I had used Chenail this year and last for my irrigation system, as well as for lawn care treatments. I had an appointment on 10/15/15 for them to come out and winterize my sprinkler system. As has always been the case, I left my basement back door unlocked for them to get access if they needed to, although I had already turned off the water supply in the house so this could have been done without entry except possibly the backflow. When I got home, there was no paperwork or any notification that they had performed the contracted service. I called them today to confirm they had done the service and was told that they did not as the service person had claimed my back door was locked. When I explained this definitely was not the case as I had specifically unlocked it that morning and perhaps he had gone to the wrong door. I then asked why they would not have called my cell phone right then if they had had any issue and also why would they have not called to reschedule. The woman on the line asked me to hold on and a man got on the phone said his name was Dave and asked if he could help me. I was caught off guard and asked why he had pickled up the phone and he said because I had asked questions the woman couldn't answer. I explained my concern that they had not performed the winterization, especially given that we had freezing temperatures over the weekend and I never would have known if I had not taken the time to call them as I never heard from them. He said that the door was locked and I explained that was not the case at all, and if that were the case why wouldn't they have called to question why the door was locked or to reschedule. He said they "probably" would have called sometime this week. I told him that I was concerned if the weather had damaged any of my pipes and if so, I would be going back to him for resolution. That's when he lost it. Started making claims again that the door was locked (which it wasn't) and I asked him how he could know that if he wasn't there and perhaps his service guy was mistaken (I happen to believe he never showed up, but they won't admit it) and started yelling at me, said how he didn't want my business, "Have a nice day" and hung up. Now how's that for customer service??? I called back and reached the woman and asked her who it was that she had given the phone to and she told me it was the owner!! When I heard that I immediately determined that I had no interest in doing business with a company whose owner would be so rude as to actually hang up on someone because he was told his employee was not giving him factual information. I then asked her if there were any treatments left on my lawn service contract (I actually was already planning to replace them next year because my lawn has never looked so bad) since I had no desire for their company to ever be on my property again and she told me there was one treatment left. I asked her to have it canceled and have my money refunded and she told me I would have to speak with Dave again. I told her I had no desire to speak to him based on how rude he was and he had hung up on me but she told me I had to speak to he was the only one who could address my cancellation of their business and get me my refund. Reluctantly I said OK and as soon as he got on the phone he started up again. Said I had threatened him with a law suit. When I tried to correct him to say that I had said that I would be coming back to him if the pipes had cracked due to their not performing the service on last Thursday as contracted, he would not even let me finish a sentence and continued to spout venom and hung up on me again. Given the rudeness and complete and utter non-professionalism with which this guy handled this situation, I thought it important to let the public know what kind of company they would be dealing with if they were thinking of doing business with Chenail irrigation or Chenail lawn service. Normally I would not take the time, but this was too rude and too disrespectful not to put the word out. I would not be surprised if he might try to lie and justify what he did by saying I threatened a lawsuit (have no idea where he got this from except I imagine he has probably heard from a lot of unhappy customers) but please know that that this company is one that I would run away from.
