M & J Roofing LLC

I have been given some recommendations for M & J roofing as well as positive reviews from Angie's list and they did not disappoint. Lou came out on Tuesday (10-22-2013) to inspect the roof. I knew from the original inspection when I brought the house that the roof had only a few years left before it had to be replaced, Water was also dripping inside the fireplace and the sheathing was warped around the chimney. Lou climbed up onto the roof to inspect that area and the area around the vent, which he said also showed signs of leakage. M&J's quotes were very reasonable considering the age and possible damage to the roof. Lou said that a crew could come out on Saturday (10-26-2013), which considering my past experience with other roofing companies, was very good. Jason and his crew came out on Saturday (10-26-2013) and began work immediately. After the initial roof tear - off. Jason pointed out to me the condition of the sheathing (good, overall) and the part of the sheathing they were replacing because of the warping. They also re-did the flashing around the chimney and the vent. There was no added cost to the price aside from the $60.00 for the sheathing around the chimney which Lou told me at the initial inspection. Jason and the crew were very efficient and professional the whole time the job took, approximately 7 1/2 hours and did a great job cleaning up as well. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking to repair or replace their roof.

Louie was excellent. He fixed work improperly performed by a previous non-Angie's List contractor. His was timely, courteous and accountable. Took pictures of pre and post repairs, including video. Was clear with issues and how his proposed solution would solve my issues.

Jason came and quoted the deal. He was cost effective. He was timely on scheduling the project. He was responsive to our questions. They did a great job. Neat.

i called for an appraisal the first call was answered and a time set to look at the roof. louie showed up right on time and went up on the roof for sometime and looked at everything.he wrote up an appraisal right then and went over all the details with me. i called back 3 days later to schedule the work, louie answered the call and set a date 3 weeks out. 10 days later he called and said he could come that sat., the materials were delivered fri., whole crew showed up on sat. morning. they completed the whole job that day including extra plywood replacement that was not on the origanal estimate which i wanted replaced after i saw condition of old plywood. they were there for 10 hours.the house looks great and the quality of the work was very good.

M & J ROOFING SERVICE LLC I read a review for the company, M & J Roofing Service LLC, on Angies List. It described how a customer needed to have the chimney pointed and work done on the roof. I had a problem with our chimney--it was leaning and the mortar was falling out between the bricks. I also needed to have our garage roof replaced. I called M & J Roofing Service LLC, on a Tuesday and one owner came to our house the next day, to give a written estimate on the chimney. He also noticed the leaning chimney and the mortar problem. He suggested that the old chimney top be removed and replaced. He also suggested that eighteen (18) inches below the chimney top, be removed and replaced with cement and new bricks and mortar to support the new chimney top. That Saturday the other owner came with a contract for chimney for me to sign, and I requested a written estimate for the replacement of the garage roof also. He told me that both jobs could be done on the same day. The following Wednesday, (9/18/2013), one of the owners came at 7:30 am, with a worker to unload shingles for the garage roof job and the chimney job. The mason started working on the chimney at 8:00 am; and continued (with his other workers) for a good part of the day. He put down a tarp in the driveway and onto a fence, to catch the bricks. The roofers came at 1:00 pm. and worked to remove, repair and put new shingles on the garage roof. The owners of M & J Roofing Service LLC were very professional and competent in their analysis of the chimney problem and the replacement of the garage roof. I have never seen such hard workers on both jobs (the chimney job and the garage roof replacement). The best contractors I have ever worked with!! Both job sites were cleaned up very well. The work on both jobs exceeded my expectations!! We now have the best looking chimney and garage roof; in the neighborhood. I would give M & J Roofing Service LLC--an A rating on both jobs (chimney and garage roof!). l

A crew of 5 men arrived at 7 am and finished the job in one day at 7pm. Jeff was there in the morning, around noon, and evening to check up on the progress Everyone worked hard, and they cleaned up well after they left. It's been 4 months since the roof was installed and we haven't had any leaks. The reason Jeff installed the new gutter guards is because our old guards were low-quality and were buckling under the old roof, and Jeff didn't want them to affect our new roof. We are very satisfied with the work. It also comes with a 10yr warranty. Jeff is very professional, friendly, and honest. We are happy to have met him.

The work was well done. The roof on the house was roughly 27 years old and had evidence of past leaks. It took them a day to remove the old layer from the roof and installed the snow and ice barrier, shingles, flashing and drip edges. During this time they noticed some of the bricks in the chimney were badly damaged. They showed us the damaged bricks and came back on another day to repair the chimney and to do the mesh grid for the gutters and shingles for the shed. We are happy with the quality and are quite glad that the new roof should last at 40 years at least.

I first used M & J Roofing two years ago. When I needed additional work I didn't bother to call anyone else. M & J only does roofing. They do it promptly and efficiently with a well organized crew. Service is excellent and when they are done they clean up the job site thoroughly. I heartily recommend them.

I was told, based on a from-the-ground look-over, that the roof didn't need replacement at this time. My questions were answered.

M&J Roofing is NOT just a general construction company that happens to install roofs - roofing is their business and they know their business well. M&J offers quality work with a 10-year warranty on labor - noone else that we quoted (and we quoted several other companies) stood behind their work with that kind of a warranty. From the beginning, we felt comfortable and confident. M&J's pricing was fair - not the lowest or the highest - and they installed to code with six (6) nails. We have seen and heard the work of other companies in our neighborhood and elsewhere - some used only 4 or 5 nails to save money on materials and labor. M&J's motto should be: "We do it right" because they do. M&J is a family business. We spoke with brothers Jason and Louie, both of whom were very easy to deal with and very patient with all our questions. From the quote process right through to the finished product, they and their crew were professional, responsive, accommodating and respectful. The job was completed in a timely fashion; they were careful not to disturb the plantings around our home; all the debris was cleaned up and removed. We highly recommend M&J Roofing.

They were a very experienced and professional crew. Work was done quickly and completely, including clean up. I'm glad I went with them.

I have owned quite a few homes over the years. I have been through 6 roof replacements in that time, and I can say without a doubt, this was the best experience I have had with a Roofing company. Ever. I contacted him to set up a day and time to meet and discuss the project. He was extremely accommodating in scheduling, and met me after hours with no complaints. He met me to do an initial walkthrough of my project and after about 10 minutes of talking, he immediately got a ladder out to get up on the roof and take a look. This is a really good sign, for those of you who have never had a roof done before. Many times, a roofing company will send out a sales rep or an estimator, who wont go on the roof at all. Their standard answer when asked is if they are going up is, "No, I don't need to, I can see from here." Nonsense. Louie got up there and spent a good 20 minutes up there, giving the roof a good looking over. Once he came back down, he was ready to discuss the project, and it was immediately apparent he knew exactly what he was talking about. He quickly outlined all the repairs he thought were necessary. I had come to the exact same conclusions in my own survey of the roof when I purchased the house a year ago. He made some excellent suggestions, and kept things cost efficient. His crew showed up for work on time and got the roof done in two days. They were professional and clean. Louie did the Attic Fan and Skylight Install himself, making sure that they were installed properly and had a good watertight fit. The gutters were done a few days later and was finished in half a day. He even went the extra mile and repaired some fascia boards along the soffits as they were rotting out a little. As I said, I have gone through this process quite a few times, and this was the best roofing company I have dealt with yet. I have recommended them to neighbors and friends on more than one occasion since the work was done, and I can safely recommend them to anyone looking on Angie's List.

5 minute tour of roof...have had to have others do work needed

The owner was present throughout the whole process and he was very nice. They were very responsive and efficient. They did a professional job. They were very punctual and they were in and out.

One of the Owners came out within 2 days from making the call, 8/17/2013, gave me proposal right then and there. Louie said they would be able to perform work with-in a week....to me, this was good. Came out as promised, Sunday morning, 7:30AM (these guys are dedicated), and the crew of four included Louie (Owner). Once the removal of shingles was done, they discovered additional rotten sheathing (this is a 1913 roof deck with tongue and groove boards). He recommended that the entire lower edge (4 feet) be replaced with plywood, at a modest cost increase....this is the right thing to do in my mind too. Once the roof deck was structurally sound once again, ice/water shield was put over the whole area, including dormer roof and side walls, reflashed and all. They finished the task in about 5 hours, left the site as if they had never been there, no scraps, no nails just a finished product that leaves me feeling VERY comfortable with using their services again in the event I need repairs (or a new roof) in the future. The roof that was repaired was put on during the winter of 2001, and apparently according to Louie, the previous roofer (now out of business) took some shortcuts. I am satisfied that M&J Roofing stands behind their work.

Very,very happy with M & J Roofing. Louie came to do our estimate and we found him to be very knowledgable and just the nicest guy ever. Their estimate was right in line with the other 2 we got, but we chose them because of all the great reviews and how much we liked Lou. He made great suggestions for the roof and, when I mentioned that this house (we had just bought it) is unbearably hot, he suggested that they install a fan in the attic. They came on a Saturday and brought their entire crew, which must have been at least 10 guys. They worked like crazy from 7am till 7pm and got the entire roof done in one day and it looks fabulous. They did not cut any corners. My husband is incredibly picky, hardly ever happy with any contractors and is very, very happy with them. They left the area as neat as a pin, no nails anywhere, unlike the job we had done 3 years ago on our last house, (a different company) when I was picking nails out of the flower beds for 2 years. The only reason I gave them a B on price instead of an A is that once the old roof was ripped off, they thought that some of the plywood underneath should be replaced. My husband said ok, but we did not realize how many sheets that would be. It ended up being 32 sheets of plywood, and the price was $1900 more than the original estimate. Because of that, Lou did not charge us for the attic fan, which was very nice. The attic fan has made a big difference in the temperature of the house and I am grateful to Lou for suggesting it. Jason, Lou's brother, was at our all day too, overseeing the job, and he is also a wonderful guy. Lastly, when you call them during the day, as I have done a couple times to arrange dates, etc, they either answer their phones or call you back right away, which I really appreciate.

Sweet. No fuss no muss. I had to call a few times to nail them down for a specific date of project, they said this was because my job was so small & they'd have to 'fit me in'.

I called M & J on Tuesday the 20th to get an estimate of how much it would cost me to replace my old roof. The person on the phone sounded very confident and I gave him the address to go and conduct the estimate. Met with Jason from M & J after work, and he provided me with all the details of my existing roof and the work to be performed. I liked the pricing and the top quality materials to be used, and agree to hire them to do the job. Two days later, I came back from work and found this beautiful roof installed. Went around the house to inspect everything and it look just perfect all around. I highly recommend their services. A+++

I heard about M & J Roofing from friends who had searched Angies list and made the decision to go with M & J Roofing. They liked them so much that I decided to use them as well. I reached out to Jason and he came out to take a look at my roof. Upon inspection, Jason informed me that this should be handled through an insurance claim, due to wind and hail damage. When I had difficulty with my insurance company on my claim, Jason told me he would take it from here. In other words, he interceded for me on my behalf. I remember asking him..."are you some kind of an angel?". I have never had a vendor take on a dispute for me. Long story short, my claim was approved. The M & J team came out and completed the job in 2 days. I couldn't believe it! You would never know they were here as not a nail was left or a piece of shingle. They did a fantastic job and I would recommend them to anyone who is in need of a roof. Believe me, it will be one of the best decisions you could make! Fast turnaround time with a clear and detailed estimate. Insightful and creative regarding some challenging areas of the roof around chimney and skylight. Performed the work on time and kept the work site very clean during and after. Good warrenty on material and workmanship. Very good experience with this contractor.

Dealing with Jason and his team was a very pleasant experience. Jay, the chimney mason, was more like an artist with the brickwork. He took great pride in his work and it showed. He and his brother and his son were very professional and personable. After taking down my old chimney he and his team did a great job removing the brick and cleaning up the area. Following the chimney work, Jason brought in his roofing team. They began work at 7:30 AM removing two layers of shingles and under layer down to the plywood. They took great care to protect the plants and flowers around my house. The roofing team worked well together and by 5:30 PM the same day my new roof was installed and the team policed the area with a magnetic tool to pick up any stray nails. Working with Jason and his excellent team felt like working with family. . . . .the only difference was I had to pay them. . . . . . but it was well worth it. I would recommend M&J Roofing to anyone. . . .and in fact I already have!

OVERALL: Very satisfied with work performed. M&J Roofing did an excellent job from start to finish - I would definitely use them again. QUOTING / RESPONSIVENESS/PRICE: Jason showed up on time and offered excellent professional advice. I had many questions, and he provided experienced professional recommendations from among the options I was considering. (What kind of skylights are best? What is the best deck protection to use underneath the shingles?, etc.) Two other roofers had suggested covering the entire roof with ice & water barrier underneath the shingles due to the shallow pitch and based on leak problems that I have had with the old roof. Jason advised that it is important for the plywood decking to be able to breathe, and gave me a sample of GAF deck armor, which he suggested is an excellent alternative that is waterproof yet allows vapor to escape to prevent mold build up in the attic. It is a premium product that performs better than traditional roof felt. (Roof felt breathes, but is not waterproof.) He recommended ice & water barrier in the valleys, and for the first six feet up from the overhang. Although I had not requested a quote for the replacement of the upper chimney, Jason noticed it needed work while he was up on the roof and provided me an unsolicited quote to replace it from the roof line up. He wasn't pushy, he simply advised me to take a look at it myself as there were problems with it. (Bricks starting to spall / flake, and a few bad cracks and splits running vertically through the mortar.) He was right that it needed attention, as it was beyond what tuck pointing could address due to the splits and the spalling of some of the bricks. His quote for the chimney work was a pleasant surprise - the cost was very affordable. Finally, I was interested in using the "Landmark Certainteed" architectural shingles instead of the GAF Timberline brand that all of the roofers were quoting, including M&J. (This product was a top performer and "best buy" in a major consumer magazine.) Jason took the time to obtain samples and made a second trip to my home to review them with me and provide an updated quote. M&J's quote for the whole job wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive. It was fair when compared to the three other roofers quotes I received. THE WORK - QUALITY/PUNCTUALITY/PROFESSIONALISM: They scheduled the work with me about two weeks ahead of the start of the job, and showed up on time each day to perform the work. They covered the bushes and flower beds that are around the house to keep them free of falling nails and debris during the stripping process. The five man crew did an excellent job stripping the roof, replacing a few areas of damaged plywood decking, and carefully installing the new roofing materials. They were among the hardest-working folks I've met, and very professional. They also did an excellent job matching the color of brick on the chimney and installing the replacement skylights. The work done was top notch - and I was especially impressed with the attention to detail on the cleanup. The areas around my house are uneven and have many plants, bushes, stepping stone walkways, etc. that made cleanup a real chore, as it was not a simple matter of going around to pick up nails with a rolling magnet. The crew took the time to rake everything up carefully and thoroughly. I'm pretty picky, and I was impressed.

I am very glad I joined Angieslist ! GREAT EXPERINCE!!! I called M&J roofing 7.10.13 and they came out the same day. The owner Lou went on the roof found some problems and offered me a few different solutions to fix my leak.. He was very professional and listened to all my concerns . Based on Angieslist and my own personal experience, I'll be giving M&J a call when I repair the roof!!!!!

They were suppose to come a certain day which they never did. They just came me a price with out even seen the place. Then, the person who called me after 2 or 4 months calls me back saying hopefully we can work together in the future. If anyone call give us good reviews.
