Very disappointing. Job not to our expectations paid them in full with the understanding they would come back to right the concerns. John came out and agreed to come back. Scheduled a date which was cancelled on his end and which was supposed to be rescheduled. It never materialized despite our efforts to do so. Was finally told that he would not be coming back. Again, we made the final payment in good faith , believing in Johns integrity.

This Wallingford Tree Service accessed my property to reach a neighbor's Tree without my permission back in January. I called and sent pics of the damage the trucks caused to my lawn and sidewalk to Owner-John came out back then, saw him on my Ring doorbell, never came back or called. Called him yesterday (May) and he turns up hostile, refusing to help, claiming my neighbor says I am intimidating and the problem. This is not how you treat people where you are in the WRONG! Terrible service. DO NOT SUPPORT People who treat you like you are nothing and less then a human when you have done nothing wrong.

I feel compelled to write this lengthy and frank review because I had written absolutely glowing reviews of Wallingford Tree in the past and want to share my recent experiences with anyone relying on my former (very positive) reviews of this company. I have hired Wallingford Tree (WT) three times in the past: I have a house directly next door to my parents' house and I hired them for one or both houses about three times in the past years since 2014. They *were* stellar and I recommended them highly: here on Angie's List, on Google, and even in written form as a letter sent to WT themselves to thank them for a great job. I have no explanation for the change in the focus and priorities of WT, but the company is simply no longer customer oriented. I phoned the company in Sept 2019 requesting an estimate for several trees, some required trimming, others were dead and needed to be removed. I got no reply; in the past someone (usually Jennnifer) would call to schedule an appointment. I had John Cervero's email address and also the general email address of the company (both used to be posted on the WT website...I'm not sure if both still are) so I emailed him. John replied promptly and we set up an appointment for Mon. Sept. 30, 2019 for an estimate. As was customary to my prior experiences with WT, I received an estimate/proposal via email which I signed and emailed back and a few days later I received a hard copy in snail mail and I signed it and mailed it back. I emailed John to tell him I returned the proposal and asked if WT would phone to follow up with an appointment. Then....NOTHING. No contact at all from WT. I am not exaggerating when I say that I emailed (both addresses---John's and the general email), completed the "contact" form on the WT website, and phoned the company at least eight times trying to schedule an appointment to have the work done. I was clear in my communication that I was sensitive to any other customers with storm damage; I wasn't expecting an immediate appointment but I needed a Friday appointment and wanted to book one before winter. Finally I contacted WT through Angie's List in exasperation. I received an email from John saying that they'd like to come Sat 11/23/19 at 8:00 am. I emailed back that the date and time was fine. I cleared yard furniture away and moved cars, etc. so that the team could have full access to the area. Sat 11/23/19: no one came. I emailed John to see what was happening, then phoned the office. The office person was curt and simply said she'd contact the owner and the tech would call in about 15 minutes with an ETA. Nothing. I phoned again and the person dutifully said she'd forward my message again and I, in frustration, blurted out "does no one there ever apologize?" She then informed me that she was the answering service but that the owner *was* receiving my messages. I emailed John again and informed him that he was ignornig my messages and that the team still wasn't there (by now it was about 9:30 am. In total, I phoned at 8:45 am, 9:30 am, and finally at 10:30 am I phoned the office and cancelled the "8:00 am appointment" and told them I was not ever rescheduling with WT. During this time period, I sent multiple emails to both WT email addresses and contacted John via Angie's List. About 90 seconds after I hung up the phone from cancelling, owner John Cervero FINALLY replied to my email message. It was insulting: a lame excuse saying he was out of state and "couldn't phone". He said the "truck broke down" on the way to my house and he wasn't sure why his brother (Justin) didn't phone me. John said he "sent me a couple of texts". But I never gave him a cell number for text messages! I replied to him with one final, disgusted email noting that my customer loyalty had been rewarded with an insulting apathetic waste of my time....all from the OWNER of the company. One note: throughout this ordeal the ONLY person EVER to apologize for my hassle was Annetta who worked for the answering service (*not* the woman I spoke with on 11/23) at 1:00 pm on 10/25/19. She sympathized with my repeated attempts to get a reply and said she couldn't understand why it was so difficult to simply schedule an appointment. Thank you for that, Annetta. I'm not sure what has happened at WT, but the company is no longer customer oriented and my loyalty to them was clearly misplaced. There are too many competent tree companies out there. Please, everyone, save yourself the aggravation and go elsewhere. Customer service and retention are no longer among Wallingford Tree's priorities.

Horrible! These people should not be in business. With the recent storm and a tree through my house I was told before 6am they would remove the tree that day. They were at the house @10am and said they were right around the corner. At 2;45 I was told they were stuck on a closed road. I told them repeatedly through the day I could get a crane if they could not make it that day so the roof could be covered before the nights rain. I was told at 4;45 they were definitely still coming that day. At 6;30pm they left a message with my daughter saying they would not make it. There are excessive damages because of this and I will be suing them. When this review is scrubbed like the others, I will repost everywhere until they are out of business. In business for @20 years and 5 reviews should say it all. You people really suck and will pay for your incompetence and lack of any integrity. Took my claim number and ran. 89 mariot circle Wallingford CT. 5\21\18 Mike Tolokan

I scheduled the estimate via Angie's List with John and he was a breath of fresh air. I had gotten a few estimates for *removal* of a 90ft oak tree in a house I'd just purchased because I was told it was sick (it also has a lean to it). John assured me the tree was extremely healthy and there was no need to remove it. I really don't like killing such old and majestic trees so that was a relief. I had cut some smaller sumacs and underbrush like wild rosebushes and thorn locust and there were large piles in the yard. John said he could chip all of it and leave me the chips to use for mulch where I'd just cleared. He also inspected a 55 year old horse chestnut tree, ensuring it too was healthy and just needed a little pruning. We set up the appointment and the team arrived on Fri 9/18 and consisted of five people: Justin (John's brother), Pierre, Roberto, and two others whose names I'm sorry I did not get. Each knew his respective job and they worked together seamlessly. It was truly amazing to watch them drop the very tall sumac trees with nearly surgical precision. They completed an astounding amount of work in just 3.5 hours on a very hot day. I later learned that this was their third job of the day! Amazing.
Description of Work: Extensively pruned 90 ft oak tree and cabled it, pruned horse chestnut tree, removed small yew, cut 9 fair sized (but tall) sumacs and chipped everything plus some brush and trees I had cut.

I called the office on Friday June 5 and made an appointment for Monday morning at 10:30. John arrived on time and gave me an estimate of $475.00 to remove the tree and $230.00 to remove the stump. I had gotten 4 other estimates and this was the lowest. I did not hire based on that alone. We had Wallingford Tree do some work for us years ago and it was excellent. I also needed the tree removed before June 22 when I have a gutter installation scheduled. I contacted John via an Angie's List message on Tuesday and he responded promptly. I told him we would like him to do the job. He had an opening on June 16 and said if anything became available before that he would let us know. I received an email on Wednesday saying they had a crew that could come out around 11:00ish. I actually did not see the email until around noon and responded that it would be fine. The crew showed up and got right to work. No wasted time. They removed the tree, the stump and roots and cleaned the area up beautifully.
Description of Work: Removed 1 Norway Spruce that I estimate was about 40-50 feet tall. Removed the stump and surface roots which included grinding the stump and all of the surface roots. Removed all wood, chipped all brush and did total cleanup.

Wallingford Tree Service did a great job from start to finish. I had a large dying tree...essentially 3 trees growing out of one incredibly large stump, roughly 5-8 ft in diameter. The team was professional and kind and completely the work in an efficient manner. I will call them back in the future if I have another job to complete

Perfect! They were on time (actually early) so professional and polite. We have 4 very tall pear trees and 3 plums and a very large Japanese Maple....after every couple of cuts we noticed they would get down and look at the tree before making the next cut. We could not be more pleased, our trees look better than they ever did. We have already recommended them to several neighbors who noticed what beautiful work they did. They took their time, didn't rush and cleaned everything up before they left.

We had a very positive experience, right from my initial call to the end of the process. Customer service was polite and prompt. The estimate was performed by the owner within a day of my initial call. He was professional and knowledgeable. The estimate arrived by email that very afternoon and was professional, detailed, and complete. The work was scheduled within a few days. The workers were prompt, courteous and professional. The trees, stumps, and all debris were removed within one working day. The workers cleaned up so completely that the yard was cleaner when they left than when they arrived! The price was reasonable for the quality and rapidity of the job accomplished. We would definitely use Wallingford Tree Service again and would recommend them to others.

We wanted to open up our yard and had marked off a number of trees we wanted removed—John came out and assessed the property/work and had very good insight and suggestions. His proposal price fell in the middle of the 4 tree companies from which we received quotes, and we felt that he understood our goal best. His crew showed up on time and spent two entire days taking down the trees, pruning the remaining trees, chipping and removing the wood. They did a beautiful job and cleaned up the property nicely—I couldn't be happier. The only thing I wished they had done was to relocate the logs reserved for firewood out of the wooded area (they were cut into 20 inch sections, but still heavy for me).

John, the owner, was very easy to work with. He came out promptly to see the work that needed doing, and the estimate he gave me was very clear, detailed and professionally done. There were no surprises when the final bill came, and for the amount of work he did, I considered it a real bargain. His bid was lower than anyone else's, but the quality of the work was very good. His crew showed up on schedule and worked very well together. They were very helpful and courteous and, without being asked, chipped up some brush that I had already cut down myself. I was very pleased with the results of their work and would recommend them to my friends.
Description of Work: They cut down a large birch tree [26" in diameter] and ground the stump. They removed pachysandra from the area, spread top soil, and seeded the area. They also cut down 6 small trees and trimmed a large maple, 5 hemlocks and 4 white pines, as well as trimming 9 hemlock stumps. They chipped all the wood from the above cutting/trimmings.

I had used Wallingford Tree several times and was pleased with their professionalism and punctuality, and they trimmed and removed trees exactly as requested. Pleased with this work.
Description of Work: The work required climbing an old tree, removing a huuuuge branch which was storm-damaged and hanging over my neighbor's car. At my request, they did a bit more trimming while in the tree.I felt this job was a bit pricey, but they did take extreme care not to damage the neighbor's car.

I like working with these folks and have recommended them to friends who were also satisfied with their work. They quote accurately. Although it has seemed high at times, the amount of effort to do the work does justify the price. They know their business. I've had great luck with their chemical treatments, also. Hemlocks have been saved, and the 2 other trees which they treat look very, very healthy. Try them !
Description of Work: I've been using this company for 6-7 years. They saved my hemlock trees. They've cut 3 huge trees for me, trimmed a lot, and cut down a huge branch after storm Irene dangled the branch over my neighbor's car. Response from Wallingford Tree Service Inc
I apologize to the member if he thinks Wallingford Tree Service is not professional. The tree he requested us to look at was in the middle of his deck and is a very large tree to be removed, hence the high price. According to his comments we were cordial and quick with a response. We feel this grade for professionalism is an unfair grade. He did not allow us to show him the true professionalism of a service company. He chose not to go ahead with our company. We hope that his project for the tree removal went smoothly and hope he will allow us to show him in the future how professional Wallingford Tree Service can be.

It went fine. They had a cancellation and left me a message late in the day that they would be there first thing in the morning-fortunately this was ok, as I didn't get the message until after hours. But they were very prompt, and did a good job of cleaning everything up. A couple of our neighbors have also used Wallingford Tree Service.
Description of Work: They removed a tree in our backyard that was growing too large, the roots were destroying the driveway and the garage floor. It was a trickier job b/c our driveway opening is too narrow to get a truck through. My kids and the neighbors had fun watching the guy scale the tree and cut it down limb by limb.
