Jerry was recommended by friends and neighbors. We decided to use him after we contacted four other contractors. He was the most responsive, and provided a detailed estimate. He was not the low cost provider, but we were comfortable with his ideas. He is reserved, conservative, and thorough. It went great. However, he had to educate us as we went along. We chose to purchase all the hardware, accessories, cabinetry, fixtures, appliances and miscellaneous. He advised our purchasing process and decision. On more than one occasion we made some interesting choices and he bailed us out. Craftman: This is how I would describe him. He pays attention to detail. When he finished, we took a look at what was accomplished and said; "Wow!" It was that good. It he wasn't satisfied with his work, he would tell us and redo. This did not impact the estimate. He just seems to feel that quality is more important than speed. Also, on more that one occasion Jerry requested permission to work on Saturdays to finish on time. Honest: If he found an issue or knew we were headed into problems, he told us and we discussed our options. And, it wasn't like watching Love It or List It. He kept everything on track, on time, and on budget. Also, we were very comfortable leaving the house open, allowing him full access while we worked. Do It Right: Jerry started with a first floor half bath and laundry area. We wanted to remove the old 80's wallpaper, mini-tiles, commode and vanity. He ran into problems on day one. The people who built the house had wallpapered directly onto unpainted or untreated wallboard. The only way to remove the wallpaper was to remove the old walls. He did it. Then he put in new wallboard, taped it, and finished it...all by himself. There was no assistant, no temp, no friend of a neighbor. He did everything. And, he did it well. This is how everything went. As an example, after he pulled all the floor tile in the first floor bathroom, he showed us that there were some issues around the old commode. The plywood needed to be replaced. Then he replaced entire floor, because it "is the best thing to do." We paid for the additional materials. That was it. Problem Solver: We had some issues in the kitchen remodeling that he faced head on. We had just installed granite counter-tops and a big gas cook-top. Now we wanted an gas range. While this may not seem insurmountable, there were obstacles caused by size differences, a ceramic back-splash, power, oak cabinets, and recently installed oak flooring. And, these were the "easy" issues. Jerry responded with results beyond our wildest imaginings. It included the above, plus he figured out a way to increase our storage space in the process. Additionally, we needed a couple of "non-contracted" work done. He installed attic access stairs, a water filtering system, and some storage drawers that are like a piece of artwork. All these adders were done in a timely fashion and were very reasonable. Finally, when he was done we felt like we lost an old friend. We understood that he was paid for his services, but we actually wondered if there wasn't something else that needed to be done. We trust him. We recommend him. We will contact him in the future if or when we need work to be done.
Description of Work: Remodeling of two baths and retrofitting of kitchen to new appliances and cabinet.
