+ -1 moreThe septic system, which I was told by the builder would last 30-45 years, failed in spring 2006. I discovered that the septic system had been partially installed over a bury hole (which is not in compliance with code). I can't say with 100% certainty the system failed solely due to bury hole, but the part of the system that failed was directly above the bury hole. I had to hire private contractors to dig up the original system reinstall a new one. They had to excavate the tree trunks, rocks and debris buried. This cost more than $20,000. When I contacted Stephen D. Williams & Co. to discuss this, he accused me of sabotaging my own septic system and said possibly a previous owner had sabotaged the system (he didn't remember that I am the original owner). He refused to accept any responsibility. While the company has a decent reputation as a builder and there are many good things about my house, he failed miserably in this instance to stand behind his work.
Description of Work: I bought a custom Stephen D. Williams home in February 2001. I was the first and have been the only owner of the home.
