Description of Work: I began looking into solar in spring, 2013 and chose to go with RGS based on quality of their system. I met with their representative and signed a contract and was told they could start in June, '13. After numerous phone calls and delays - and a revision of the cost upward - the actual installation was done at the end of January, 2014, inspected Feb 4th, and finally turned on March 14th, 2014. The installation crew was excellent; professional, knowledgeable and punctual; I'm ver happy with the equipment and have not had to pay for electricity since the system finally went online. However, the delays, misinformation, etc by the organization meant I lost all those months of free solar electric power, and experienced a lot of frustration with the process. |

Description of Work: They installed a 700KW solar panel plant on my southern roof, in addition to the panels they installed the necessary electrical to connect to my home's electrical. They were fast, neat and very professional.

Description of Work: I had a meeting and discussed solar panels for my home. They were professional and punctual. They even exchanged emails with the architect about different ways to approach my re-model. In the end I decided against solar panels. If I had gone forward with the project I would have used them.

Description of Work: They installed solar panels. The good news is the system works, the bad news is it took a year to get it done. The field personnel Christine Malone and Cameron Sungail were terrific, unfortunately they are no longer with the company. The project management was weak to say the least. The system was installed and passed local inspection on 12/29/2013. I got the okay to turn on the system 4/19/2014, four months later. I chose the 20 yr. prepaid electric system. RGS is responsible for the equipment for that period of time. If any problems arise in the future I will update these comments.

The salesman did not show for our first appointment. He told me he thought it was for the next week. But he was able to come out to my house the next day. His proposal, which he emailed to me a few days later, was for a smaller system than the others I received, yet its estimated electricity production was greater than the others. I could not reconcile his proposed system's productivity to PV Watts, an Internet-based calculator provided by the National Renewable Energy Labs. The company I eventually chose to install my system provided a PV Watts calculation with their proposal. Even though I had asked for an animal guard around the solar array, he did not include one in his proposal. I feel as though Real Goods Solar seeks to be the low bidder.
Description of Work: The salesman came to my home so he could prepare a proposal for a photovotaic system. He surveyed the house, presented some options, and then left to prepare a proposal. He emailed the proposal a few days later.

This company has expanded impressively. It also advertises on PBS in support of programs like the News Hour with Jim Lehrer. Clearly they know their target market!
Description of Work: I have also earlier submitted a report for this company under their former name -- Renewable Power Systems. It has since been merged into a much larger energy installation company, and has changed its name to Alteris. I can affirm the quality of its work under either its new or its old name. It continues to maintain contact with us to assure that the system is working well.
