Mazur Mechanical

Description of Work: Mazur Mechanical LLC was hired to install a solar thermal system at our residence. Contract was signed around March 2013. | |1) Mazur did not want to deliver the hot water tank he agreed to by contract, but wanted to substitute with what I considered an inferior tank. I had to order the tank myself. |2) Mazur was not familiar with the local building regulations, and took out a simple plumbing permit, rather than the building permit he should have. He didn't even have the license to take out the required building permit, so I eventually ended up taking out and paying for the required permit. |3) Mazur procrastinated finishing up the project. Then he wanted to get paid essentially in full before even having taken out the building permit, and without inspection completed. Nest, it turned out the expansion tank was designed too small, and solar fluid came out of the system when overheating. All in all it dragged on until November 2nd(!!) until the system was sort of working and I finally paid of the rest of the contract. |4) On Jan 1st 2014 I woke up at 2:15am because the solar pump ran dry and made a terrible noise. One of the collectors had frozen up because there was not enough antifreeze in the solar fluid. To save the other collectors from freezing, I went on the roof to cut out the frozen collector, refilled solar fluid, and switched on the pump to prevent the other collectors from getting damaged as well. Mazur did come out eventually to replace the damaged collector (he gave 1yr warranty). |5) Even while still under "warranty" I decided that I no longer wanted Mazur to come near my property, and fixed the following design flaws myself, in long hours of work, and under significant expenses: | |- the expansion tanks where plumbed in series rather than in parallel, and one of them had no bladder. This is a totally screwed up design that causes air to come into the solar loop, and fluid to be expelled when overheating. I changed it to the standard design of having two parallel tanks with bladder. |- the flow meter started to leak, I removed it (not needed after startup) |- the space heating was using the return flow from the radiant baseboard, which usually came back *hotter* than the temperature of the solar tank, so virtually no space heating happened. I changed it to use the circulation from the floor heating. |- the rubber gaskets where the pipes penetrate the roof started to leak, so I had water coming into my attic. I designed a cover from aluminum flashing. |

Description of Work: They didn't even get back to me after I called for service.

Description of Work: They installed a solar hot water panel on the roof. They also installed a tank less hot water booster which was propane.
