The technician was helpful, but ultimately could not make any of the repairs during the visit. He said that the office would call us with an estimate for repair - as he explained that our best approach would be to just buy new appliances. The communication and customer service "from the office" was poor. We were told that both the service manager and the owner would call us back to confirm cost of the part that needed to be ordered. Neither called back. When we finally reached someone - we were told that "we were on the list", but that the company was closing for a week for vacation.
Description of Work: We called the provider to repair dishwasher and dryer. Provider indicated that we should replace the dishwasher. Provider said dryer could be repaired, but that we should consider a new dryer.

We?ve purchased 4 major appliances from Associated Appliance & Service on Hope Street since 2007. Their prices weren?t always the best, but we liked the idea of supporting a local business and at the time thought their customer service was very good. Unfortunately, based on our most recent experience, their service has slipped badly. In hindsight, I should have insisted on a service call. Installing the gasket may be easy, but if some misalignment of the door or flipper is causing the shredding, how would I have fixed that? (So Associated saves time and money by not sending a service man, but in a couple of months I probably end up with another shredded gasket.) Also, they would never have lost track of a service call, as they did with the order. In the meantime, the warranty has expired, so now I?ll have to pay for any repairs myself. In summary: 1) Associated?s advice on how to handle the repair was self-serving and not in my best interest. 2) Associated never ordered the gasket. 3) The fridge was still under warranty when I reported the problem, but Associated failed to act during the warranty period, meaning I?m stuck with the cost of repairs. 4) And now they?re not returning my calls. The brands this company carries are available from many other dealers in this area. The only thing Associated has going for it is that it services what it sells. Except when it doesn?t. Making a major purchase from a company where you can?t reach a responsible person when something goes wrong is asking for trouble. I would not recommend Associated Appliance & Service to anybody.
Description of Work: On 02/18/2012 we bought an Electrolux French door refrigerator from Associated Appliance & Service. Less than a year later, the left door gasket had shredded where it hits the top of the flipper sealing the gap between the two doors. The fridge was still under warranty when I called Associated on 02/06/2013. The woman I spoke to suggested I could skip the service call and install a new gasket myself, since it was a simple job. I agreed to that and she said they’d order the part and call me when it came in. The fridge was still usable, I was confident they were working on the order, and suddenly it was two months later and I realized I’d never heard back about the part. When I called 04/05/2013, the woman who answered said the parts guy was on another line and put me on hold. After a while she came back, saying the parts guy was still not available and could she have my number so he could call me back. I gave her the number. He didn’t call. I called again the next day and explained myself to a male voice which took my number for Dave, who, I was assured, would call back that afternoon or early Monday. He never called back. I finally took the hint. Nobody was going to call me back.

Response from ASSOCIATED APPLIANCE & SVC
On June 13th we repaired the member's Whirlpool dryer, the bill with parts, labor, and tax was $158.11 including a 15% discount for being a regular customer. On July 24th we went out for a DIFFERENT PROBLEM. This time the main control board was bad, the part alone was $325.00. Since we were just there a month before, FOR A DIFFERENT PROBLEM, we adjusted the member's bill, and only charged him our wholesale cost for the part, and NOTHING FOR OUR LABOR TIME. I don't understand why this customer would give us an F rating?

It was great. The same gentleman who fixed my oven 2 years ago was the one who came this time. I was actually late arriving home to let him in but he was kind enough to wait. He found the problem and fixed it. He gave me different options because the dryer is old but didn't push buying a new one on me. He told me it wasn't dangerous which I appreciated. I would not hesitate to call them in the future if I should need them.
Description of Work: They did a minor dryer repair.
