Miller Brothers Moving & Storage

I elected to do the packing rather than pay them an approximately additional $3,000 to do the packing. They provided me with boxes, although most of the boxes were used and many were in fair to poor shape. I appreciated being able to recycle boxes, but would have appreciated cleaner more intact boxes. The original estimate increased by 2% overall when I confirmed my moving date because they explained this was their busiest season. I would have appreciated knowing the possibility of a 2% increase at the time of the estimate so that I could have fairly compared their estimate with the two other estimates I received. Instead they surprised me with it when I went to sign the moving contract. The day of the move was unfortunately hot and muggy, something they obviously had not control over. They sent 8 movers to my house to load our belongings; the problem was there was little overall coordination by the "moving coordinator" and as a result they lost the hardware to one queen sized bed set, lost the hardware to two large bookcases and lost the hardware to one futon frame and dining room table. They also insisted on disassembling some items but not others in an apparently arbitrary manner. When I specifically asked them not to take apart my family's heirloom round oak dining table, they did it anyway much to my dismay. I observed many of the loaders casually treating our belongings roughly, showing little apparent concern about not breaking them. The truck arrived at our Arizona address 4 days later then expected. It apparently sat in the hot (100 degrees plus) sun for several days awaiting an unloading crew. The unloading crew consisted of 3 people who were not prepared to unload 14,000 pounds in the Arizona heat. When they unloaded our furniture they broke apart one bedroom dresser because they failed to take the drawers out before carrying it up the stairs. Another coffee table arrived broken and as mentioned lost hardware for various other items. I paid approximately an additional $640 for insurance with a $500 deductible. The furniture repair person finally arrived yesterday (almost one week after the unload) and informed us that the cost of repair would about equal the deductible. The Ct company showed little concern for the problems they caused. The Arizona unloaders damaged our walls moving in the furniture. I called the company and they promised to send a claim form but still have not -- they are Horizon Moving, another United affiliate in Tucson Arizona.
