Instead of replacing faucets he and I decided that our existing faucets were in very good shape and could be repaired. Once he was nearly complete repairing one faucet he said "I don't have the patience for "this". He announced that he would get the job up to the point that there was nothing leaking and then "we could find someone else to do whatever was needed". He stormed out of the house with me following trying to give him cash for what he had done. He wouldn't take any money, was quite agitated and told me that he was too old for "this". My wife and I were perplexed and quite upset for days.

Excellent responses, repaired valve the next day. Polite, tidy work, reasonable cost. Followed up the day after tonsure all was well. Provided as referral other work.

Carl completed the work promptly and efficiently, finding an unsightly way to bring the hose through the basement and under our deck. He also made a trip to Home Depot to acquire a panel to hide the unsightly hole in the garage wall from the improper vent . In addition, he noticed a faint sound in our laundry room and discovered that it was a broken fan that would have properly circulated heat had it been working. (We had been wondering why our laundry room was so cold). Carl got the fan running at no additional charge. Lastly, he gave me great suggestions as to proper venting throughout my home and quotes on other projects that I am contemplating. Carl did a fantastic job, and will be my plumber for all future projects. I have already referred him to a friend.

I called Carl around 10am to set up an appointmoint and, to my surprise, he was able to come out the same day (within a few hours actually). After cutting a small hole in the ceiling and taking the time to checkout both upstairs bath rooms, Carl determined the problem wasn't in the plumbing but instead with outside water coming in from my roof and following a pipe to a point where it dripped above my ceiling. Carl recommended I contact a roofer and would take no money for his time. He was here for a good hour or more investigating the problem. He felt bad about some of the plaster pieces getting on our floor and, against our protests, proceeded to clean it up. Carl was very courteous and professional. We will definitely call him for any future plumbing problems.

I called Carl because my appliance repair guy had left me with a leak. I called Carl at 8:00am and he was able to squeeze me in at 11:00. Showed up right on time, diagnosed the problem without even touching the faucet. Fixed that in a jiffy, then took care of another small leak in my outside faucet shutoff valve. I also had him install a new kitchen faucet we'd bought (because we knew he was coming anyway.) Bottom line, Carl is everything you want in a plumber-Competent-Honest-Prompt-Reasonable Cost. I highly recommend Carlyn Mechanical to everyone.

At first I was really happy with Carl. He was prompt, professional, and responsive. We just moved in and had a toilet that kept clogging. He looked at it and basically said "it's an old toilet of a not so great brand, it's going to keep clogging" (it was a 1995 Kohler). He said he had a top of the line toilet that would never clog that he could replace it with. This seemed logical. We're weren't crazy about spending 700 dollars, but we absolutely got the impression it needed to be done. He kept telling us how great this toilet was - I actually distinctly remember him saying after it was installed "usually I throw a whole wad of toilet paper in there and flush to show my customers how good it is, but I don't want to do that here because you're on septic". I guess there was a reason that stood out to me. Apparently, I'm supposed to know that there are OTHER places a toilet can get clogged besides the toilet? I'm pretty sure I didn't go to plumbing school. The new one keeps clogging and a month later I can't get it unclogged again. I call Carl. He immediately says "I don't snake the pipes, you have to call this guy" (there's a difference between the toilet and the pipes?). I said I wasn't real happy with having shelled out 700 bucks for a new toilet. Now, granted, that's a no win statement. I mean, what was he supposed to say? He went with "well, you made the choice to put in a new toilet". Really? Like there were many options with a clogged toilet and the plumber standing there with a new one saying "it's gonna keep clogging"? His response was that he had said "the clog MAY BE in the toilet" (as opposed to somewhere else, I guess). But he certainly didn't tell me or even imply that there were other places the clog could be. And don't tell me I should be informed about the workings of my toilet. You own a brain and I don't expect you to know the difference between your thalamus and hypothalamus. That's my job to explain if there's a problem. That's the whole point of specializing. So what was I expecting when I told him I was upset? Perhaps an apology? People screw up. I get it. When I screw up, I admit it. Perhaps a partial refund or an offer to pay some or part of the cost to snake the pipes? Maybe an offer of a certain amount of future services? Or at the very least an offer to arrange for someone to come and look at the pipes so I'm not chasing someone down? You gave me bad advice, fine. Own up to it.

Carl was on time and very responsive to phone calls. He made good suggestions throughout our meeting but was still very willing to do it a different way if I desired. I did not use his services for this job only out of timing matters outside his control. I will certainly keep his card on the fridge for any other work that we may need done.

The valve to the cold water on the washing machine was leaking when left open. I thought I could fix myself, but I had no luck. I also had an existing leaky pipe and value to the outdoor faucet. Carl took my call right away (no voice mail). He explained what needed to be done, was courteous and easy to talk to. He arrived about 10 minutes early and performed the work quickly and efficiently. He even helped with an unrelated question I had about my furnace. I would call Carlyn again in the future. He also saved me hours of bonding with my father-in-law.

When provider called, I explained the problem I had with a leaking 3-valve tub and showerhead. He suggested that I get the part from a major retailer in the area and that to bring it to code I would need to go from a 3-valve to a one-valve system. He said that the cost would be roughly $150 for an American Standard one-valve tub/shower system and approximately $300 for labor. Upon my inquiry as to how soon he could get the job done, the provider responded that I could give him a call after getting the part. I decide to continue calling vendors; however found only one who would actually do a free estimate on site (as he was the only other one that responded - ALL Plumbing Repair) and clearly explained the options I had available after looking at the failing system.

After finding this plumbing service on angie's list, I called immediately. Carl actually answered his phone!!! That was a great start. He agreed to stop by between jobs to look for the leak under our kitchen sink and was here exactly when he said he would be. He quickly found the source of the leak and replaced the split pipe with a PVC piece. After checking all other possible sources, he also found that the garbage disposal was not properly mounted. He took it off and remounted it correctly. We engaged in a discussion about plumbing our fireplace to convert it into natural gas . The price he quoted was very reasonable; so we will be having him do this later this month. He was very pleasant and helpful!! He answered all my questions. Best of all, he is reasonable and located relatively close to our home. Thank you Angie's List for having Carlyn Mechanical Contractors on your list!!!!

"Carl was extremely helpful from my first contact by telephone. I had a potentially problematic situation with a toilet but he was not intimidated and did not consider it a "problem". He was delightful and neat. I just cannot say enough about his positive approach, willingness to share helpful and money saving information. My home is 24 years old so new fixtures have changed. Carl was creative without the "oh boy I can do it but it's going to be expensive" routine. I have had many repair and trade people in my house and there is a handful I would highly recommend, Carl is definitely one of them!!

After having 3 plumbers and 3 separate well water service technicians in our newly purchased home to do various repairs and water treatment, I was very pleasantly surprised to work with Carl who was intelligent and eager to problem solve our issues, as well as complete the various repairs for a very reasonable cost, cleaning up thoroughly and completing the work efficiently. DO: Explain the problem/issue precisely and completely. DO: Listen carefully, taking notes if plumbing/mechanical issues aren't familiar to you. DO: Explain your limitations of time, skill, or equipment. DO: Ask for an estimated time/$$ prior to requesting his services-Estimates are just that-When he is on scene, the unique features of problem might modify both time/$$ estimates. DON'T: Expect miracles or less than professional services; expect to pay appropriately.

I had water flooding my basement but could not identify the source. Carl came out twice to help diagnose the problem and recommended another vendor (e.g. rotor) to help resolve. He did not charge me anything for the diagnosis assistance, and then when I did call him to plug the leaks he was very prompt, professional, efficient and cost effective. I am very pleased with his service and demeanor!! I am very pleased to find a plumber I can trust!

It was a fair price, and out of the ordinary. They are very good. I would use them again in the future.

I had a leaking pipe in the ceiling on a Sunday. I called and he arrived about 2 hours later. Very professional. I easily recommend Carlyn plumbing.

They are very nice and even have told me not to call them if there was someone better and they would reference them to me for free. I like the man very much. We spent about $100 on that work. He was very nice and I would certainly call him again.
