First of all they changed the appointment without calling me. Second of all, on the day of the appointment, approximately 15 minutes before the appointment they called, let the phone ring once and then hung up. They never showed up. The next day they asked how the service was. BE AWARE. You have to pay in advance. There are NO REFUNDS. So I paid for service that I never received. It is impossible to get in touch with them by phone or e-mail.

The tech person resolved the problem of me not getting and receiving emails, in a short period of time. I was very pleased with his work.
Description of Work: I had problems sending and receiving emails. The tech person looked at my inbox, junk folder, and I had over 5,000 emails in my inbox and another 3,000 that I didn't look at. The tech person then started to delete many items in my inbox. That solved the problem. I can now use my computer. Its working now. Great job.... Computer Tech.

When they brought it out to set up they could not transfer the data so could not set up. After I transferred it myself, they came back and I found I had only 4 GB of RAM and a 250 GB hard drive, my data had already filled a 500 GB drive. I went to the store and asked for an invoice of the components in my computer. They could not provide one. I asked that they get back to me on how to fix this. No response. I sent a letter on 8/7 and to date have had no response. I tried to contact them on the website but their email does not work! I also could not access the customer survey they had sent. I have been very very disappointed in this company and their lack of customer service.
Description of Work: I requested that a PC be built with specific details, 8 Gb RAM, large hard drive and that the company transfer my data from one computer to another. I paid $950 for the build.

It was 2 days before I was told it was ready and the charge was over $80. When I got it home and turned it on, it still had the beeping and now, the monitor is blinking (dim to bright) every 2-3 seconds (this is a new problem). After about an hour, it blacked out and rebooted as it had been doing before I brought it in to be fixed. So, end result after 2 days at On The Fly Computer Guy, nothing was fixed and the monitor was now blinking (try working with that for a while). Oh, and by the way, when I originally asked how long they thought it would take to fix it, I was told that they weren’t very busy so they could start right away. Now I understand why they weren’t very busy.
Description of Work: I brought my laptop in to On The Fly Computer Guy to have two problems fixed. The first was that it was blacking out and rebooting several times a day and the second was that it was beeping between 2 and 20 times on startup. I was told it should only take about 4 hours to fix (“drop it off by 11 AM and pick it up by 7 PM”) and the charge should be about $40.

Response from On The Fly Computer Guy
Mr. [Member Name Removed] dropped off his Dell laptop on 6/29 at 10:47AM with the complaint that the "video goes black intermitttently". We only saw it happen one time, cleaned the laptop, ran hours of tests, checked for hardware failures, and it never happened again. The customer picked up the laptop on 6/30/17 at 4:34PM. The labor was one hour total which was approximately $80. Mr. [Member Name Removed] called back on 7/1 stating the problem was not resolved. We suggested that he bring it back in for us to check it as the problem was intermittent and did not occur while the laptop was in our possession after we ran our diagnostic processes on it. Mr. [Member Name Removed] stated "we were through" and refused to do so. We can't further test or diagnose his laptop if he is unwilling to allow us to. However, we are happy to do so if he changes his mind. Being an intermittent issue, it could take considerable testing on our bench to recreate the symptoms, so it would be in his best interest to leave it with us to more fully test.

Generally very well. The set up of the new computer, wi-fi, etc. was accomplished and the new computer performed much better. Some email problems still exist, but I think that may be more a function of my need to upgrade Outlook. They did not capture all of the data from my old computer, and I never got an explanation I understood as to why that did not happen, but whatever the missing stuff was, it has not been a problem for me, so obviously it was not all that important. (Someone else with more important data might want to inquire of them about making sure it all gets captured, if possible, before having them do this type of work.) I found them pleasant to work with and willing to explain stuff to a computer illiterate like me, but for some things I think they did not understand the level of basic walking me through stuff that I needed; however, I find this to be a problem with almost every tech person I've dealt with -- the stuff is so familiar to them and so easy to do, they zip through some basic steps I don't know when they are doing something, so I miss how I should solve the issue when it reappears.
Description of Work: I bought a new desk top computer and they set it up and transferred data from the old computer, helped solve some email problems, set up wi-fi, etc.

I feel I was a good customer and should be able to expect a response on whether the data back-up system is working and why I am not getting notified. I feel work was done and services installed but the customer service is dropped. I am a retired Customer Service Manager and have an understanding what service means.
Description of Work: I took an Angie's List offer from On the Fly Computer Guy to research a problem of stalling on the computer. I prepaid Angie's list for 2 hours of work completed on 5/13/16 for $89.00. They did the search in a timely manner. I also signed up for their back-up system for my data. I was notified daily of the back up. Notification stopped after a month. I called for several months asking why and if the system was working when I received my $4.95/month charge receipt. They repeatedly promised someone would check and call me. Never received a response. I have cancelled the service as of today because I do not know if I am getting the service or not. I have also done further work with On The Fly Computer Guy on the stalling problem on 7/21/16 for $100.98. The problem continued so purchased new computers. I had On The Fly Computer Guy install the new computers on 8/20/16 for $141.32.

I brought iPad mini in for screen repair on 11/19/2015. After several weeks I called to inquire about the repair. I was told parts were on order then I called several weeks later yet again. And got the same answer. This continual process has gone on for almost a year without any results. Through the the last 10 months or so since bringing in my working iPad I for screen repair I have never gotten a call or been contacted in any manor about the status of my iPad. This is by far the worst company I have ever had dealings with. I urge everyone not to use this company

This was the second time I used On the Fly Computer Guy. The first time was superb, this time not so much. Making an appointment proved to be a bit of a problem. It seemed as if those who were using Angie's List deals were put in a separate, less responsive category. It took several calls to finally make an appointment. I was given a "window" when the technician would arrive, but he actually showed up an hour late. I was about to leave the house when he finally called, saying he was running late. The slow running PC was fixed and is now doing fine. The two wireless links to the printers were also established, but within days the problem occurred again, so we are back to attaching wires from the computers to the printers. I had asked the technician if he would show me how to make the connection, but somehow he never got around to it. All-in-all, not a horrible experience but certainly a disappointing one, particularly compared to the previous visit.

The installation of the new computer went well. We had an Angie's List coupon for two hours of service and that was about how long it took to complete the task, which included answering a number of my questions about how the new computer worked and would be set up. The new computer came equipped with Windows 10. I am definitely not a very tech savvy person and have had some trouble getting used to this, and I've heard a lot of negative things about it, so maybe the shift to this new system is what is causing me to still have problems/questions about what I now have. So I don't know whether that's the case, or whether everything is working perfectly fine and I am just too un-savvy to deal with it, or whether the Computer Guys maybe missed something, or simply did not realize that they needed to explain more to me than they did, but I think I may need to have them back for another session. Again, this comment is not meant to be critical of their work because overall I am quite happy with what they did and their overall promptness, professionalism, etc., and would definitely consider using them again. It's just to illustrate that so much of anything having to do with computers is, for the average person like me, NOT as "intuitive" or easy as it is for the computer people. I also would point out that after they did the service, I got an email from them asking me to complete a survey, but when I clicked on the link to their survey, it didn't work. I also have had trouble contacting them or arranging an appointment by using their website. This point is irrelevant to the service they provide when they come to your house, and is probably something like the "shoemaker's children have no shoes", but if I were them, I'd spruce up their own computer site a bit. Probably if you want to reach them you are better of calling them, as they do respond promptly to phone calls if you don't reach a live person on your initial try.

Having them come to the house at no extra cost for two hours at this price clinched the deal for me. So I had everything powered up and a list of things ready for the Tech when he showed up. He was very personable and went right to work, running software to clean them both at the same time which I was very pleased with. The computers run much faster and the printer was also fixed ( the latter was so easy it's embarrassing, but hey! It works again) My only issue was arrival time. I really didn't even mind that he was late, I understand you can pay to extend your appointment and finish things off. But I should've gotten a call. I ended up calling 45 Minutes after the latest they said he'd arrive. They were very cordial, tracked his GPS and he was just down the street. Very good to deal with. He explained things thoroughly and I was very satisfied.

I took advantage of an Angie's List special offer: two hours of in-home service for $85.00. It was worth every penny. The service tech, Kyle, was punctual, friendly and efficient. He performed all of the services that were required in about an hour. One thing that became obvious to me as he worked: even though I am an experienced computer user, I would never have been able to do what Kyle did, particularly in so short a time. Great job, highly recommended!

I called On The Fly Computer Guy because of their A rating on Angie's List, and because they had a promotion for a 2-hour in-home service call for $89. My desktop computer shut down for no reason, and whenever I restarted it, it would shut down repeatedly within 2-5 minutes of booting up. Before buying the promotional coupon, I called them to see what they thought the problem might be. I was connected in less than a minute to Bill, who spent about 20 minutes with me to discuss my PC issue. He told me it could be the power cord, the power supply, the hard drives, a software issue, or a motherboard issue, but he suspected that my PC was most likely shutting down because the CPU was overheating. To test this, I took the side cover off and put a small fan on the floor aimed at the CPU. I started up the PC and it did NOT shut down. Bill was correct in his remote diagnosis and I was very encouraged by his expertise. I set up an appointment and was told the technician would "re-seat" my CPU using thermal paste. James came right on time and re-seated the CPU with new thermal paste. However, about 10 minutes after booting up the PC, it shut down. So even though the problem was definitely related to overheating, re-seating the CPU wasn't the fix we had hoped for. Unfortunately, James was unable to think of anything else he could do. He suggested that the problem was perhaps the video card adding too much heat, or that the CPU fan was not working as efficiently as it should be. Unfortunately, he didn't come with a replacement fan so he couldn't test his theory. Because I had prepaid for two hours of service and only about an hour had elapsed, I asked James if he could look at the PC to see what he might be able to do to speed up its performance, which had been lagging over the past several months. I had done a number of things on my own, but I was hoping that James had more expertise than I did and would be able to try things that I didn't think or know of. Unfortunately, the only thing he did was to install and run a free diagnostic tool that he thought might help improve performance. It didn't. I gave On The Fly Computer Guy a "B" rating mainly because I feel the company is very professional. I would have rated them lower if I didn't believe that the problem I presented them with would have likely been difficult for any technician to resolve. I might have been more upset if I had paid the full two-hour price instead of the promotional price. Knowing that using a fan to blow air into the PC absolutely fixed the problem, it would have been nice for James to suggest I bring my PC into the shop to have either the existing fans replaced or a new case fan installed, a service I would have been perfectly happy to pay for. However, his only suggestion was that I buy a new computer, which I feel was dreadful, if not expensive, advice. I paid $89 for a service call in which my computer was not repaired and during which no practical options were offered. However, I will certainly use these guys again, but I will insist on another technician coming to my house.

I took my Laptop to On The Fly Computer Guy because the battery wouldn't charge. I had tried replacing the battery and the adapter with no luck. They charged me 1/2 hour of labor to diagnose it. The technician told me he was going to try to get to it that day, and that I would get a call when it was done, but I did not hear back. Two days later I called them and they told me it was a bad motherboard, and would cost a few hundred to fix. When I opted not to have the work done, they told me the computer was in pieces and it would cost another 1/2 hour of labor to have it put back together. While it seemed like the diagnosis should include reassembly, I didn't complain because the total bill (63.79) was still lower than I would expect to pay one of the big companies for the same service. I picked up the computer and brought it home. Shortly thereafter I started it up so I could get my important files off of it. However, the keyboard wasn't working. Because of this,I wasn't able to enter my password to use the computer. I admit that I should have said something at the time, but I was busy with the holidays, and I wasn't too worried about it because I was no longer planning on getting the original problem fixed, anyway. After the holidays, I found time to think about what to do with my broken computer. I decided to sell it for parts, but first I had to get the hard drive out because it still contained my files. Doing this requires taking the access panel off the bottom, which also exposes the RAM. Imagine my horror when I found that the 6GB of factory installed RAM had been removed, and replaced with 2GB of a less expensive brand! This was when I finally decided to call. Although I felt the missing RAM was quite obviously intentional (whether company policy or a rogue employee, I don't know), I did not accuse the company of theft, and tried to be reasonable in my request. I asked for at least a partial refund because they failed to put my computer back together correctly, and for the missing RAM back. They declined to offer any sort of refund. In fairness, they did offer to "reseat" the keyboard and see if they could get it working, but given the lack of care they took the first time around and the fact that my RAM had gone missing, I wasn't about to hand over my laptop to them again. The part that bothers me the most is the RAM. First of all, they refuse to acknowledge a difference between factory installed RAM and the generic RAM that is now in my computer. They keep referring to it as the "missing 4gb of RAM," even though I continue to point out that what I am missing is "6gb of DELL OEM RAM." I get that Dell outsources their manufacturing to other companies, but they also certify their parts and the original memory sells for more than third party memory (especially important when you are planning on selling the memory rather than keep it). Also, I have since looked up the part number of the cheap memory they gave me, and it doesn't even have the same specs! It is slower than the original (1066mhz vs. 1600 mhz). Even worse, they have continued to give me the run-around about replacing the RAM. Since the original conversation, they never call me back; I always have to call them. When I do call, they have no news, but continue to claim they are "looking for" the missing RAM. However, it has been over a week, and still nothing. It is now clear to me they aren't planning on doing anything about it and are just trying to stall until I give up. And thus the negative review. As a side note, I have since decided to brave fixing the keyboard myself. It wasn't seated right, but that was easily fixed and not the reason for the malfunction. The problem was the cable had been installed upside down, despite having the word "UP" in huge letters on one side. Re-installing it correctly has fixed the keyboard. I have also found that the DC jack was not re-assembled correctly, either. It was oriented upside down from the way it should have been, and the screw to hold it in place was missing. While it may be tempting to use this company due to their low prices (and in my case, their close proximity), I would strongly urge against it based on my experience.

Tom was great. He was very helpful and patient. I bought the special 2 hours for $85 but he stayed as long as I needed to make sure all of my issues were resolved and questions were answered. He gave me recommendations for a new router and printer because I was having issues with both. He pointed out a few websites to check out for purchasing equipment. I explained what I wanted to do and he showed me solutions. He was very helpful and I would highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Cleaned my Mac desktop and laptop, fixed my scanner, taught me how to perform ongoing maintenance.
