They did a good job. The workers left without telling us that they were finished. We had some questions that we weren't able to get answered for a week. We didn't know how to power the pump. The price was good.

.They are very professional and they explain in detail on what needed to be done and how it would be done. They showed up on time and did a really great job. They cleaned up after themselves as well. Their products work great. At first we had only one pump to handle the water that we would get in the basement then about 3 years later we had a really bad winter and all that snow melted we had 2 to 3 inches of water.again. When I first had the pump put in they guaranteed me we would not have any more water in our basement when he came back out he put in a second pump and didn't charge me another dime. He really stands behind their work. This is the best company and I will continue to use them.

I would give them a qualified recommendation. I think the price was good and work was good, but I would make sure that they do exactly what's been agreed to. I wasn't able to be there all the time because I had to go out of town while they completed the job, and they were supposed to take out a closet and they didn't do it, and they took down my workbench and didn't put it back up. The quality of the work itself was good and the moisture is gone. The billing and financing was kind of a mess too.

Member, I am sorry your experience with us was warranting such a review. Our records indicate that we did accommodate you with additional work that needed to be done at no cost to you. Also, sometimes when our production crew arrives, they uncover items that our inspectors cant see. Our Foremen have a minimum of 10 years and are all W2 employees, we trust them to make decisions in the best interest of our customers, even though it may from time to time create some anxiety and confusion. It seems your comments are not as critical as your graded reviews. We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction, and again I am sorry your experience was not ideal.

Our service provider Rick Raucci came to the house and drew up an estimate for all components right on the spot and took the time to explain to us new homeowners about drain solutions and systems, which we really appreciated. This was a very big expense for us so we took a day or two to consider our options and whether or not to install all or some components (ie. just a dehumidifier or just one sump pump, etc.). We never felt pressured to make a decision ASAP, which helped make this process much less stressful. In fact Rick helped us weigh all of our options, but we recognized we had to install the full system because we had our third flood and had only been in our new house for less than four months and felt the problem could only get worse. So we set up a day/time for installation. We had to make sure that the basement was in proper condition for before the work could take place, i.e. no loose articles, removed worked benches, move things away from the walls where the drain would be placed, etc. The crew showed up on a Friday morning and instead of one to two days, the job ended up taking four days because the crew did not show up on Saturday when they said they would. They came to finish the job on Monday, and even with the frustration we went through and the inconvenience, we came out very satisfied customers because Rick and the foreman on the job did whatever they could do to make the situation right. Overall they did a great job installing the system and it really does work! This was an expensive endeavor for us, but I must tell you that the peace of mind we have when it rains makes the french drain and its components worth every penny. The system is amazing. As I mentioned, while everything was being installed, we had a little trouble with the crew coming back when they said they would to finish the job, but Rick really came through for us, and we will always appreciate that.
Description of Work: We had to install a french drain around the entire perimeter of the basement, two sump pumps, a dehumidifier and cleanspace to go over the bedrock.

Added: 07/05/2011: After my initial report was posted and Connecticut Basement Systems was apprised of it, they immediately got in touch with me to apologize and to do their best to convince me of their sincerity and professionalism. Long story short, they were successful in convincing me to contract with them to make my repairs. I expect work to begin on or about August 1and to take about a week to complete and I will post one more addendum to this report with a final rating that takes into account this final aspect of my project when all work is done. Based on their 'redo'. I'm hopeful that their overall grade to be an A. We shall see. Initial report: I contacted Connecticut Basement Systems (CBS) and arranged to have a representative meet with me to go over my foundation problems and give me a repair estimate. An appointment was made and during the ten days prior to the meeting, the company contacted me by email and by phone a number of times to re-verify our appointment. So far, so good. On the day we met, their company representative arrived right on time and did a very through examination of my foundation problems, both inside and outside the home. He and I then sat down and he gave me a detailed description of the methods CBS would be using to make the needed repairs/adjustments. After a very professional presentation (full color brochures and laptop videos), I was pretty much sold on CBS? solution and had all but decided to go with them if their cost estimate even came close to my project budget. As he left, the CBS rep told me that he would have that cost estimate to me in about four weeks. This was the first negative, the first red flag in what had been up until then, nothing but pluses for CBS. Four weeks came and went with no feedback at all from CBS or their representative. Another red flag. At week 6, I called the rep and asked for an update. Turned out the person responsible for putting together estimates had been out for an extended period but was back now and I could expect an estimate in about two more weeks. When week 8 came and went, I again called the CBS rep and left a voicemail message asking for update and explanation for the delay. I never received a callback. A third red flag. I made one more attempt to get some answers from CBS. I called and asked to speak to CBS? President, Larry Janesky but couldn?t get through the receptionist/gatekeeper. I was ?informed? that Larry wasn?t in at the moment, but even if he were, all calls such as mine were handled by Larry?s administrative assistant. The fourth and final red flag. It?s really too bad that these people were lax in following through with me. They almost certainly would have had my business had they done so. As it is, they?ll never see a cent because of the thoroughly unprofessional treatment I felt I received from the folks back at the home office.

What can we say here. The customer is 100% correct. The inspector dropped the ball. We sat him down and he owned it. I can say with 100% certainty that this is very much the exception and not the rule. I am publicly apologizing on behalf of my entire organization. No excuses, only never letting it happen again. I trust our overall reputation shows that it is the exception and not the rule.

Too soon to tell about the actual waterproofing work performed. Not happy with business practices. They were a needed first step. DO your homework and research costs and all options before using them. ASK for references and contact them to compare costs and proposed work. Inform CT Basements they are not subject to HIPPA Laws Don't let yourself be SOLD a Job.
Description of Work: Report and grade based on the business practices of CT Basement and not about the work completed. Had waterproofing done, sump pump and de-humidifier installed. No Refinishing of the basement. ($16K!!!) We planned on using CT Basements since they have a good rep and have done work for many neighbors (Westport CT condos) Sales Rep very personaable but a true SALESMAN- a deposit was given for work to be completed .The Rep would not share references -tell us in what units they worked at our complex (citing privacy issues) In hindsight it is apparant how strange that was -one would think the company would want to share a list of satisifiedcustomers/neighbors . There are no HIPPA laws that apply to contractors. They were never asked for personal info-- only to give Unit #'s so could make direct contact. Our own reseach gave us a list of some previous customers/neighbors -- found out how much they paid for similar work, their satisfaction level, etc. We found we were quoted costs about 50% higher for comparable work. The company was told we want to discuss quoted costs . They sent the same Sales rep back. He was questioned extensively about proposed work & all options and most importantly the cost. During his revisit he had an edge of hostility upon being closely questioned. It was apparant he's good at SELLING as long as you don't question. He thought he had an easy sell and did not want to be questioned or held accountable. We used them to complete the job, too soon to tell about effectiveness. We found it very hard to book the work at a convenient time. Due to the recession they are very short staffed on worker crews-and instead of paying less, they are charging more and harder to book. In summation CT Basements is Very Big on Sales and Advertising. If cost is not an issue AND you don't care to have the proposed work explained, you will probably be satisified. We are not at all happy with their attitude and Total cost--they care very little once you are SOLD a job. Their extensive advertising, couponing, president being interviewed on radio, etc. would lead you to believe differently. The crew itself was prompt and courteous. The work crew GC was supposed to come back about a minor issue which never happened in 3 months. They also are negligent about providing details on their touted warranty.(Spend more money with them annually for servicing to keep the warranty in effect) Bottom line is do you homework thoroughly before siging a contract with them. Their sales practices border on unscrupulous. Only time will tell if the end result will live up to their HYPE.

With all due respect our sales representative went out to discuss this proposal 3 separate times, at their request. At no time did we pressure this customer to purchase from us, at no time did we do anything unscrupulous. We do have 1000's of references and a simple Google search will give you what you need. If our customers are uncomfortable with certain sales people for personality we will send someone else out. The details of our warranty are CLEARLY posted on our proposals for everyone to read PRIOR to signing the contract. Our prices are based on the size of the job and scope of work.

Very very helpful upfront sales representative. Answered numerous questions over phone and email - really took the time to address all of our questions and concerns. Company accommodated delaying the project at the 11th hour after we discovered the need to first remove lead paint from the floors they would have to cut into. On-site project manager was very customer-friendly and showed me what was going on when I would visit while they were working. We've had a lot of rain in just the few weeks since this was done and so-far, so-good. Musty smell in crawlspace is gone. There's no question they are pricey, but they worked with us to construct the right solution for us. We'll have them back later in our project to install the floating floor.

We had several conversations with them. We finally decided that we didn't want to do the project. The quote was for around $1000.00. They were good. They were courteous and professional. Their basement service is mostly keeping out humidity or water in the basement. We have a fair amount of humidity down in the basement. They may be one of the best in the area. This is a field where there are a lot of mom and pop small operators. These guys appear to be a part of a national chain. They may be as good as anybody, but it's not worth my money to spend that kind of money on that kind of product.

Thank you for your review! Basement Systems is not technically a national chain, but we have authorized dealers throughout the U.S., Canada and England that are trained here in CT to install our patented products, and we support them any way we can. Our dealers are much more of an 'extended family'. They are all individually owned and operated, and the best in the waterproofing and crawl space industry. Thank you again for your review! We appreciate it!

Waterproofing of the basement went well but they did not follow through on all aspects of the entire job as they should have from start to finish. They were excellent in some aspects of their work and lacking badly in others. Overall I would give them a C grade.
Description of Work: I hired this company to waterproof my basement and crawl space, which was a large job in and of itself, involving the replacement of three sump pumps and installing two very large de-humidifiers. The job took a four man crew three solid business days in total. I believe they did a very professional job in that basement and waterproofed it to the maximum amount possible. There were some problems, however: there were four large, long tubes extending from my house onto the side of my yard from the basement as a part of the job. No one told me they would be left there until the ground became soft. Furthermore, once the ground softened, the company never made any attempt to come to my home to place these four long tubes underground. I made many calls to them to arrange for their underground placement and yet no appointment was made by the company to finish that job. I found that to be an unsatisfactory performance on the part of the company. In addition, the crew broke the saddle by the basement door, acknowledged the damage and I was told to submit the bill for the repair of said damage. That was done two months ago, and to date, I have not been reimbursed for that damage. So while the waterproofing job was well done, there are some aspects of this company's performance as a professional organization that do need improvement to give them an excellent rating. I ultimately hired an outside company (a drainage company) to bury the pipes underground, and they came immediately and buried the four pipes beautifully and within days of my call.

Connecticut Basement systems sent a representative come in to provide some insight into what they could do to prevent water from coming into our basement. For the price I would be paying, I didn't want to go for some kind of a "fancy sump pump". The representative, said since the basement was finished, suggested that they could put some kind of drainage system in. He had a laptop with video clips of the how work would go, but my husband and I were unimpressed. I had another provider give me a decent estimate for a sump pump and I'm certain now we will be going with them. The Connecticut Basement promotional folder with the nice glossy pictures were left for our peruse. He was prompt and professional but my husband and I were not.convinced by the presentation to go this way. The main thing he said that was also deal breaker for us what that he said his company would not replace the system if the "fancy glorified sump pump" failed to work.. We decided to get the work done by another company.

This company *really* knows what it's doing. My basement had flooding problems after the storms of 2007. I spoke to two waterproofing contractors. The first one wouldn't accept that my basement had some quirks that would make installing a system problematic and he proposed an off-the-shelf solution that wouldn't have worked. The CT Basement Systems rep, however, listened and showed me how the problems *could* be fixed. I, foolishly, decided to wait for a while before installing any system to see if the problem would go away. Of course it didn't. I called CT Basement back three years later and am *so* glad I did. The sales rep who developed the plan for the basement was knowledgeable, available and helpful all through the process and was not at all pushy. The installation crew was terrific--polite, punctual, efficient. It took them two days to do the entire prep, installation and clean up. Not bad for such a big job. I'm very grateful to the crew chief who, because he knew his job so well, advised me on tweaks to the project that both saved me money and improved upon the first plan. The basement is now dry. This is one of the best investments I've made in my house and my peace of mind. If you're thinking of using them, contact them early. There's good reason they're in great demand and scheduling the work can take a while.

We called Connecticut Basement Systems after finding them on Angie's List. We requested an estimate for installing a sump pump in our rear entry garage/basement. Rick came to our house within a few days and provided an estimate. We accepted his offer and agreed to a date for the work. Due to the severe weather, we had to delay the installation a week or so, but they were able to come to the house in mid-February to do the work. They were punctual, very professional and left the area cleaner than when they arrived. The sump pump has since turned on a few times, so we are glad we have it as all this snow begins to melt. We would definitely recommend Connecticut Basement Systems to anyone needing to have a sump pump installed.

We felt that they came only to sell something. I had some water in the basement and the sales rep wasn't able to identify how the water was getting in but was willing to sell me an elaborate system without identifying the issues. It was more a sales pitch. I don't think it is the right way to go. I actually had a structural engineer come out and look at the house. The guy saw the stuff on the table from this company and he didn't recommend them either. They were responsive. I would only use them as a last resort.

I have had them work a number of jobs for me. They initially sealed the basement, put in a sump pump, and put in a dehumidifier. That work was awesome. Then, I had them put in mold-resistant flooring. We actually ended up having them take it out, because they had problems with quality control on that particular item. We finally didn't use them for the work. Their professionalism about that was awesome. They were absolutely great to deal with. They were terrific about being honest about the quality of the product. They gave us the option of taking it out with a refund. They took out absolutely everything, left no debris, and left the place immaculate. They have a whole line of products to make your basement a waterproof space. The reality is that they were great about it.

We had water in our basement. A very professional salesperson came over to our house and gave us a presentation on her laptop on our option and left us with good reading material. This was compared to the other big name vendors that set up an appointment and never showed. They suggested putting a drain around the outer part of the basement leading to a sump pump. There was zero pressure, and they were flexible on the price. I also checked them against another reputable vendor, and their price was a bit lower. The workers were clean and professional. The got the job done quickly, cleaned up their mess and left. And the best part, no more puddles in the basement!

I was really impressed with them. The overall experience was good. We didn't really have any basement water problem after that. They did a good job. They left the place clean. There was quite a lot of work. They came in the morning and finished it at the end of the day. It wasn't really that big a job and from what I recall there were two people. They did a pretty decent job. We didn't shop around for the price, but I think the price was fair. I would have remembered if they were late. I would recommend them and if I had to use them in the future I would.
