Louie’s Tree Service LLC, Salem CT was hired to cut down several trees on our property. Louie made many promises. However, he does not deal with contracts, and without any written contractual obligation, he failed to deliver on a lot of his promises. Instead, he worked thinking that he was doing favors for us. He did not realize that much of what he did was factored into our original negotiated price and oral contract. Unfortunately, this caused tension and frustration for all parties. Louie was hired months before he finally decided to show up to cut down trees. We almost decided to go with another, more professional company after a few months, but when we informed Louie, he made such a huge deal over us giving our word, that we just resolved to wait. So, we waited and waited, and waited. Once he decided to show up, he confirmed an 8:00 a.m. arrival time, but showed up at 4:00 p.m. When Louie began to cut trees, it was amazing to watch! He and his worker Jose (hired 2 weeks ago) are very skilled at cutting trees. Jose is super strong (and funny)! However, Louie left our yard a complete mess. He left his empty cans, bottles, and food wrappers all over our yard. To add insult to injury, he even stuffed his trash in one of our logs. He left huge holes in our yard from the large falling branches and from driving his heavy machinery on the property, which we never gave permission for him to do. He said that he assumed that it was OK to tear up the yard because we did not have grass, and if we had grass he would not have driven on the yard. Also, he did not clean up after himself, but left unwanted wood-pieces and several large wood piles all over our yard for us to clean up, which was difficult, because the pieces he left were so large and heavy that we could not move them. In our original conversation, Louie promised to take the wood that we did not want. Unfortunately, no written contract…no obligation. Even so, we respectfully requested for Louie to clean up the mess, move the unwanted wood to one manageable pile for us to deal with, and smooth out all of the large divots in our yard before he left. He became very annoyed and angry. We were surprised by Louie’s response because we showed nothing but kindness to him and Jose. We paid for their lunches, treated them to iced coffees and waters, gave them dinner to take home, and even took 3 days off from work to help do a job that we were paying to have done. In fact, Louie finished cutting 10 trees in record time, because our entire family worked to make it happen. We even got Louie a job at our neighbor's house, before he started working for us. Instead of being grateful, he took advantage of us. Unfortunately, we paid him before he could respond to our requests. He left our yard incomplete, and without permission, he proceeded to use our yard to house his equipment and to travel to and from our neighbor’s yard to work. To our disbelief, Louie was ripping up our yard even more with his machinery, going back and forth to our neighbor's yard. When he was confronted about the matter, once again, he became upset. Wanting to help our neighbors and Louie, we remained gracious towards him and, and allowed him to continue to use our yard, as long as he cleaned up and leveled out the yard when he was done. He did not even say "Thank you." Louie’s deception went to a whole new level, when he tried to mix in the neighbor’s metal-filled tree house logs with the pile of logs on our property that will be milled for hardwood floors. At the time, we did not realize that Louie was being dishonest. It was strange that he changed his mind three times about taking the wood for himself. Even so, we thought that he was trying to be nice and help us out. However, we noticed that he was behaving dangerously. We ran out of our home when we saw him drive his heavy CAT from the neighbor's yard loaded with a thousand-pound log, over our well. We immediately told him to cease from driving near our drinking well. Also, because of his recklessness, we told him that we did not want ANY wood from the neighbor's property. We just did not want him damaging our property. His response was to roll his eyes and say "I did not hit the well." Again, we were surprised by Louie’s behavior, because normally, he would not have driven so close to the well, especially carrying such a heavy weight that could easily slipped from the grasp of the CAT. On his final day of work, we realized why he took such a risk. We discovered the logs that Louie mixed in with our lumber were filled with metal and treehouse fragments. He knew that if we had seen the condition of the logs, we would not have allowed him to leave them on our property. In fact, we learned what type of wood to avoid from Louie, so we were very disappointed that he tried to deceive us in this way. Needless to say, after noticing the metal-filled wood with the tree house still attached, we ran to catch Louie, who was in his truck, about to leave for good. He became enraged and proceeded to curse us and scandalize our name. By the grace of God, Louie was awaiting payment from our neighbor, who owned the logs. I informed my neighbor about the problem. Thankfully, with the neighbor’s influence, we were able have the unwanted logs that did not belong to us removed from our property before Louie left with his final payment. We have learned a valuable lesson from this experience… In the future, we will definitely withhold payment until all work is complete. Unfortunately, our yard still looks like a war zone. Even so, we are happy that Louie’s Tree Service LLC, Salem CT is gone. We do not anticipate using them again.

Description of Work: Louie took down a very large maple tree that was on the curb of a home we are selling and ground the stump. He then removed 3 hedges that had overgrown to make room for more parking. |Afterwards Louie came to our primary residence and removed about 8 sumac trees blocking our water view and ground the stumps of two of them. He spread the wood chips to control the weeds. He also trimmed back branches from an overgrown maple and removed dead branches from a very tall pine. Very happy with the work!!
