To be completely upfront, I did not hire this service provider. He "completed" work for the sellers of the house I moved into - as a closing agreement, they had to make the chimney safe to use (pointing, etc) and add a cap. I received a receipt as proof that he had made the fixes. After living in the house for a month, someone looked up the chimney and said "looks like someone started fixing the chimney but didn't complete it"...also, the flue kept hitting the chimney cap. I called Chimney Masters. What the sellers had asked him to do (which he even told me) was make it "look like it had been fixed," Do he bare minimum. He complied with this. He offered to complete the job for me ...for $500 additional). When I told him the chimney cap was too small and asked him to replace it (or give me money back and take it back) he said he would not but just add cement to my chimney to lift it up (which is not at all safe). There are a lot of chimney service providers - go with one that will not compromise on quality for a buck. I was pretty unbelievable to me that he even admitted to doing a sub-par job (and then thought that I would actually hire him!). Sad.
Description of Work: Supposed to make chimney safe by filling any gaps and add cap. Some superficial attempts were made but work was incomplete (by his own admission - he did "what he was paid to do") Chimney cap he put in was too short so flue kept hitting it.

It had been 6 years since they came and cleaned the chimney and also installed a cap when I found out that the cap they installed was a 7" round cap on a larger rectangular flu... a big "no no" according to others I spoke to and most likely the cause of backdraft problems I had had. I called them as a curtosy to let them know what had happened despite it having been 6 years .... as I'd want to know if it was my business and an employee had messed up. The owner offered to come out and look at the cap and what had been done.... but in the end he never did.
