DO NOT UE THIS CHIMNEY SWEEP WITHOUT FIRST CALLING YOUR BUILDING INSPECTOR OR FIRE MARSHALL!!! All three agreed I my fireplace did not need a chimney cleaning. However they did state in writing: 1. (Duffy) “We recommend that you do not use the fireplace”, 2. (Ball) ”In our professional opinion based on what we found, our training and applicable NFPA building code 211, that use shall be discontinued until . . . repairs are made”. 3. Napolitano) “It is recommended that the fireplace not be used”.. Instead, they stated: 1. (Duffy) “ would not be comfortable trying to repair the fireplace.” 2. (Ball) “ recommended that the ”Smoke Chamber” be “parged” (sprayed with an insulating high temperature mortar). Offered to do the job for $1,400. (From the pictures he took of the smoke chamber it was clear that, in fact, the smoke chamber had already been “parged”. 3. (Napolitano) offered “to install a Bell Fire Retrofit System for $12,000.” I was upset that I had a beautiful fireplace that could not be used. However, what I was being told did not make sense. At the suggestion of a neighbor, I called my Town Fire Marshal. He offered to come with the Town building Inspector to review the fireplace two days later. In the Building Inspector’s and Fire Marshall’s view, the smoke chamber was already parged and the fireplace was safe to use without any further work.
Description of Work: DO NOT UE THIS CHIMNEY SWEEP WITHOUT FIRST CALLING YOUR BUILDING INSPECTOR OR FIRE MARSHALL!!! I arranged for a fireplace chimney inspection/cleaning with all three chimney sweeps that I found that operate in Fairfield County – • [*** Link removed ***] (Gavin Duffy) • [*** Link removed ***] James Ball and • [*** Link removed ***] (Kyle Napolitano).

We received a promotion in the mail for a $135 chimney cleaning, which is discounted $15 from the normal priced of $150. We called to schedule an appointment and unfortunately weren't able to schedule a cleaning until after Labor Day, which would be after the promotion period had ended. Fortunately for us, they stated that they would honor the promotional price and make a note on our account to reflect that. We received a phone call a few days before our appointment to confirm, and were told that the price was $150, to which we reminded them of the prior agreed upon price of $135. They said they would make a note, and that the service would be $135, as previously promised. The service was performed and we received a bill for $150. We called over to ask about the discrepancy, were told that we did not qualify for the promotional price and that "I don't know who told you this". $15 isn't much, but not honoring a previously agreed upon deal is bad business. We will not be using or recommending Chimney Corners to anyone. Stay away.

I shopped around for some time to find a competitive rate for our chimney sweep and decided on this company because of their good reviews. However, their customer service leaves much to be desired. Initially I scheduled an appointment, put it on my calendar, and rearranged a few other appointments since they couldn't accommodate another date or time. They then they called two days before the scheduled appointment and cancelled. Oh well I thought, the person who I had spoken with initially had been friendly and polite, so I was willing to work with them and reschedule. However they couldn't get me in for another 4 weeks, which was inconvenient but it was all they had. Then, full disclosure, I missed our appointment for the rescheduled date, but promptly called to reschedule and apologize--profusely. However, when I needed to reschedule, they were completely unhelpful and rude. The woman I spoke with on the phone this time was apparently someone different, Jenna I believe was her name, and she was so unpleasant and nasty on the phone I was, quite frankly, astounded. She informed me they couldn't get me in for another four weeks, that there is usually a $100 cancellation fee, and that i would now need to leave a credit card with her on file, AND told me they would no longer honor the $20 off they had previously quoted me. She was completely unhelpful and condescending. All in all one of those horrible interactions that merit actually getting on Angie's List and forewarning other users.

Response from Chimney Corners
This review was difficult for me to read, because we, as a company take great pride in our customer service. I certainly never intended to come off as rude and I apologize if I did. I only meant to inform you of our policy. Perhaps I can clarify a bit in writing. We do offer a $15 discount to our customers during the spring and summer. Your original appointment was scheduled toward the end of the summer, and although we typically would not honor a discount in September, we extended the discount to you as a courtesy because we did have to reschedule your original appointment. I also apologize for the delayed appointment. We do get very busy in the fall and we are a small company with a small sweeping staff. We called you the day before your appointment to remind you that our technician would be coming, but when he arrived to your home, there was nobody home. It is true that we have a cancellation fee of $100 if our technician arrives to your appointment and no one is there to let him in the house because that appointment slot could have been used by another customer had we been giving even 24 hours notice. We did offer waive that fee for you if you rescheduled because we understand that things come up and one may not always be able to call to cancel. Pertaining to our company policy, once an appointment has been missed, we take a credit card when rescheduling to secure the appointment. Regarding the discount, at this point in the season, we could no longer honor the summer discount that we had extended to you. We would have been happy to honor the discount for the first rescheduled appointment, as it was our fault that we had to reschedule the first time. Again, I apologize for any negative feelings and truly wish this experience had gone differently. Kindly, Jenna

I live in Greenwich, Ct and have the need for 3 chimney caps. I called the company based on the Angie's Listing to arrange for an estimate. The response, while polite, was totally unsatisfactory. The company charges $150 for an estimate or, optionally, you can send them a and quot;pictureand quot; of your chimney by email and they will give you an estimate. Not exactly the type of service/response that one would expect since other vendors are more then happy to come to your home and provide an estimate.

They did an excellent job. Although it is almost impossible to match old bricks, they came pretty close. They even replaced a couple of shingles that were in the same general area (but not a chimney problem). Our chimney looks great and even neighbors have complimented it! The only recommendation to CC is that they need to do a better job of returning hone calls. It took forever to get an appointment date - mostly because many calls to them went unanswered or not followed up. Once we finally got a construction date, it was like clockwork.

After reading your review, we referenced your file in our database and we are a bit confused. We have no record of speaking with you recently regarding this work. We did send you proposals in 2010 to rebuild the tops of your two chimneys for $2000. The only e-mail correspondence we have had with you since then were two e-mails from our company following up with you on the proposals in August 2010, and March 2011. We keep very detailed records every time a customer calls, and we have not heard from you since. Whenever a customer calls us for a quote, and we have been to the house before, we always reference our previous notes. It does not make sense that we would have quoted you $6000, just 3 years after our original quote of $2000. Are you sure you have the right company? If it was Chimney Corners that you were dealing with, I truly apologize. I am glad to hear that the work has been completed and that you are pleased with the quality.

Really nice throughout and very knowledgeable. Would not hesitate to recommend. And the best price based on the few other estimates I received.

Called Chimney Corners after reading reviews on Angie's List. The appointment was made within a week of the call. They actually arrived early. The tech was very careful bringing in the equipment and used tarps to make sure the floors were protected. They did a thorough job cleaning the chimney and furnace flue. They spent about an hour and a half at the house. They didn't try to up-sell on unneeded services, although they made recommendations for things that should be looked at next year. All in all, very professional service, and I will definitely use them again.

. I would never hesitate to recommend these folks. The gentleman was punctual, which I appreciate. He was also professional and didn't leave the house covered in soot. In fact, it ws cleaner when he left. Still, the most important thing to me was him alerting me to the danger of creosote build up. Not like a chimney fire would be a danger - it's double-walled, but still, the fact that it was promptly brought to my attention is why I'm going to continue to use these folks. I've got them coming out on 10/19 to address the creosote issue
Description of Work: This is a chimney sweep. Guess what? That's what they do. However, they advised me that the creosote build up was severe. And we burn a lot of wood. Last winter was mild, but this winter is going to be something else. Every time I've called them they have been very responsive. A human on the phone after the first couple rings. Scheduling at this time of year is a nightmare, but they will find time for you. By far the best chimney sweep company I've ever used, and I would recommend them to all my friends.

They came right on time and cleaned the chimney thoroughly. Terry, the technician, showed me the damage to the chimney bricks, but did not think it was necessary to fix it at this time. He also pointed out a possible problem in the way the chimney liner had been installed when we purchased our wood-burning stove (from a third party) last year.

It went very well. I am in the middle of a large home renovation when they came, and they confirmed what my mason was saying and in the end saved me some money by telling me that what I wanted to do in terms of turning the fireplace from wood to gas wasnt going to solve my draft problems, but suggested some ways to solve it.
Description of Work: They came to inspect and clean 2 chimneys. They advised me that the liner in one needed to be replaced (I already knew this -but wanted to see what they said). They gave me the price, came when they promised and did what they were supposed to do. Didnt leave any mess.

Office is very efficient and friendly. Sweep was very knowledgeable, provided a lot of useful infomation, spent a lot of time cleaning flues, pointed out and informed me about a couple of minor issues that in his view did not warrant repair at this time. Recommended replacing chimney cap (which seemed reasonable), pointed out crack in chimney which in his view probably didn't warrant repair at this time. However, we heard later that based on his photos others at company did believe chimney needed to be rebuilt from flashing up -- an expensive job. Our experience with the cleaning/inspection was very good. But the repair recommendations were somewhat disappointing -- whose word do we accept, the sweep's on site, or the guys who were looking at the photos? Perhaps it's predictable that a $300 cleaning job should lead to a $3000 repair recommendation. We certainly won't pursue the repair without a couple of other opinions and quotes.

I'm sorry that you were disappointed by our recommendations. It is never our goal to push any repairs on a homeowner, but we will always be honest with our customers regarding what we find. Of course, it is always up to the homeowner to decide if the repair makes sense for them. As always, we keep all of our records on file. In the future, if you decide to consider moving forward with this project, we will have all of the information we need to give you an updated proposal.

They did a good job with the cleaning. There were a few things that I had them discuss, but they didn't comment on it so may be they felt that it wasn't a big deal. They didn't make any recommendations or anything. One of the questions was about masonry and they never commented on whether I needed masonry work or not. When I called, they said that somebody would call me back and they haven't called me back. They were slightly more expensive, but a lot of people believe in them. They were responsive, but they never got back to me the second time. They weren't rude. I may work with them in the future, but I'll be very specific and tell them what they need to accomplish.

I'd like to apologize to the member for not following up. Mid-September through December is a very busy time for us, and unfortunately, with so much going on, it is possible for something to slip through the cracks. If you would like to give us another shot, we would be happy to remedy the situation. We keep individual records for each address we have been to, and our records date back to 1991 when Chimney Corners first opened its doors. If the answers to your questions are not in your file, we can certainly send one of our technicians by to check on it. Again, I apologize for the lack of follow up, but I hope you will give us a chance to make it up to you.

I called because one of my two fireplaces had created intense smoking. I spoke with someone right away, and an appointment was made in an acceptable period of time. (They were prepared to come sooner than they did - but I had to postpone a week for personal reasons.) Terry came out, inspected both fireplaces and flues. Said one was clean. Said the other (the one that had smoked) didn't have a flue that went straight up so he couldn't see all the way. Swept it. Then took the time to explain EVERYTHING to me. I was thoroughly impressed. He told me all the reasons that the smoking might have occurred (our chimneys have a smaller opening than typical, we might have used green wood, etc. etc. etc.). He told me what wood to burn, and - more importantly - what wood NOT to burn. He taught me how to build a proper fire. He pointed out that we don't have chimney caps. He said it isn't necessary unless we want one. I said I did. He said he would have someone send me an estimate. He taught me about the flue for my oil burner, and how the oil company should clean it next time they service. And he said he would put me down for the next cleaning appointment in 2-3 years. Excellent price, excellent information, excellent service, no sales pitches. And Terry is delightful. I'll never go anywhere else.

Shortly after moving into the house in February, we noticed occasional fuel smells when our furnace went on. Since our boiler is new, and had recently been serviced, our serviceman suggested we have our chimney inspected. We called a chimney sweep with top A ratings and glowing reviews on Angie's List, who came to our house the next morning with an assistant. His opinion: in addition to cleaning, he needed to install a stainless-steel liner in our boiler flue. The total price: $2100. Our boiler serviceman, however, suggested we call Chimney Corners, which had cleaned the chimney for the previous owners, some ten years back. Chimney Corners made an appointment for the following week. While cleaning the flues, their service person, Terry, discovered a hole between the two flues that was probably responsible for the exhaust smells that were seeping into the house. Instead of putting in a steel liner, which he thought would be a needless expense, he recommended fixing the hole. Two weeks later he returned and patched the holes (there turned out to be more than one). The total cost (with the cleaning): $700.
Description of Work: Cleaned the fireplace and the furnace flues. Found and repaired holes in the masonry between the two flues, thus saving us about $1400.
