In the spring of 2011 I hired a general contractor to do some renovations for a commercial space. Some of these renovations included the installation of rubber flooring and carpet. My general contractor subcontracted this work out to Mr. Bachand. I guess Mr. Bachand was confused about the relationship between a subcontractor and a general contractor. Because when the job was complete, he came demanding money directly from me, not from my general contractor. Mr. Bachand even threatened to sue me if I personally did not pay him, despite the fact that I never signed a contract with him. (He even said it was agreed that I would pay in cash. Where was THAT agreement??? ) My only agreement (and contract) was with my general contractor. That’s whose services I was obligated to pay directly (services that included hiring subcontractors). But apparently Mr. Bachand felt he knew more about my private dealings with my general contractor than I did, because he insisted my contractor never billed me for the flooring work (which in fact he DID). It’s a shame. Mr Bachand did do a very good job installing my carpet and flooring, but his extreme lack of professionalism overshadowed his work. I would not recommend Mr. Bachand as a subcontractor, as he seems to not understand the relationship between a subcontractor, general contractor, and the end client. If you do hire him directly, get all agreements in writing, including how payment will be made. Mr. Bachand seems to be a person who tries to strong arm customers for money when he is in his own personal bind.
Description of Work: Commercial grade carpet was installed for use in walkways and office spaces (approx 600 sq ft). He also installed rubber tile flooring over a concrete base (approx 500 sq ft). This included cutting the tiles to various shapes to fit the desired floor design. During the initial placement of tiles it was found that they "bubbled" or "lifted" due to varying humidty levels. The tiles were taken up, and fitted back with glue to help keep them in place. Vinyl edging was used to bridge the edge between the rubber tile and the carpet. Also a vinyl wall base was added to the entire perimeter of the space.
