I was extremely pleased from the onset. Steve Pickering came out and gave me a detailed quote - which allowed me to secure the claim with my insurance company right away. After that, I called Steve and we got to work. He came exactly when he said he was going to come. He finished exactly when he said he was going to finish. He charged me exactly what he said he was going to charge. I added a few things on to the list that my wife wanted done, and he was great about tackling the new items as well. There were two minor items we brought to Steve's attention and Steve addressed them immediately and without question. In addition, Steve was extremely helpful with ideas on remodeling (removing bulkheads to update the bathrooms since we were gutting it out, etc.). The kitchen and bathrooms look great. I would highly recommend Pickering Construction to anyone.

Steve and his assistant Matt, were wonderful. Very professional and clean. The job was started on time. Every day they showed up they would lay down a drop cloth throughout the area. They showed up everyday for work between 8-9am. They worked hard throughout the day and typically took an hour for lunch. Barely knew they were here. Steve takes pride in his work. He didn't like how a tile looked so he ripped it down and had the tile guy redo it. He didn't like the paint job on the walls so he came back to retouch it up. He always asked how I wanted things placed, and if I didn't know, he would give me his opinion on what other customers had done. The tile guys and electrician he had come in were excellent and also very friendly, professional men. We had to have Steve come back within 3 weeks after finishing our bathroom to install a back ordered part. He came within 3 days of my phone call. I would absolutely recommend Pickering construction. Any future work in my house will only be done by them.

In one word , OUTSTANDING! From start to finish. I contacted them via messaging . They returned my text promptly, quickly gave me a quote, accommodated my schedule and arrived on time did a fantastic job and cleaned up after themselves. Their craftsmanship is beautiful. I highly recommend them . You will not be disappointed ! Without them my elderly parents would not have been able to visit . I'm grateful.

My in-laws are coming to stay with us for a couple of weeks this Christmas and we wanted to install a better handrail from the ground floor of our condo to the main floor. Steve did a fantastic job that looks great and is exceptionally strong! This is the kind of thing I might have attempted, and made a horrible mess of. The results absolutely convinced me we made the right decision to go with a pro!

I trusted both Steve Pickering and his assistant Matt which due to my circumstances was very comforting. The door looks and functions properly and I was happy to have found Pickering Construction.

These guys were great. They were very responsive to all my inquiries and concerns throughout the project. They were always punctual and professional. Their work was clean and efficient; there were even times we didn't realize they were working. When unexpected situation came up, they solved problems with ease and creativity. It was a pleasure working with this company.

The delays were not due to the contractor but to Lowes being a month late getting in the the flooring. Once the wood came in, the installation went forward smoothly and fast, the wall was repainted, trim put back in and caulked. Most of the furniture was replaced as requested. Steve does very good work and manages the complications of other trandmen having to get in. We certainly trust him with our house and will certainly use his services again as needed My only issue was that the site was not left as clean as I expected; it was a very messy job. Left over flooring was left in crawl space, which I only discovered when putting dehumidifiers away. Not a bad thing, just a surprise and something for me to deal with.

Everything went according to plan. This is the second time I have used Pickering Construction this summer and would not hesitate to use them again. They show up when they say they will, the do what had been agreed on, the price was fair and they cleaned up after themselves. They are very good...

It all went as planned. Steve was on time, did the job, cleaned up and did it all for a competitive price. I have asked Steve to quote another job based on my satisfaction with this job.

They are the consummate professionals. They completely gutted the room. We had a spray insulation company come in and insulate then they came back to re-build out the room. They are clean on time and completely professional. My wife is a neat freak and we have done many projects over our 33 years together. This is the first time she was happy with the cleanliness of the work done. They had the whole job complete exactly when they said they would, less than one week. They also built a highlight wall with reclaimed barn wood from the early 1800's, not easy as it is all irregular. The job was perfect!

Very well. he was responsible and thorough. He is proactive and has correctly identified a number of situations that require correction. If he had originally built the house, we wouldn't be dealing with these stupid issues. I would unquestionably hire Steve again.

Steve was great! Responded quickly and came by to finish someone else's project. I will have him come back to do more things.

We were managing this project from a distance, prior to moving into our house full time, and Steve made this very easy to do in spite of the fact that we weren't on site daily. He accepted deliveries of materials, sent photos of progress via text message, and generally kept us apprised throughout our project. Steve and his crew were flexible when we had to pause the project midway to accommodate visiting relatives, and still brought the job in within the time frame we had originally discussed. We'd had a disastrous experience with floor refinishing in another city, (where the floor guys left pounds of sawdust in every HVAC vent, the crevices of every kitchen appliance, all over the walls, etc.) and our experience with Steve's floor specialist couldn't have been more different. He was meticulous about cleanup and left our house as close to dust-free as humanly possible throughout the process. We were very pleased with the quality of all the work and with how neat our house was left, and would not hesitate to hire Steve for future projects.

WONDERFUL!...Steve and his assistant Eric..did an incredible job. they came on time, cleaned up everything...He made sure that everything was done correctly and polished. They had to work in 4 rooms while we were at home and they never disturbed us; they kept dust from sanding at a minimum. We are retired and we are home quite a lot and they were very considerate. It was a pleasure having Steve work for us and we will be hiring him again for future work. we have seen a lot of workmen in our day and Steve was the best...thank you Angies list. His price was very close to the ins. co estimate and we considered it very fair...worth every penny.

Initial call from me was returned by Steve promptly. Came next day, gave estimate the day after, and began work a day or 2 later.. Showed up when he said he would and was always on time. Cleaned up each day, removed all debris. Answered all questions and is quite cordial. I highly recommend Pickering Construction

We have hired Steve Pickering for many jobs; he is our go-to person in the Candlewood Lake area. As usual, he was responsive, reliable, punctual, and helpful. He did the job quickly and well. We would recommend him for all of your home improvement needs, from big jobs to carpentry and smaller jobs!

Steve was punctual when we met for the first consultation. He surveyed the situation and gave some helpful suggestions. After we agreed on the work and the estimated price, he showed up a week later on time and did a great job with the repairs. He was very neat and left no mess or dust. The work looks great.

I originally called Pickering Construction primarily with concerns about rotting trim around the exterior of the house. Especially one spot around the garage doors. We were also interested in possibly having the whole exterior painted. Steve was responsive, professional and thorough. He walked me through everything and spent time with me during the estimate. We chose him over the other two estimates for these reasons. His price was close to one other estimate and those were thousands less than the third. (Always get three estimates!) When the rotting trim was more extensive than we could see at first around those garage doors, Steve discussed in detail my options. He also took the initiative to ask to contact my insurance company to make sure he could work with them if the claim was accepted. We all worry about this with home repairs, more work than the estimate covers. In the end, the extra work only cost about $300 (in material, mostly for one support beam) more plus about a day and a half labor. Steve again took the time to explain and show me all concerns and options throughout the project. I felt in the loop the whole time and confident in the process. The rotted trim was repaired with composite Azack (sp?) and the remaining good trim was primed and pained to match the composite. Seamless! You can't tell the difference but we feel secure that the problem areas a repaired properly and will not be a problem again. They also fixed a gutter problem, screwing in all my loose gutters that were originally only nailed into the house. They became loose and rain ran down the house. The extra work only took about 2 extra days (or less) and that seemed very reasonable. The team of guys were professional, quiet and polite. The didn't leave garbage laying around and picked up at the end of each day. We are very happy with all the work. We will have Steve and his crew back in the spring to paint the entire exterior. I would recommend Pickering Construction to my friends and family. (I actually have already, to a neighbor).

They showed up on time and were consummate professionals. It was apparent that they care about the quality of their work and upon completion, made sure to leave the jobsite clean. They went beyond what was required when, after I mentioned an issue with a couple of door locks, he offered to investigate; took them apart; determined the problem, and fixed them at no charge. I was impressed and will be using them again.

I think we got excellent value for our money. The condo was unoccupied which may have made his job easier. We did not place time constraints on him but he got the job done in a reasonable time nonetheless.I was especially pleased with the floor tile which he suggested as an alternative to wood flooring. It looks great and will no doubt be highly resistant to wear since we are renting this unit out to a tenant. Steve is very busy but he returns querys to his cell phone promptly and did not balk at refunding money that I had spent on a used refrigerator that he provided that just didn't fit the space.

First let me say that I interviewed 4 contractors, before deciding to hire Steve Pickering. Steve was by far the most responsive, communicative, and interested in my project; he is honest and straight forward, which you can tell by talking with him. Steve started and completed this rather large project in about 4 months, as he projected. He was available for contact, answered my questions, and offered helpful advice and suggestions throughout the project. He was also patient about my getting a "bank renovation loan," which at times was frustrating and held up the cash-flow; but Steve worked with me on this. His work is excellent; he did exactly what I wanted; if I wanted him to alter something, he did not bat an eye. He was easy to work with and professional. This was my first experience in hiring a contractor and renovating a property, and it was fun and exciting, not so difficult as these projects are sometimes reported to be. I highly, highly recommend Steve to anyone considering an interior and/or exterior renovation; his carpentry work is also excellent. Thank you, Steve, for a very enjoyable experience!!

It went great! Steve came to the house at the end of August, looked over the job, and provided an estimate for the install. The next weekend, I purchased the door from Home Depot and had the Andersen door directly shipped to my home. After delivery, I was able to schedule a time with Steve to install the door the next week. Steve and Eric showed up on time on the day we agreed to have the door installed, and started to get to work. They were nice, neat, and were careful not to damage walls or molding in the house. We also had them replace the kick plate under the slider, which when the old piece was removed, found that it was allowing water to leak underneath and caused some damage. Steve came up with a solution to fix it and to prevent further damage. Since Steve went out to pick up a piece of PVC board to replace the kick plate, we thought it would be a good idea to also replace a piece of wood that was under our bedroom window that was showing signs of rot. He was very flexible and was willing to add the request to his job for very little extra cost. Both Steve and Eric did an great job! They were neat, cleaned up all the nails and debris, and even was able to donate our old door to people that could use it instead of just throwing it in the dump. I like the thought of that. The guys that wanted the door showed up the same evening and loaded the door on their truck. The door looks wonderful! Thanks for your hard work and attention to detail. Smile...

I really appreciated the responsiveness from Steve in setting up the job. Steve and Eric were a pleasure to work with, and the work completed met my expectations. Also appreciated Steve dispensing advice when asked.

Steve had to make some modifications due to tolerance differences (door frames vs openings ). The end result was a well done project that is aesthetically pleasing . I would contact him again for future projects.
