Jet Glass Works

Description of Work: Josh Thompson, owner of Jet Glass, was contracted to install a shower glass door comprised of three glass panels on March 13, 2010. Measurements were taken by Josh Thompson, and the job was to be completed in 7 to 10 days. The project was delayed initially because Josh reported that the company cutting the glass made an error on one of the panels by putting the holes on the wrong side. Many weeks passed as Josh claimed that the glass cutter was backed up and had not fixed the problem yet. During these weeks, Josh was very lax in answering repeated phone messages from the homeowners, therefore keeping us uninformed about what was happening. Finally, on April 24 (5 weeks later), Josh came to the home to install the panels. He installed one panel, but then claimed that the glass cutting company mistakenly gave him the wrong panel of glass, so he was not able to finish the job. In addition, the piece of glass he did install did not open properly as it hit the tile on the ceiling. Josh claimed that it could be lowered, but he could not do anything further without the third piece of glass. This project is being done in a second home so the homeowner is not there all the time. Each time an appointment is set, the homeowner makes a special trip to be there. Josh agreed to come back with the correct piece of glass the following Wednesday. On Wednesday morning he called to say he could not come due to personal circumstances. After an angry confrontation on the phone, he did not show up the following weekend nor did he answer numerous voice mail messages. Finally, a week later, Josh responded and claimed he had no control of the problem with the piece of glass. He agreed to finish the job on Saturday May 15th. He never showed up or called, and we have been unsuccessful in reaching him. At this point – 9 weeks from the start – we are out $1200, have one incorrectly-hung glass shower door, one not-yet-hung panel, and one yet-to-be-delivered-and-installed panel. We are certain that the deposit of $1200 will not be seen again. Josh insisted on a cash payment as he claimed business was slow, and the bank would not cash our original check. We are now compelled to arrange for another contractor to finish the job at an even greater expense. Jet Glass is most probably unlicensed and uninsured, definitely incompetent and unreliable, and the business should be thoroughly investigated for fraudulent practices.
