He was fantastic! My house is old, so the plumbing is outdated and it's hard to find parts that fit. He found a terrific faucet, reasonably priced, and installed it quickly and at a reasonable rate. He cleared the clog quickly, also, and was very professional and helpful both times. He's outstanding, he's local, he's reasonably priced, and he sticks to his quotes. I would hire him again any time I need plumbing work.
Description of Work: First, needed a dripping faucet replaced, then asked him to come back to unplug a clogged drain

I called David late on a Friday and he was there on Saturday morning. He did charge overtime since it was outside of his normal hours but his ability to work fast and quickly determine what the underlying issue was invaluable since we were in a time crunch. He called a friend to install the hot water heater on Monday and got a very fair price for that. His professionalism and knowledge were far superior to any plumbers that had come through our house previously. I will be booking him again in case any issues arise.
Description of Work: We were having issues with the pressure on our oil boiler and a chronically leaking pressure relief valve on it. David was able to come in and quickly test and diagnose that it was an issue with our water heater and not the boiler and lined up someone to replace the water heater.

David practices forensic plumbing and he is very thorough when investigating. I have a long history with different plumbers who would show up tighten a valve or replace a pipe and leave me with a recurring leak and an unsolved problem. David is the only one who really cared enough to discover the source of the lower water pressure in our system. He showed up exactly when he said he would and he finished the job as he promised.

David was more thorough than the technician (who made four visits) was in diagnosing my malfunctioning dishwasher. The repairman insisted it was a clogged pipe. David quickly proved him wrong and the repairman was forced to refund all my money. It was actually the dishwasher that needed to be replaced, not anything to do with drainage. It was a bit pricey to have that all cleared up, but it solved a huge headache that had been going on for two weeks,

it went great. David came out to see what needed to be done, charged us the quoted price, which was $600.00. There was additional work to be done which was an additional $250.00 which was very reasonable for what he did. He saved us a ton of money by fixing what we had rather than tellling us to buy a new system, which he said we may need down the road, but in the meantime, everything is working really well we were very impressed with his work, and with him in general. We would definitely use him again. IF we do need a new system, he will be our go to guy.

David is a personable, friendly professional, who knows his business and does an extremely good job. From the first telephone contact, which came within a few hours of my calling him (it was a non-emergency situation - for emergencies his answering message gives a different number to reach him immediately) I realized he would be good. He asked me to email a picture of what needed to be done, and accommodated me with a next day appointment at a time that would be most convenient for me. He called before coming over to let me know he was on his way, and arrived precisely on time. He looked at what needed to be done, got everything he needed out of his truck - in one trp, and had the old things out and the new things in in no time at all. Everything was done perfectly, with absolutely no mess whatsoever. As it says on his website, and in his business description on Angie's List, he does mostly service work, and in fact the reason I chose him in the first place was that he does certain specific things in a certain defined area, and these matched my needs exactly. He was also able to give me some good advice on some tile work I was thinking about having done. The only surprise I got was the price he charged: much LESS than I thought it would be. I can, and do, recommend him highly, and if it were possible to go higher than an "A" that's the grade he deserves.

Since there was no turn off valve for the water he had to shut down all the water for the house to make the repairs. I had told him the maker of the system and on the way to my house he had picked up the parts he would need. He had arrived exactly at the time promised and went to work immediately. When he was finished he asked if I realized I was wasting a lot of hot water by having 5 gal per minute output instead of a 2.5. I wondered why I always ran out of hot water so quickly. He asked if I would like it replaced with a 2.5 and I agreed since I had one that was left by the Utility Company when they did a house inspection to save me energy. Now when showering I do not run out of hot water even though the pressure is not as great I can live with it. He also asked if I had any other problems and I mentioned my kitchen sink had an air aider on the faucet which was terrible. He replaced it and also replaced the part that controlled the water pressure. I no longer have to struggle to lift the handle up and down to get the pressure I required. The good thing about David Howard was he responded to my leaving a voice message within an hour and got here in 45 minutes. He had everything I needed and was very professional. He was a nice guy and knew what he was doing. There might be an additional charge for parts that he replaced that he was not sure of the price. He will e-mail that to me if there is.

The Job was preformed on 9/5/13 not this March 20th. I replaced parts IN the toilet & the supply tube that was leaking, not the Seal. The Ceiling was sagging when I got there. I also replaced the kitchen faucet, (I supplied it) & most of the drain pipes under that sink. Repaired a leak under the bath sink & the tub valve. I ordered parts at my expense for her for other work, not returnable. She never pd the balance of her $600.00 bill which I called her & emailed her several times. I also stopped in one day & spoke with her through her door. She said she would mail the money. She has never called me in those 10 months to complain or pay. I wish Angie's list could some how hold people responsible for there lies & untruths. It is to easy a platform for customers to run contractors names through the mud.

I sent David an email for a potential job in Danbury - but he politely explained that he does a lot of service work in his surrounded areas, which doesnt include Danbury at the moment. Because of his professionalism and promptness in responding to service calls, he cannot take the risk of being about 30min to 45 min away on a service call. I completely understand his position and was happy with his communication. David also recommended where I can go to find what I am looking. Overall good experience in dealing with David. I cannot comment on the quality of work - since he hasnt done work for us.

I am looking for a plumber to add a bathroom to my home so I called David Howard three times. Finally, after the third phone call I received a call back. David was incredibly rude and said he is not interested in adding a bathroom to my home, even though I never was able to describe anything about the home. He said he doesn't 'service' Danbury, either - which doesn't make sense because he lives in New Milford and services all the surrounding towns except Danbury. I guess he must make so much money that a small bathroom is not worth his time. I cannot comment on the quality of his work but I can comment on his 'forget you' attitude. I wouldn't trust this guy for anything.

I return all non-emergency calls within 24 hrs. I immediately returned [member's name removed]2nd call which was within 24 hrs of his first call. I apologized for not getting back to him sooner and explained to him that Danbury is not in my service area and that I do not do new bathrooms as my focus is on service work. I am sorry I could not meet [member name removed] needs and I trust he found someone who could.

I emailed David on Thursday around noon and got a call back from him in less than 10 minutes. We arranged to have him come to our home the following day. He arrived ahead of time and after looking at the shower and the part told us that the part we had been sold was not the correct part. He was then able to take apart the shower handle, adjust it, clean it, and get it put back together and working properly. He advised us before he came that since he is about 50 minutes away from our home, he would have to charge us for his driving time to and from our home, which we agreed to. He was very thorough, very responsive, very polite, and took the time and effort to fix our problem. I would not hesitate to call him again or recommend him.
Description of Work: We had ordered a part for our shower temperature handle and needed a plumber to install it. I called three other plumbers and waited several days and never got a call back from any of them. So I found David on Angie's List. He came out and determined that the part we were sold was not the correct part but was able to fix our problem without having to buy another part.

Fantastic plumber - very knowledgeable and great customer service. Third plumber I had to the house in 12 months. I wouldn't even consider calling the other two back, and I expect to call David Howard back for any other plumbing problems I have. He charges $100/hr plus parts and includes his travel time in the hourly charge, which seems reasonable - others charge a flat travel fee no matter far. The first work I had done was in Nov 2012 on my boiler. I had had another company in to service it and repair a zone valve; I noticed immediately after they left that I was getting a lot less heat. I hadn't been thrilled with them, so I called David based on his Angie's List ratings. He was able to come the next day, and determined that I had a faulty pressure relief valve and that my water feed wasn't working so there was very little water in the system and the pressure was way too high (FYI - very dangerous). The previous plumber noticed the temp and pressure seemed off and replaced the gauge, which didn't fix the problem, but his only other thought was that the aquastat was bad; he didn't realize the other two issues. I had since purchased a replacement aquastat and David agreed to install it even though that isn't actually plumbing work; the boiler ran fine all winter. In June 2013, my sump pump stopped working over a Friday night and I got 3" of water in the basement. I called David Saturday morning; he was over in 30 minutes and rapidly discovered the float was jammed - a very easy fix. He only charged me for 1 hour even though he was here for at least 45 min making sure the pump was going to work and he had had to load a bunch of gear in his truck before he left home. It was OT rates for Saturday, so total cost was $150, which I thought was very reasonable. Bottom line: I recommend him without reservation.
Description of Work: Repaired broken sump pump; in November 2012, made numerous repairs to boiler after previous plumber failed to spot problem. Boiler repairs cost ~$550.

One day we stopped having water. My husband checked everything inside the house. He couldn't figure it out. We went on Angie's list and saw David's name. We called and he returned our call within an hour. He came to the house and determined that it was the well pump. He called an associate that he works with and both of them came back within 2 hours. They replaced the pump and everything was back in order. I found David very professional, honest and responsible. Michele B

I just bought a house in the New Milford area and noticed that the water pressure for the shower was low. Before purchasing the house, the home inspector said the water tank needed to be re-pressurized because the pump was going on and off with just the flush of a toilet. This lead me to calling David Howard so he could fix my water tank and get pressure back for my shower. Communication was great and he went well out of his way to set up a date/time to meet my schedule. A+ for communicating with him. He was very punctual and arrived right on time. He drained my old Harvard water tank and began the process of re-pressurizing it. He first noticed that my pressure gauge was broken as it was frozen to 40psi and it didn't move whether empty or full. He had a new gauge, which I agreed to have installed and added to the bill. Once the tank was adjusted and working properly again I thought the job was done and that would be it. To his credit, he wanted to ensure this corrected the main issue I called him about . . . low pressure in the shower. Upstairs we went and still, very little pressure with the shower. Thank goodness we checked because not only was there a water tank problem but something wrong with the shower control value! Anyone else would have just left and I would still have the problem. He asked if he could proceed in taking apart the handle to identify the issue. Again, I agreed. He always explained what and why he was doing something! Basically there is a piston that controls the flow of hot and cold water in the single-knob faucet. Since my home was un-occupied for 4-5 months, the piston froze/lock-up and was not delivering any cold water so my pressure was greatly reduced and yes, my showers were very hot. He had a replacement piston in his truck, which again he asked if I wished to have replaced. Of course I said yes and of course another unexpected price. Don't get me wrong; NONE of this is his fault. It had to be replaced. After putting the unit back together finally, good solid water pressure in the show. The good:- Great communication- Punctual- Detailed & explains everything he is doing and why.- Great problem solver The unpleasant part:Expensive but like other have said, you pay for what you get. I believe anyone else would have run out of there when the task was finished but he checked and did a complete job. I plan on using him again as he is trust-worthy and reliable.

David answered the phone message promply and we scheduled an appointment within days. He arrived punctually and did the work neatly and with minimal disruption to the surrounding areas. During the work, he explained some complicating circumstances that made the work take longer. In the end, the result was very satisfactory and looked very good. He was delayed on the second of the two appointments, but was apologetic and did not charge us for the extra travel time due to traffic. Do be aware that he charges his normal rate for travel time in both directions, so if the job is far from New Milford it might get expensive. (We are about 20-30 minutes away.) Also, David is rather a perfectionist which is generally good but carries a price. He is extremely careful, organized and detail-oriented.
Description of Work: 1. Remove an old pedestal sink and a toilet and install replacements for both about a month later, after they'd been purchased from a supplier. The old fixtrues were functional but we wanted to update the style and get better flushing aciton on the toilet. 2. Locate, diagnose and repair a leak that was showing on a first floor ceiling under a bathroom (cooincidentally, the same bathroom that was having the fixtures replaced).

David is a wonderful guy: responsible, punctual and professional in every way. He quickly identified several problems, diagnosed them accurately and made all of the repairs in a timely and efficient way. He directed me to a plumbing supply store where I was able to select a new faucet. He went out of his way to be helpful, and was friendly and responsive at all times. Although some other reviewers have reported that his prices are on the high side, I must say the they are worth every penny, given the peace of mind that results from the quality of his work. I have already enthusiastically recommended him to several neighbors. It's good to know there is someone out there upon whom you can depend as easily.

The relief valve on our Weil-McLain boiler failed open, flooding our entire utilitly room. Using Angies List I found David Howard Plumbing. He told us he could be here in the afternoon after he completed the current job he was working on. This was the first sign of his professionalism, that he would not leave his current job unfinished. I was able to shutdown the water supply to the boiler and stop the flooding and clean up the mess before he arrived. David arrived on time and not only diagnosed the immediate problem but identified several other REAL problems with my home heating system. David stayed on through the afternoon showing me the defective parts and what their function was and how they worked. Ultimately he replaced the automatic feeder, expansion tank, taco vent, and purged the entire hotwater system. David taught me a lot about my heating system that I didn't know before and the boiler has never run as effeciently as if does now.
