Contractors were on time and took only 3 days to waterproof basement roughly 1000 square foot. warranty is excellent guaranteeing no water into basement for the lifetime of home. Now I can finally begin the process of finishing off my basement and adding additional square footage to my home

Description of Work: CAUTION! PELLA HAS DESIGNED OBSOLESCENCE INTO THEIR PRODUCTS. We installed some 20+ Pella windows and two sliding doors, one interior and one exterior, in our house in 1993. Within 5 years we had to replace the first window and by 2008 had replaced another 5. Paying for most of them. Either the mechanisms had fallen apart or windows had fogged or rotted. Our most recent problem is that the mechanism on a sliding door to our deck broke about 4 years ago. We repeatedly called the service center and were unable to get them to address the issue. The door has 2 locks and until recently the breakage only affected one so we lived with the problem. Most recently, the knob to the lock that did work gave out. After several unsuccessful calls to the service center I had to call Pella headquarters to intercede on my behalf. Finally the local office called back and sent a technician to take a look. End result? The door is designed so that the mechanism cannot be replaced. The only option, aside from living with a broken door, is to replace the whole panel at $3000. However, as that model was discontinued, the only option to two mismatched panels is to replace both panels, $5000. One other option, is to replace the knob on the recently broken lock which would bring the door back to at least one working lock. However, Pella will not sell me a $5 knob but wants to charge $260 for the whole mechanism (WHICH CANNOT BE INSTALLED DUE TO THE DESIGN FLAW). "I am sorry, but your door is out of warranty". This house was built in 1893 and has the original front and basement doors, and most of the original windows. All are in fine working order. Pella designs windows and doors that cannot be fixed and start to fall apart in 10 years or so. Go figure! When I asked the manager what he stood by, the warranty or the supposed reputation for quality of Pella products he stated emphatically "I stand by the warranty". So much for Pella quality!
