I've used them for about 15 to 18 years. They're an A in everything. I would definitely use them again. It's a small family business with excellent service and prompt response.
Description of Work: I use Mid-State Mechanical. The last time they came out, they did an annual inspection and cleaning. I also got my son a brand new furnace. They came and found the problem and then came back and gave me a good price and installed the furnace.

Mid-State was extremely responsive and arrived on time with all necessary equipment both times I've used their services. In replacing the water heater, they gave me options for what kind of water heater to install and the pros/cons of each choice. They also serviced the old oil boiler prior to winter and it has worked with no issues. The house had been vacant for a couple years so everything was winterized and de-winterized; therefore, getting the boiler and all the pipes working again was not a simple task in this case. Both Larry and Matt are very knowledgeable, and I know I can call Mid-State at any time with any issues.
Description of Work: Replaced old water heater with new electric water heater; serviced oil boiler prior to winter season (had been shut off for years while house was vacant).

Mid-state mechanical was super responsive and professional. I called them on a Friday with issue and they came out on Monday to get it taken care of. They even had me take a picture of the faulty part so that they could make sure they came out with the necessary parts and materials to leave my home in working condition. These guys are all about customer service!

Flawless experience. A small well-run family business who take great pride in their work. Father and son team Larry and Matt provided a very competitive quote as well as information on various options I was unaware existed. I was treated with professionalism and courtesy without the typical " sales pitch". Work was completed exactly as promised and in half the time of other proposals. They made what I thought would be a complete nightmare into the smoothest project we've experienced in our home.

Earlier in the summer we had a problem with our A/C system (no cold air) and Mid-State Mechanical was the first firm to respond to our call. They showed up on time and seemed to know what they were doing, explaining as they went. The problem was a bad electronics control board, which they diagnosed and replaced in reasonable time, at reasonable cost, about $350 total. Several months later in the Fall, as it got cold outside, we tried turning on the heating system, and nothing but cold air came out. We had a service contract with our gas supplier, who sent someone over to look at it; he quickly figured out the control board had a problem (a diagnostic/error code was clearly signalling something wrong) and would have to be replaced. As it was under warranty from Mid-State, we then called them up for an appointment to replace it. Initially, the (assumed) owner at the Mid-State office claimed the diagnostic code was different from what the gas-co. technician thought; we thought it strange she'd know, since nothing and nobody would have told her (these boards don't exactly run a website and email list on their own). The owner also claimed she didn't have a record of the work from the first visit; fortunately we had the receipt for proof. So eventually they sent the same guy who did the replacement the first time. After confirming the board was bad, he swapped it out and was done in under half an hour. He charged a full hour of labor for the work, which we weren't so pleased about. I understand firms usually charge a minimum 1-hour fee, but his obstinacy was annoying enough to prompt this negative review, because: 1. The problem certainly wasn't our fault, and could've been theirs (see below). A reduced fee for an easy job would be fair. 2. It's possible/likely they didn't fully test the board (A/C AND heat) the first time. 3. We'll never know if the board Mid-State first swapped in was faulty to begin with, and knowingly so; with the A/C fixed at summer's start, they'd have known the heating system wouldn't be turned on at all for months. While electronics boards don't last forever, neither do they go kaput within a few months. Our old one was over a decade old. 4. The owner's strange counter-claim and then denial (per above) did not inspire confidence and trust. They had also, shortly after the first visit, given an estimate for water tank work that ended up being almost twice as much as what other firms charged. On the second visit, seeing that we had gone with someone else, the technician made several comments about that fact. Not quite necessary or professional, and it might have motivated him charging us as much as he thought they could get away with.
Description of Work: Fixed A/C problem in early summer - replaced a broken HVAC electronics board, but didn't test it fully, because the heating system (controlled by the same board) didn't work in the Fall, and had to be replaced again.

We did NOT use them.The price quote is what we paid foranother company and they were excellent!
Description of Work: I called them for an estimate for work on our central air. We have had work doneover the pastcouple of yearsby different companies and compared to them Mid-State's price quote seemed way to high compared to all the others.I decided not to go with them becauseof that and because of the reviews I redabvout them.

Estimate was in line with others I had gotten. The quote I received was for the recommended products for my needs but there was no pressure to use any of the specific products. (I had that issue with a few other contractors.) Owner is very professional and informative and always willing to answer all my questions promptly so I could make a good decision. This is a small owner operated business and everyone I had contact with was courteous and professional. I ran into a few bumps along the way and they were always willing to work with me. I am very happy with my choice and would recommend Mid-State to anyone.
Description of Work: Installation of new oil boiler and indirect water heater. Installation was performed on the scheduled date, even thought Irene had just blown thru and disrupted most of the state. Crew, owner and 2 assistants, arrived on time and the job was completed by late afternoon. Their was was very professional and they maintained a respect for my property and cleaned up after themselves promptly when finished. Upon completion they also covered all of the necessary information I needed to know and explained the 'parts' I needed to understand as the owner and how to used them.

They were efficient and cleaned up after themselves. They were recommended by someone that does the licensing or inspections in town. There was a lot of integrity with this company. I recommended them to a friend who was also happy with the quality of their work.

Same technican(owner's son) came to work on A/C who previously did worked on a furance mounted humidifier.He was on time ,professional and completed the work in a timely manner. He was very helpful concerning the condition of the 16 yr old A/C unit and the issues to be considered if the unit had to be replaced in the future.Did not push replacing the unit. As the rating shows I would highly recommend this buiness.

They came on time, took no longer than they had stated, (two days) and were on there way after a good cleanup job, leaving me with a much smaller unit that is much more efficient than the old clunker, which they disposed of completely.
Description of Work: The vast majority of the work was done the first day. This was getting rid of the 60 year old oil burning furnace and replacing with a much more efficient new oil burning unit. Two guys (the owner, Larry, with one of his sons) did all the work. By noontime of the second day they cleaned up an left the place neater than when they had started the day before. The bested the next price for a new same-type burner from a local good company by $2,000. (The other company thought they forgot about adding a new 275 galon tank to the original estimate. When I asked Larry about that he said that the tank WAS included in the price!) They could not have been nicer, neater or more considerate of my needs. I would highly recommend these guys. They were recommended to me by a reliable person, and I am extending their good service to those in need of good, well-done work. dick r.

They were prompt for initial appointment, getting me a quote and information on Consumer Reports report on American Standard. This service and their quote beat 4 other companies I called. They installed system within a week and were very professional and efficient, a nice family-run business. I was so impressed I hired them to replace dryer ventilation.

They initially installed the unit 3 years ago. Recently the gas hasn't been igniting so they came out and fixed it, at no cost even though the warranty had already expired. That is what I call customer service. I would highly recommend them to anyone in my area.
