United Cleaning & Restoration, LLC is a full service damage restoration company specializing in the treatment, repair, and restoration of fire, smoke, and water damage, as well as other damages caused by theft, wind, and vehicles. UCR provides both cleaning and full service general contracting services to the entire state of Connecticut. Our service leadership team has an average of more than 20 years of experience with projects that involve all aspects of residential and commercial cleaning and reconstruction.
Bill Leone, Rich Naccarato, and Bob Sorensen had a vision to alleviate the hassle disaster victims face by forming a company that handles both cleaning and restoration. Friends since grade school, Bill, Rich, and Bob each worked for separate cleaning/restoration companies.
They saw a need in Connecticut for a true "One Call Does it All" disaster recovery company. It was not long after they formed United Cleaning & Restoration, LLC that their concept of a company that handled both cleaning and restoration exploded.
In the eleven years of UCR's existence, there has been extreme growth. UCR went through two different locations before the company purchased 5 acres of land and set up a corporate headquarters in Middlefield, CT. Soon after, an additional office was opened in Fairfield County. And still, UCR will expand operations further into Hartford and Litchfield Counties in the near future.
Even now, the state of the art 15,000 sq ft facility is at maximum capacity; for as UCR grows, so do the number of people we help.

Terrible!!! My son passed away on his bathroom floor (approximately 2 x 3 feet) and we needed to have it cleaned up. There were 3 other blood spots in apartment that needed cleaning. They were given a cell phone number to call when they arrived and didn't call. Now they're saying that they had to wait around to be let in the apartment when the person who was to let them in was there an hour. I was charged 8 hours for cleaning ($659) and $257 for personal protective equipment. We paid $500 before they would even come and the remaining bill ($416) was send approximately 2 weeks ago and now they're calling for payment. Outrageous! I wouldn't recommend them for any job!!

They came out, following remediation and provided an estimate that was artificially low and based on vastly incorrect measured dimensions, and incorrect spec'd materials. After many conversations with adjusters and the agent, we agreed to a price and separated the carpeting from the rebuilding. After two months of calling with no response to have the work initiated, we brought in our own contractor and all work was completed in three days. I would suggest that an Internet search be done before agreeing with your insurance company to use this service to see the comments that are populating various reviews. Perhaps, they have improved since since my experience, but it is in the consumer's best interest to do a deep due diligence as I was fortunate to have been frustrated by the delay and taken the time to conduct a background service check . A major word of caution for doing your homework Angie's List could NOT help me as their home office is not in my subscription area which I find becoming more problematical with Angie's List, given the regional and national proliferation of home improvement and chains with distant home and regional offices using licensees, franchisees, and sub-contractors to complete work.
Description of Work: This is for total restoration to the lover level of our house from a cracked copper waste line in the wall in early December of 2013. On the first trip, 12/11,UC&R sent two men to clean water damage done to our lower level from a cracked sewer line. The remediators were fine. This review is for their renovation division that Hanover assigned to restore all the damage and replace fixtures, carpeting and anything destroyed by sewage water. They are a tied contractor to Hanover Insurance for all restoration and replacement services and either you must use them or have your contractor meet their estimates.

Any type of damage to one's house is traumatic. Needless to say leaking water on the lowest level that is not a back up from an external sewer and can't be stopped or identified until walls are opened and specific problems addressed are especially upsetting... in all sorts of ways. We had never heard of United Cleaning and Restoration and had just come off an especially onerous relationship with Home Depot on a roof installation that was terribly handled and called for involvement by the state's attorney general's office of consumer affairs. So, it was a giant leap of faith to go with the insurance company's 800 # voice's (now a roll-up with no local agent that we know personally) recommendation. It was a pleasant surprise. They came here on Tuesday in the midst of the snowstorm that had closed all schools and most of New England. Their team, Conner and Eddy, worked all afternoon and into the night cleaning, ripping out walls, cabinets, carpeting etc. They carefully carted everything out in heavy plastic bags, storing personal items neatly. They left the dehumidifiers running and came back each day after to check, do more work and today, all was dry and ready for the plumber to repair the pipe and the restoration phase to begin. Normally, I'd have every defense mechanism up and running for the next phase of renovation, but here, I am going to ask UC&R to complete the restoration of the bath and living area based on the work of Conner and Eddy. They made this a lot less painful.
Description of Work: Opened walls surrounding bathroom on lower level, found waste pipe that had split open draining sewage from 3 bathrooms, laundry, kitchen w/ dishwasher into walls of lower bathroom and then seeping out into carpeting of living area. The split was taped over so the clean up could proceed and the plumber would be able to come back in a clean environment to replace the damaged waste pipe

This company was referred by an insurance agent. It was work for a large complex affected by Hurricane Sandy. I had heard of several problems first hand from neighbors about their work. I saw them show up to clean the crawlspaces with a wet/dry vacuum and a garden hose. The crawlspaces had been contaminated by sewage and seawater. The employees had no protective gear on. Needless to say after that some of the owners refused to let this company work on their unit and hired other companies themselves to do the work. They broke my neighbors hot water heater and tried to charge her for the new one. They would only reimburse her for the hot water heater if she signed a certificate saying she was satisfied with their work. They would not replace wet drywall in a neighbors garage even though she had bugs crawling out of her wall. Eventually after much haggling she did get it replaced. A board member had tried to contact the owner about issues with the workers during the repair of his unit but never got a return phone call.

Horrible, horrible, horrible. This is a company that get's the majority of their business through insurance companies because they offer the insurance companies a reduced rate and in turn the insurance companies give them guaranteed work. As a result, this company pumps out as much work as possible, not giving a darn about the quality of workmanship or their reputation or their client's becasue they don't need to rely on word of mouth or their performance for future jobs. From start to finish it was a series of errors, untruths, unprofessionalism and fair workmanship at best. This was an insurance claim brought on by the 2011 snowstorm and because of the severe damage to my home which was classified by the insurance company as "catastrophic", I didn't have the luxury of shopping around for a quality company. At the advice of my insurance compay, I kept a daily journal filled with notes, estimates, conversations, phone calls, emails, etc. Twice I contacted the owners of the company: Rich Naccarato, Bill Leone & Bob Sorensen to discuss the situation and to make them aware of my complaints, giving them a chance to respond. Both times they never gave me the courtesy of a reply. My main contact was Victor. He was absent, rude, disprespectful to both me and his team or workers. He constantly yelled at me, he would hang up the phone on me, later apologizing with the excuse that he's stressed. He'd call asking "what work has been done and what was remaining to be done". The electricians showed up to fix the electrical and they had no idea what they needed to do. They said Victor was supposed to meet him at the house - and as ususal, Victor was a no-show. Victor used foul language and called his superiors not such nice names. He was insanely unorganized, giving me a mariad of paperwork and contracts, so confused by it all that he asked me to straighen it out - to sign where "it looked like I needed to sign", then mail back to the office. On several occasions he called me at 9:00 pm informing me his team will show up the next day. The following morning arrives, I take time off from work and nobody shows. In total, this company made me lose 4 days of work (i didn't get paid for) where they said they'd show and they didn't. I spent hours trying to get Victor or anyone on the phone and all I get are voice mails. One day they said they needed to come to put another coat of joint compound on and would be out in an hour - they spent the entire day which yet again put me in the difficult position of having to call my employer for another day off. He wrote out lengthy notes to his crew and asked me to hand it to them and to communicate to them what needed to be done. I brought this to the attention of the office and the owners but it fell on deaf ears. The crew did not clean up after themselves - there were nails and wires and drywall dust EVERYWHERE! They left heat on in the rooms they were working, windows were left open (it's the middle of the winter), they left lights on. I had to call their attention to their countless mistakes needing repair such as globs of joint compound that had fallen onto my molding. They put holes in my wall that they never brought to my attention. They neglected to sand an entire wall of newly iinstalled drywall. The moldling they replaced was cut uneven with wide 1/2 inch gaps in the mitered corners. They cut through the wires of my security system and had the nerve to deny it and fight me on it, they were aware they did it but would not own up to it, that is until I showed them a "before" picture. Word to the wise, make sure you have before and after pictures. The office staff, Tina and Jennifer were just as bad. Tina, the person that informed me when to expect the workers relied solely on email. She assumed I sit at my computer 24/7, waiting for her to contact me when in fact I was never on my computer. I had asked her many times to please call me on my phone whenever she needed to communicate to me because i'm never on my computer - but she refused! Adding another element of inconvenience to my life. Who does that? I've never dealt w/a company that doesn't use a telephone when dealing w/customers. Do yourself a favor - stay far, far away!!!!!

They were absolutely horrible. My first contact with them was in April. I just spent my valuable time with them. I had originally called them to take care of the water damage in my home. It took forever to get an adjuster out here and then to have them take me through the estimate. In the summer they told me that they would be here by the middle of September but they never showed. I called them but they don't return phone calls. They were horrible. Once the adjuster came out it took at least one or two months to get the estimate and I had to keep calling for it. I called them because I had questions about the estimate and it took another several weeks to get the adjuster out here to take me through the estimate. They sent me a contract and it referred to an attachment that took at least two weeks for me to get. They didn't do anything nor showed up. I want other Angie's List members know that this company is absolutely awful and to never call them.

Response from United Cleaning & Restoration
Connecticut was hit with three major storms during the year. United Cleaning & Restoration services the entire state of CT and several insurance companies rely on us to service them and the insured in times of disaster. UCR received 2,000 referrals in the month of January alone and we simply did not have the manpower or resources to service everyone. We made every effort to be upfront and honest with all of our customers but it was impossible to accomodate everyone especially in a timely manner. We regret not being able to satisfy our commitment of dependable service and have begun implementing new systems and procedures that will be utilized in the future.

We didn't know United was coming to do the water mitigation until they were on their way - apparently our insurance approved the work, but no one told us. Ended up not being an issue, but struck us as odd. They billed this work directly to our insurance company, so we don't know the cost, but the estimator and the guys who did the work were very courteous and efficient. We were happy with that part of the work. Unfortunately, we then had United's construction group come out to estimate the drywall repairs. They told us it would be 1-2 weeks before we got the estimate back (not crazy considering many contractors were very busy in our area because of the amount of ice dam damage caused by the winter). However, after 2 1/2 weeks we hadn't heard, so we left messages at the office and for the estimator who had come to our house to assess the damage to see when we might get the estimate, but got no response from either one. Our job ended up being quite big, but it's now 6 weeks later and we never did hear back. So ultimately we were happy with the water mitigation group, but not so thrilled with the responsiveness of the construction group (which we understand are handled separately by the company).
Description of Work: We had significant water damage to walls and ceilings due to ice dams. United came out to do the water mitigation, which included opening walls and ceilings to dry them out. We also had them come out to provide an estimate for the repairs, but never heard back.
