very fast - had a marathon coming by the house on a Saturday morning and the tech did a great job getting it all done fast and effectively before the race started and would have been stuck for awhile. Thanks guys!

We called another service provider and were told that "they might be able to fit us in in about two weeks". Because it was 95+ deg that was unacceptable. We called Nutmeg and were told that they would have a technician by within 90 minutes. It was less. He checked the system and found a bad capacitor, added some refrigerant and made sure that it was working properly before he left. He is extremely knowledgeable and professional, explaining what the problem was. We would definitely use this company again.

Technician called prior to arriving to ensure we were home, was very friendly and quickly diagnosed/resolved the issue.

He was quite the saleman. Could sell parkas in a desert & bikinis at the north pole. He was very good explaining all the options and was honest enough to say I didn't need a furnace. I appreciated his honesty very much. So much so, I will use this company for furance cleanings and any other service they offer.

Friends of ours had a very positive experience with Nutmeg Mechanical. They had a central air conditioning system including duct work installed by Nutmeg in 2012. Our friends received great work at a decent price. So when we started looking into companies to install our system, Nutmeg was one of the first companies we called. Especially after seeing all the positive reviews on Angie's List. Our sales person (and trust me, he was a SALES person) was punctual, actually even a little early. He said that the first thing he wanted to do was sit and talk about what our needs were. I was impressed by this until we started talking. Instead of really getting any information from me, he went on for almost 45 minutes about how superior their duct work is to everyone else's. After about 3 minutes, I started balancing my checkbook in my head. Couldn't take it any more. I tried a few times to move it along, but he brought it back to their superior duct work each time. Finally, we got to discussing the system itself. No complaints with this part of the meeting. He was very thorough, took lots of measurements and went over things in detail with me to make sure we understood everything. Now comes the quote. We received the quote in a timely fashion via email. But we just received a lump sum of what the job would cost in total. I was very confused by this. I've never received a total sum quote for any job. The quote didn't even list what size unit we would be provided with, let alone anything else. When I asked for a break down of the quote, I was made to feel like I was not only crazy but a bother. In the sales person response to my request, he actually said "I've never had any one ask for a break down and I can't imagine why you would possibly want it". What?????? Now for the quote itself. As I mentioned earlier in my review, our friends used Nutmeg and were very happy with them. Our friends house is a colonial that is over 3k square feet and needed a ton of duct work. They have 4 bedrooms, 2 living room, huge kitchen, dinning room, finished basement, laundry room, etc and their job was $12,000. Our house is a 1,400 square foot ranch with one bedroom, one grand room (with dinning area, living room area and office area) kitchen and an unfinished basement that is completely open and accessible for duct work installation. Perfect for duct work actually. But our quote came back at $15,000. I was baffled by this because as I said our friend's house is much bigger, required more duct work, more work and a bigger unit, so I asked about the difference. I was just simply told it's because of their superior duct work and that I need custom duct work that cost more money. Even if that is the case .. To be at $3,000 more, even after all the stuff our friend's needed over and above what we needed???? At this point, I just ended the communication because it wasn't worth pursuing any further. Not sure why the huge difference in price and experience. Not sure if they just didn't want our job, if that's the case then just tell me. In any case, very disappointed with our over all experience and are still looking for someone to install our system. ********Update********** This review went live this morning. This afternoon I received a phone call from the owner of Nutmeg, Steve, who saw the review. Steve was very nice, very professional and genuinely wanted to do what he could to rectify the situation. Unfortunately though at this point it is too late. We are in the final negotiations with another company who came in $5k cheaper and is rated very well here on Angie's List also. I do appreciate his efforts though. If I wasn't ready to sign with someone else, I would have given him the opportunity to rectify the situation based on my interaction with him today.

Showed up on time, diagnosed the problem correctly, obtained parts and returned the next day, made helpful suggestions, and answered all of my questions.

Just bought the house over the winter and hadn't been able to try the AC, so thought it would be a good idea to have it checked out first. The technician cleaned a mouse nest out of the condenser unit, disconnected a broken humidifier, and gave an estimate on a new humidifier and installation. Also gave us some advice as newbies to central air conditioning.

Nutmeg came to our home on different occasions to discuss and determine our power needs. We also exchanged numerous phone conversations and emails. Nutmeg ordered our generator and promptly scheduled the installation. They coordinated the permits, preparation and installation, including CNG (gas) hookup. We were impressed with their entire team (e.g., their regular crew plus the electrician that they utilized and the Kohler authorized service company.) The work was performed on-schedule, professionally and very neatly.

The person who answered the call and then scheduled the service was very polite and responsive. We had a technician at the house within an hour who was able to identify the issue. He then explained the steps recommended to fix the issue and kept us informed along the way. We'd recommend Nutmeg Mechanical Services as they were very prompt, professional, and resolved the problem very satisfactorily.

It went very well. He gave a detailed explanation. They came quickly and resolved the problem quickly. They gave suggestions on how to service the unit.

Estimated job to take about 1.5 hours and $300+. Drain boiler, replace fitting and refill. Seemed expensive since parts cost was negligible. When refilling, a relief valve started to leak and quote a cost to place this at $125. When I questioned this the price dropped to the cost of the value at around $25. Entire job only took 45 minutes. That's over $300 per hour labor. Was later contacted by owner and realized that I was over charged and received prompt refund - drove over and delivered personally. Aside from initial cost, service was prompt and professional and will likely use them again

I come home to find the thermostat reading 53 degrees, not the pre-set 64 degrees. I checked the gas furnace; both the emergency and switch on the furnace were on and the pilot light lit. I consulted Angies list and called Nutmeg Mechanical. Ed was promised to be here by 3 PM. He arrived @ 1:30! Ed quickly got to work and found the safe ground switch needing replacement. He called up his parts store, got the part and put it in. Voila! Heat! The whole process took about 2 hrs. The price included a 15% discount for Angie List members.

The project went as planned. The old heating system was removed. The duct work was completely re-sized as needed and sealed. The new Geo-Thermo Heating and Cooling system was installed. After several days of operation they returned to make sure everything was operating properly. We are very happy with the system and with the professionalism of all of the people from Nutmeg Mechanical.

Exellent service

Overall great service. The cleaning was done on 12/20/12 was told we needed a belt. The service tech tighned belt because he did not have one for our furnace. He also did not have filters because he did not have furnace info. It turned out we did not need to replace the filters because they looked fine. He arrived exactly on time and was very efficient. The same tech returned to fix the furnace on 1/4/13. Furnace was not going on. He had to drive to groton to pick up the part needed to repair the furnace. He returned quickly and repaired the furnace. Very happy with my service and will use Nutmeg mechanical for all my furnace and a/c cleanings.

The estimate was provided by Dave, who was very knowledgeable in geo, and who had worked through several conversions already. As finding someone with experience was very difficult in this area, we were most impressed by his thoughtful approach. He borrowed our blueprints, measured all the rooms, reviewed our systems, and then put together a comprehensive plan for the conversion, explaining all the various options along the way. Then he brought over the owner for a final meeting to put the whole plan together and answer any questions we might have. When they showed up to begin work, they put plastic film on all the carpet pathways and wore over booties to protect our floors. This despite our two dogs tracking in mud everywhere. They showed exceptional respect for our needs and provided professional expertise in every way. Changes in the plan were handled promptly and fairly. The conversion went exceptionally well. there were no snags at all. Wells were dug on time, tests were planned, done and inspected by the town and the work progressed quickly. For the first time in many a project, there were no surprises. No padding of the bills and no shoddy work. I love going to the basement and attic just to look at the beautiful job and the heat and a/c are working beautifully. The solar hot water is proving to be very efficient. Really love the job they did and will use them again for any upcoming projects we may conceive.

d and if needed were Nutmeg came to repair a condition whereby my 25 year old central air conditioning system was barely providing any cooling. This was after another contractor had come twice in the previous year without being able to effect a lasting repair. Nutmeg patiently explained to me all the possible causes of my problem and how they would go about determining the cause. They said that after making the repair, they would return in 48 hours to recheck the repair. Since their repair, the air conditioning system has worked flawlessly through the entire season.

The work was done quickly, and the installers were polite and clean. Everything was fine initially, until I called them back a few weeks later to look at an air return that was making a lot of noise. They told me it was an easy fix, and they would be back to take care of it. After a bit of voicemail tag, they came over, readjusted the air handler, and now the system barely makes a peep.

We decided not to do the work at this time.

We called Nutmeg along with two others to take a look at our furnace after our old furnace was completely unusable and we were completely without hot water. While it is summer, we didn't need heat, but we were without hot water so it was a bit of a rush. Dave from Nutmeg came in and spent a good amount of time surveying the system and our home to get a clear idea of what we actually needed and was able to answer our questions and explain what he thought we should do. He got us a quote back in a short amount of time with two options. We negotiated the options and were able to come up with a plan that met our needs and Dave was able to rearrange jobs to make our job a priority since he knew we were living without hot water. The day we signed the PO, he had the equipment dropped off at our house and his team showed up at our house the next day at 7:30 to start the job!. They were professional and cleaned up after themselves at the end of the day. Most of all they all worked late making sure that they didn't leave until we had hot water that night. The next day, they showed up to finish the job. We could not have been more pleased with this company and I would highly recommend them. They were a little more expensive but they were the only company that actually seemed to care about us as a customer and the professionalism they showed was far superior to the other vendors we had tried to work with. Dave, the salesman, was very knowledgable and we felt very comfortable with him. Eric was one of the technicians on site and he was a true professional that was a joy to work with.

This was my second dealing with Nutmeg Mechanical Services, and I continue to be impressed. The two techs I've met have each been courteous, competent, professional, prompt and clean--- a winning combination in my opinion. Today, the whole process took almost three hours, because the leak identification was more complex than anticipated. The tech called his supervisor to get other, less-critical jobs rescheduled so that he could stay until my problem was fixed. The supervisor approved the tech staying, so my job is now complete and I am a happy customer. I was impressed that the tech didn't just repair the leak, but he identified the root cause of the leak (friction, caused by a capillary tube rubbing against another component for several years), and then did his best to eliminate that root cause for other similar tubes.

I called them at 8:30am and told them my central AC was not working. I described the issue and the lady said that someone would be out around 2pm. The service guy showed up about 5 minutes before 2, asked a few questions, checked it out and knew exactly what to fix. He was done and gone by 2:30. He replaced the motor for the fan. He showed me the price book for the part and they charged me the $75 service fee as explained on the phone. He was very pleasant and I could tell he knew what he was doing.

I joined Angie's List today after being frustrated by the lack of responsiveness from another air conditioning service company who, after being called Friday morning, had promised to show up yesterday or today (Tuesday), but didn't, and still couldn't tell me where I was on their waiting list. I wanted an alternative and found Nutmeg Mechanical Services to be among the highly recommended service providers on Angie's List. I called Nutmeg around 1:25pm and described my problem. By 1:55 a technician was at my house. Low Freon was the problem. He added 3 lbs of Freon and inserted a dye to help locate any leaks in the future. As I write this, it's 2:38, so within one hour of initiating a phone call, my problem has been solved. Nutmeg has another extremely happy customer.

A++ Experience !!Yesterday it was 97 degrees --- last night 80 degrees in the house. The A/C unit turned on, but was blowing ambient air. 6/21/12 -- At 7:25a.m. I called and left a message at Nutmeg Mechanical. Within 10 minutes Kim returned my call. She stated she could have someone here by noon, perhaps earlier, that she'd call to keep me posted. (I was pleased to have someone come out the same day in this heat!) A short time later Kim called to say the technician would be here in 45 minutes. Joe arrived around 9:15, found a capacitor that required replacement, took the time to show me preventive maintenance and was out the door before 10:30. I'm not sure that it can get any better than that! They have a customer for life and I will send everyone I know, their way. Thank you Kim and Joe, you are Awesome!!

Mike came in with his crew and did a fantastic job. We have no complaints. The geothermal system is up and running very smoothley. We are sure if any more problems come up, we can depend on them for their fast and great service.
