He did an excellent job in the hall, and bedroom and spot paint in the living room. The living room floor came right up again after being stapled. However the Bathroom needed a new tile floor, which I supplied, a new vanity, sink and medicine cabinet (which I supplied) and patching wall behind the bathtub (shower) and painting (I supplied the paint the whole room. He arrived 4/18/15 to start the bathroom - in a very bad mood because he said I was pressuring him! Then he saw that the vanity was shipped and not put together yet. He said he couldn't be held responsible for putting it together. I should send it back to Home Depot and pay them to put it together - then let him know and he would come back! My son put it together that night in 30 minutes and I notified him the next day. He emailed me back that he was busy for the next two weeks. Then we found out my husband had to start chemo and I contacted Oliver Beer 6/8/15 to see if he would please try to do the bathroom before he started his treatments. He replied, sorry to hear about your husband. I'm still a couple of weeks out. If you find someone else to do it it would be fine. I never heard from Oliver again! I paid him 1/2 of $2,650 on his first day and got 1/3 of the work done. I am still hoping to find someone to finish this bathroom, but will never contact Oliver Beer again. He is not true to his word.
Description of Work: We had a contract on 3/24/15 for him to Repair hardwood floor in liv rm, spot paint ceiling, hall stairs prime, patch and paint, Bedroom spot painting ceiling. That was the 1st part of the contracts and he did this on 4/12/15. However the major part of the repair - the bathroom he never did!

Response from Bauhaus Construction
We were contacted by the member on March 14, 2015 to provide an estimate for water damage to walls, ceiling, floor and installing border tiles around the tub surround of a very small bathroom. Upon our arrival, the member also inquired as to if we could plaster, tape and paint the seams in the hallway of her residence which is a split level and make them disappear as well as painting a bedroom ceiling which also had water damage. In addition to the 5' x 4' tile floor work that she requested, she also asked to have the medicine cabinet, vanity and light fixture in the bathroom replaced and provide a fresh coat of paint following the installation. We advised the member to go to Home Depot or Lowes as they have a large variety of ready assembled vanities to which she agreed. We also asked her to pick the tiles. We advised her that we would provide her with an estimate and explained that we had some time to complete the repairs for the water damage and painting, and that the work on the bathroom could be done at a later date. After the member agreed on the price and secure a formal estimate, we anticipated starting the job immediately. The member informed us that they were going to be away on an extended vacation and that we could start after their return. They also advised that the tiles and vanity had to be ordered and would not arrive until after they had returned. On April 14th, when we started the job, we explained to the member that due to the delay and outline, that we only had time to complete the first part of the job and that the bathroom would need to wait, as we had other signed contracts. The member agreed on the same. Upon completion of the painting the member paid us $1280.00 which was for half of the contracted job of $2560.00. The remaining half would have been due upon the completion of the bathroom. Both projects had an estimated duration of 3 business days (1 1/2 days per project). A couple of days after finishing the painting, the member contacted us to inquire as to when we were going to finish the bathroom. We advised her of our initial agreement and that we would complete the project in the late Summer. Her response was asking for us to let her know, to which we agreed. The following week the member again contacted us again asking when we could complete the bathroom. After the 2nd e-mail, we decided to complete the bathroom earlier than we had agreed upon. At the time of our arrival we inspected the previous work including the floor and the member expressed complete satisfaction. We then proceeded to inspect the materials, to ensure that everything was completely on site before beginning the installation. We looked for the vanity and asked the member where it was, to which she advised that it was in the garage and had to be put together. We explained that we were not able to complete the project at this time due to this product and asked her to return the item and purchases an item that we had originally discussed. She responded that it was not a good time anyway as her husband had several appointments scheduled in the coming days. We asked to go back to our original agreement and complete the bathroom at a later date. The next day she e-mailed us to advise that her son had assembled the cabinet and that it was already to go. We advised the member that we were not available as we were back at a previous job, but that as soon as we had time we would go out to complete the bathroom. Several days later we received another email indicating that the bathroom needed to be done immediately, as her husband had to undergo chemo therapy. We again explained that we were busy, as we were committed to a prior projects. The member asked if she should find someone else to finish the bathroom, to which we responded that it would be fine. We also advised her that we hope that her husband is feeling better.

Oliver Beer, owner of Bauhaus Construction, is a most extraordinary craftsman who absolutely refuses to quit or compromise until he has finally gotten to the bottom of a problem and solved it to his satisfaction -- which means to perfection. He is able to "think outside the box" and come up with truly ingenious, innovative strategies to fix situations that others in his field would have deemed un-fixable. For instance, he has devised a unique method of placing thin copper strips over certain difficult-to-waterproof areas that would otherwise remain extremely vulnerable to moisture damage -- but with the copper, are well-protected. It seems not to matter how much work the repair requires, when he sees a flaw or defect he will continue to investigate it and work on it until he is finally satisfied that it is absolutely perfect. We were so grateful that Mr. Beer was willing and able to tackle the deteriorated, shabby-looking areas of our house and actually make them look new. His work is meticulous and, at least in our experience, his expertise and skill is without peer. We could not recommend this remarkable company more highly.
Description of Work: Extensive reconstruction of deteriorated kitchen windows, two entryway doors, basement hatchway, damaged sheetrock, outside box housing electrical system, and various other defects requiring a high degree of skill and creativity for their solution.

It went fabulous and they were fabulous! They came on time, they contact us with every bit of information we needed, they came in with the price the quoted, they priced us very well when we wanted to add a few extra things on to the job and they had alot of integrity. I would just highly recommend them to anyone and I will continue to use them for other projects.
Description of Work: They had to reconstruct our garage. The foundation was originally built on sand so the garage was coming off the house and slowly sinking. It was a huge job.

My wife called for an estimate on the addition of a half bath to our house in West Hartford. The individual she spoke to said that he wouldn't come do an estimate and said over the phone that it would be $20k. He said that getting permits in West Hartford were annoying to do and didn't want to come look at the space. My wife asked how he could give a price having never seen the house or the work we wanted done. He said if she really wanted him to come out then he would but the price wouldn't change, he then stated he would call back in a week and we have never heard from him again. Awful service, lack of professionalism and a total waste of time to even contact these people.

This member’s wife contacted us regarding an addition to their existing residence. I never spoke with the member, so his statements are entirely hearsay, as I spoke only with his wife. When I spoke with the member’s wife I explained that her that the West Hartford Building Department is very particular, requiring building permits as well as architectural engineering plans given this was an addition to a house that was built in 1923. I have worked with the West Hartford Building Department and have a very good working relationship with them. I never stated anything to the effect that this member is representing. Based on the information provided by the customer, I gave her an approximate cost. I did explain that I would be willing to come out and review their project. It was agreed that I would come by on a Friday and that I would call her on the Wednesday to confirm. I did call on the Wednesday, left a message, and never heard back from the member’s wife.

Oliver quickly responded to my request for a quotation, and followed up with a complete and accurate estimate, He began the work promptly, and was flexible in adding in extra time needed to complete additional tasks that came up during the process. Oliver was consistent in his communication around the scope and schedule for the project, and was a pleasure to deal with!

If you are a working individual True Blue is a company who can accommodate your hours.
Description of Work: I am going to try my best to leave the most "fact-based' review as possible. I first contacted the provider on Angie's list on February 17th in the AM. I provided three dates that could work for getting a quote on the construction that I needed. I received a very prompt reply back on the 17th to contact the company via phone or email to schedule a time for a quote. At 4:15PM on the 17th, my cell phone history shows I made a call lasting 73 seconds trying to contact Oliver. I waited for a response. On February 19th, I get a message from Oliver on Angie's list stating that he hoped I found a contractor. Clearly he must not have gotten my voicemail. That's okay. No big deal. I email him within an hour and tell him that I called and left a message and I absolutely want his services. I then followup by making a phone call. He picks up promptly. He asks when I would be available. I told him I work and there is no one else in my household. That I would love to get a quote if he could accommodate the quote in an evening or weekend. He said that he was busy but he would call me early this week to schedule a time. I sent him an email on the morning of the 23rd (Monday) asking again when we could schedule a quote. He calls my cell phone at 12:49PM. I was in a meeting and couldn't answer the phone. Then at 2:05PM (still in meeting), I get this email from him: "AnupaI never received a voice message from you we spoke on the 19 for the first time and I offered you to come on the 20 you said it doesn't work for you and I told you I will call you this week to let you know when I'm available Unfortunately I signed a job over the weekend which will take several weeks so I'm not able to help you out as soonest you need it I wish you the best of luck I know there are very good company's on angies list Sincerely Oliver." That's about as factual as I can be. Take it for what its worth.

This member contacted us through the Angie’s List Message Center on February 17, 2015 with the following request: “I am new to the Connecticut area. I've lived in Houston, Chicago, Minneapolis and have never had trouble finding a good, quality contractor. Unfortunately, MANY of my experiences here in West Hartford have been literally horrendous. I hired floors to be refinished and it was a botched job. After lots of negotiating we got him to redo the floors. He wrecked the trim in the process. We hired someone to redo the trim and baseboards. Some of it looks okay. The rest looks like they just installed quarter round to the existing baseboard. I'm still so very unhappy with the work. Unfortunately, I'm one of those suckers that never leaves reviews and always pays. Please please please be my winner. I'm crossing every finger and toe. I had a shitty kitchen tile job done. We couldn't get the door to the basement or garage to open because of the additional height. So my boyfriend sawed part of the door to allow it to swing, but the threshold is all wrong. The whole dang threshold (maybe a new door, maybe a new frame) needs to be redone. I also have a window sill and stair that was chewn off by the dog. The sill needs to be replaced. Maybe the stair can be touched up with the stain (I still have it). I have three doors to bedrooms that do not match the rest (old owner replaced only a few of the doors). I'd like the work to be done fairly soon. Please let me know if you can get me a quote. I'd like the job to be done sometime soon. The draft from the doors is getting to be too much.” We responded to the member’s message the same day, providing her with our contact information, so that we could set up a date and time to go over her project. On February 19th we sent the member a follow up message, as a courtesy, asking if she was able to find someone to complete her job, as she had not contacted us. The same day, the member called us later in the afternoon, at which time we attempted to set up an appointment for the following day, which was a Saturday. She told us that we would not be available on the weekend. The member asked if we could come the following week. We told her that we were not certain, but that we would let her know how our schedule looks in order to accommodate her availability. On Monday, February 23rd, we contacted the member after receiving her e-mail to let her know of the change on our end. Over the weekend we had signed a job that we had been working on and in which the customer needed us to start immediately. As she was not available, we responded to her e-mail that is posted above in her review. We wish the member the best of luck with her projects.

Within a few hours of purchasing the deal, Oliver contacted me via email to set up date and time to meet. I contacted him by email and phone and we set a time to meet within 2 weeks of purchasing the deal. We met on 1/16/15 to go over work that needed to be completed. He arrived on time and explained the process he would use for each job on my to do list. He was able to do the work starting the following Tuesday (1/20) and completed the 22 hrs by Thursday (1/22). Oliver did a fine job and used his time efficiently. While paint was drying, he was working on the other jobs on my list and took breaks only to eat his lunch. He put up plastic sheeting around work areas to minimize the amount of saw dust and joint compound dust from getting into the rest of the house. He provided some of materials needed for the job and charged me $75 while I provided the paint that I wanted. He recommended that I purchase the contractor Benjamin Moore paint, which I did and it saved me $15/gallon of paint (total of $30). At every step of the way, Oliver explain what he was going to and why. He answered all the questions I had, has a very good work ethic, and delivers a high quality result. My husband and I are pleased with the work he did and would hire him again for other jobs that need to be done.
Description of Work: Signed up for the Angie's List Deal of the day for 2hrs of project consulting and 22 hrs of contracted labor. Oliver Beer, owner of Bauhaus Construction, sanded walls and ceiling of our dining room that had been previously repaired after wallpaper removal and popcorn removal; patched minor defects in ceiling and wall corners; secured baseboards to walls with screws; caulked all window and door trim, crown molding, and baseboards; primed and painted (2 coats) walls, ceiling, trim, and crown molding using one color for ceiling, another color for walls, and another color for trim and crown molding; in addition, Oliver prepared baseboards and painted them with 2 coats of enamel spray paint; repaired kitchen door jamb; insulated bay window with foam insulation; sanded trim and steps of stairway in preparation for staining and painting.

This member contacted us on Thursday, January 22, 2015 with a request for hanging 30 sheets of drywall in the kitchen at his residence in Manchester. We scheduled a meeting for Sunday, January 25th at 10 am to review the project. That same evening the member called again to set up an appointment for the same project, at which time we advised him that we had spoken earlier and already had an appointment scheduled for Sunday. On the evening of Saturday, January 24th, he called to cancel the Sunday appointment and indicated that he would contact us on Monday to reschedule. It was then on Wednesday, January 28th that the member contacted us and left a message indicating that he would only be available until 4 PM that afternoon. It should be noted that on Wednesday, we were cleaning out from Blizzard Juno, so we were not able to return his call immediately, but did so and set up an appointment for later that day at 3 PM. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to locate the address the member had provided, we contact him to advise that there was no such street in Manchester. We even asked the member to confirm an adjoining street to which he did not respond. He again confirmed and reconfirmed this non-existent address. The member was curt with us and stated that it was the address that he had provided and disconnected the line. We again attempted to locate the address in Manchester without any success. This member never contacted us after we had reached out to him to reconfirm the address. We searched our records and confirmed that no further messages were received from this member. The only message he left was on Wednesday morning at the cell phone requesting an appointment before 4pm. We wish this member the best of luck with his project.

This is a continuation of the work I commented on in a previous report Oliver removed and disposed of the rotting pressure treated planking. He shored up the foundation beneath the porch which was done incorrectly when the home was built. The pillars were not supporting the roof over the porch. Instead, the entire roof of the porch which is over 20 feet and supported by the posts going from the garage to the home - not a very secure way to support the roof over the porch. Oliver installed supports beneath the three pillars and then began the process of installing the mahogany planking. The planking is an one-inch thick and over eight feet long. Oliver made sure the planking was absolutely straight and went back several times to the lumber yard to return and have replaced planking he felt did not meet his exacting standards. He installed the planking in a staggered manner to limit the number of seams where the planking is joined. Each plank was bolted beneath the planking - not nailed - to present a perfectly smooth surface. The porch is a smooth and straight as possible and absolutely beautiful. I was in the Navy and the planking reminded me of the planking on-board the battleship Missouri's quarterdeck. Thus far, the work is very impressive and worth the cost since Oliver investing considerable time and effort to ensure the job was done properly and perfectly. I attribute the quality of Oliver's work to his old-world work ethic and attention to detail, He is a true craftsman and I would recommend him for any job that needs a professional touch.
Description of Work: Continuing work on replacing my entire front porch flooring. The original wood was pressure treated and began to rot, became uneven and splintered. The porch also began to sag and look shabby. Oliver is in the process of completing installation of mo mahogany planking. He has almost completed the job; but it is beginning to look absolutely beautiful. My next door neighbor came by to observe the work and remarked at how beautiful the planking looked and how the job - once completed - will make our porch "the envy of the neighborhood." This all in addition to the previous work performed on the cabinets and caulking of all windows in the house that I commented on earlier.

Oliver Beer is a true professional and takes complete pride in his workmanship. He brings old-world skill and his attention to detail is not only a rare commodity but a truly remarkable trait not found in most contractors. Oliver went from cupboard to cupboard and replaced about over 100 hinges that were originally installed by the manufacturer. The hinges had plastic components that were used to keep tension on the cupboard doors when you opened or closed them. Over time the plastic components began to snap and break that resulted in no tension for the cabinet doors. Consequently, when you closed the cabinet doors they did not stay closed. Oliver purchased and installed quality hinges with metal contents that controlled tension on the cabinet doors. He also aligned all the cabinet doors so they were perfectly straight and true - a remarkably beautiful job. After he completed work on the cabinets, he commenced work on caulking all the windows in the house. The result was immediate. We could feel the heat remain in the family room, dining room, kitchen and piano rooms. What a difference! Oliver also took the time to clean-up after himself and ensure none of he caulk got on the curtains and curtain rods. Tomorrow he will be working on the second-floor windows. We can't wait to feel the result of his work. Our heating and cooling bills will certainly go down as a result of Oliver's fine workmanship. We have had Oliver perform Oliver started to rebuild our front porch and we will submit a report including photos when the job is completed.

Oliver is a master craftsman, pure and simple. When I met with Oliver for the quote, I explained to him my plan to open up my small kitchen by breaking through the wall to my dining room. Oliver was absolutely willing to perform this job but shared with me his concerns, specifically that I would not likely see a high return on that renovation. He suggested an alternative option and I am so grateful I listened! Frankly, I find it really refreshing that a contractor would talk a prospective client away from a more costly renovation, but this is the character of Oliver Beer. He is a genuinely honest man. Every step of the way, Oliver was present and made certain every stage was completed perfectly before moving on to the next. He is incredibly detail oriented and an absolute perfectionist. Every one of his contracted employees was timely, polite and the site was cleaned up every evening without fail. I was so impressed with the quality of Oliver's work that I added many additional projects (central air and the exterior gate) that were not part of my original budget. These additional projects were not pushed on me, rather I initiated the additional work once I saw the professionalism of Oliver's team. When it came time to select cabinetry, quartz countertops and backsplash, Oliver's innate sense of style was a Godsend! I was adamant about white cabinetry but I struggled to pull together "the look" I wanted. I was so overwhelmed by the choices and colors for the quartz and tile backslashes, not to mention light fixtures. Oliver listened well to my requests and ultimately sent several pictures of possibilities, which really helped me to narrow down and focus on specifically "the look" I was after. Now that this project is complete, I will never turn over my home to anyone other than Oliver Beer. Soon, I'll be starting another project with him to remodel one full bathroom. After this, I'll ask him to do updates on the second floor baths and bedrooms, including new carpets and painting. Whatever your remodeling needs, Oliver is the man to call!
Description of Work: Gutted/remodeled kitchen, added hardwood in kitchen, sanded, stained and polyurethane to remaining existing hardwood on first floor including LR, DR hall and 2 bedrooms, new ceilings for all first floor rooms, painted entire first floor, new doors and hardware throughout. He installed central air and purchased and installed the first floor lighting. On exterior of house, Oliver installed a post and fence and door leading to the driveway.

The concrete and construction workers were conscientious, hard-working, and very thorough. 1). STONE WALL: They excavated, moved, and cut stones and boulders from our property to install a stone wall approx. 30' long. This included a base footing under the wall, installing processed stone, and a 4" drain along the back side of the wall. 2). FIELD STONE SIDEWALK: Installed a flat field stone sidewalk, including steps, by removing top soil and creating a sub base. Installed 4" of processed stone base and installed landscape fabric before laying stone and filing in with stone dust. 3). CONNECTED DOWN SPOUTS TO YARD DRAINS: Excavated and installed drain pipes from down spouts to yard. 4). RENOVATED EXISTING BARN FLOOR: Renovated our existing barn flooring by installing 4" of stone dust and compacting it. Dug out approx. 24" around the pump for the water supply inside the barn and Installed stone for water to drain down. Installed 6" paver stones around the stone area. 5). Installed 4" pvc pipe from barn down spout to concrete drain box in paddock, including back filing and grading. The entire job was completed in approximately one week. The clean up was amazing as every area was graded smoothly and the lawn was raked with top soil and seeded. It was our pleasure doing work with this construction company.
Description of Work: Mr. Beer completed an sunroom addition to our home in December 2013. In the spring of 2014, we wanted to finish the exterior grounds around the new sunroom addition with a new patio and walkway leading to a new deck which had also been re-done with the addition. Oliver and his team were friendly, personable, punctual and very professional. We were very very happy with the whole project and quality of the work! Our positive experience began when Oliver went to bat for us with our insurance company. Our insurance company had been very helpful and forthcoming, but had only approved 2 coats of poly for refinishing our hardwood floors. Oliver explained that 3 coats is a minimum for quality work. We had no idea, but with Oliver's help, our insurance company approved 3 coats, which frankly did make a big difference in the outcome. Oliver was very punctual and communicative. His friendly demeanor and personable conversation made the work during the project very pleasant. He and his team arrived on time each day and would get straight to work. They were efficient, respectful and trustworthy, and cleaned up very nicely after their work each day. (They even cleaned up and threw away disposable coffee cups that I had left out!) He and his team worked around our schedule and were very accommodating. The quality of work was excellent. The walls that had been damaged by water and that required drywall repair and new insulation looked new after Oliver finished with them. He upgraded the pipe insulation and now we have peace of mind that we won't face the same problem in the future. Likewise, his team did an exceptional job with our hardwood floors. They sanded and refinished the entire floor, and it looks simply stunning. We really appreciated the attention to detail on all fronts. (They even sealed off our kitchen cabinets/fridge to prevent fumes or dust from getting into our food storage.) In the course of the work, Oliver replaced our old, worn washing machine hoses, at no additional cost to us, just because he notices these details and wants to leave things in better order than he found them. Additionally, he was able to include sanding and refinishing our hardwood stairs within the cost covered by our insurance company. Oliver and his team did high quality work while making the whole process as easy and pleasant as possible for us. They went above and beyond what was originally discussed, and during the each step of the project, Oliver would check in with us to be sure we were happy with the work as it progressed. We highly recommend Oliver and his team!
Description of Work: We had water damage in several walls and our hardwood floor due to two pipes which had frozen and burst over the winter, as well as a large hole in the drywall where the pipes were repaired. Oliver repaired the drywall/insulation and treated and sealed and painted all of the affected walls. His team also sanded and refinished our entire hardwood floor, which covers the first floor of our house. We were exceptionally pleased with all of the work.

The work was done well and all the recommendations on the builders part were excellent. The price was very reasonable although I paid for all the materials which are not included in the quoted price. I purchased the vanity tops, one vanity, tiles and grout (about $2000). Anything under $5000 for the refurbishment of 2 bathrooms is very reasonable. There were some minor issues like toilet paper holder and door hooks not re-installed that required additional work on my part upon completion. I didn't realize these things had not been done until after signing off on the project. There were a few moments of mis-communication during the project. I thought by picking out floor tile it had been ordered, but it was not actually ordered pending contact with the tile installer verifying the amount needed. Also I asked to have the vanity picked up by the builder not knowing this would cause him difficulties. He was quite upset by this, which was unfortunate because if I had understood this I could have had the vanity delivered causing a few days delay in the beginning of the project.
Description of Work: Prepared 2 bathrooms for tile and vanity installation, installed vanity, and worked as general contractor for bathroom redesigns.

We are glad to hear that this member was satisfied with the job that we performed in updating her two bathrooms. We apologize for forgetting to install the toiled paper hold and robe hook. There was a lot of activity taking place at her residence, during the bathroom renovations. Had the member contacted us, we would have rectified the issue immediately by reinstalling the pieces. As for the miscommunication, on the day that we went for the initial estimate, we provide the member with a material list for each bathroom. We had agreed that she would order the tiles and we would in turn pick them up. On the day that we went to pick up the tiles, the company told us that they had been unable to place the order, as the member had not provided them with the required measurements. She later told me that she had misplaced the measurements and was under the assumption that the tiles had been ordered. As a result the member ended up traveling to the tile companies warehouse to pick up the tiles. As for the issue with the vanity, we would like to point out that our contract clearly stated that the member was to supply the materials. When the member told us that the vanity had come in, we assumed that it had been delivered to her residence. On the day of the installation, I asked the member where the vanity was, to which she responded that it was at the store ready for pick up. As we were not aware that we would need to pick up the vanity, we had not anticipated the need for assistance, which was required due to its size. As I did not have assistance at the time and due to the fact that the member did not want any delays, she did help me bring the vanity up to the 2nd floor, for which I was greatly appreciative.

I requested an est. to have 4 basement windows replaced. Oliver the owner responded and came within 2 days to give me an estimate and hired him to do the replacements. Due to the fact I was having other work done on the house he came on Fathers Day to do the job. He explained what he had done painted what needed to be painted cleaned up. I could not be happier. He always kept in touch either my e mail or phone. He will be doing a couple of other projects for me. This was a great experience and the work is excellent.

The entire experience went EXTREMELY well. I chose this company after reading many positive reviews on Angie's List and I am so glad that I made this choice. I initially contacted Mr. Oliver Beer via his website. He promptly called me back and we set up an initial appointment. He arrived on time and spent at least an hour with me inspecting the current deck & supporting structure, discussing options, offering suggestions, etc. I initially was thinking of going with a composite type of decking and vinyl railing, but Oliver actually steered me towards a more economical option. It's a rare thing to find a home contractor with such integrity. I appreciated his honesty and his willingness to share his wealth of home improvement & construction knowledge. Additionally, he is very outgoing, personable and polite, and I felt very comfortable establishing a working relationship with him. To prepare his estimate, Oliver really did his homework. He took pictures of the current structure and sent them off to his lumber contact for review. By collaborating with that contact, they determined that there could possibly be an issue with the posts supporting the three season room adjacent to the deck. Although the three season room wasn't intended to be a factor in the project, Oliver was concerned that demolishing and rebuilding the current deck could potentially impact the integrity of the three season room. He then took the initiative to go to the town hall and look up the prior building permits on my house. He also spoke with the building inspector and had him come to my house to review the current structure. He did all of this leg work even before I had signed a written contract with him. Because he was so diligent and meticulous in this upfront research it was determined that the current deck was not built to code. The building inspector suggested modifications to the plan to ensure that the current cement pilings would be replaced and that the current three season room posts would be replaced or reinforced. Oliver promptly adjusted the estimate to accommodate these additional steps. I was very impressed that Oliver went the extra mile to perform this research and to seek out the building inspector. Once again, I was impressed with his thoroughness, honesty & integrity. After signing the contract and giving him a deposit, the materials quickly arrived. The contract included an estimated start date & Oliver anticipated that it would be a 3 business day job. The weather cooperated and his two-man crew (Scott & Joe) were able start on time. It was a pleasure meeting Scott & Joe. They, too, are very personable and polite and work very hard. Their craftsmanship is excellent and they always thoroughly cleaned up the work site. The demolition of the old deck and pouring the new cement pilings took 1 day. After a few days of rain, the crew was back and spent 2 additional days to complete the job. Just as Oliver had said --- a total of 3 days. Throughout the project (from the initial meeting to the end of the job) Oliver always kept me apprised of the progress being made either through email, texts or phone calls. He has great follow through and always meets his commitments. It was a pleasure doing business with someone who is so professional and has such a strong work ethic. I look forward to working with Oliver and team on future home improvement projects.
Description of Work: Demolished 20-year-old deck & stairs on the back of my raised ranch. Rebuilt a new deck & stairs with pressure-treated wood (including new cement pilings). Also replaced a warped support post under the 3-season room attached to the deck and reinforced two other support posts under that room.

Oliver and his team did a fantastic job ? the basement was completely transformed into a part of our home that feels integrated into the other floors, whereas previously it felt outdated and completely alien to the rest of the house. Oliver discovered a series of issues/problems behind the original wallpaper and wall paneling (see photos), and the Bauhaus team addressed those issues once and for all in a way that was seamless with the rest of the project. Oliver is a perfectionist (which we appreciated), but he was also very sensitive to our concerns about increased costs associated with these surprise issues, and worked hard to keep the additional costs as low as possible. In the end, we ended up paying approximately $2k above the original estimate for a full overhaul of the electrical and almost a week of additional work on the walls. Oliver also worked closely with us to identify the kind of environmentally-friendly materials that we wanted while also making sure we got ceiling tiles, carpeting, paint etc. that were appropriate for a basement, and would last and look good. The job was done in a 100% professional manner ? the job site was cleaned up every day, Oliver and the team showed up on time every day of the job, and he communicated with us often about the progress of the project and expected completion. The outcome (see attached pictures) speaks for itself ? the project was a huge success. We will definitely work with Bauhaus again and would recommend them to friends and family.
Description of Work: Bauhaus completed a total rehab of our partially finished basement – new walls, ceiling tiles, carpeting, carpentry, electric – and added several modern features (got rid of a popcorn ceiling in one room, added columns around pilings, added a cabinet around our electrical boxes, moved fixtures and switches to where they made sense).

He (I don't remember his name and he never gave us a card) came to the house after work, we discussed what we wanted for the kitchen, we had a definite idea. we emailed him the plans and the measurements while he was still there. He told us he would get back to us right away, well that was several weeks ago, and still nothing waiting and waiting and then began trashing other companies products. Not good customer business would not recommend at all

This member contacted us for a kitchen remodel in late March. We responded the following day to set up a time for an estimate. As of our arrival the member showed us a kitchen design he had in mind on his cell phone, that we had a hard time reading it at first. We never told the member that he would have an estimate provided immediately. He was advised that we would get back to him. Our Kitchen Designer was working on the estimate for the member as well as other estimates. We also had an unforeseen personal situation which resulted in us not responding earlier. As to the point that we "... trashed other companies products", we mentioned to the member that we have had difficulties in the past with brand name companies. Cabinets would occasionally arrive on the job site damaged. This resulted in delays of several weeks for the items to be replaced. This lead to delays in the overall project and unhappy clients. We since decided to fabricate our own cabinets locally in Connecticut, which has resolved any issues. We apologize for the delay with the member. We wish the member the best of luck with his project.

I emailed Oliver around 6 am on a Sunday morning detailing our situation. 3 burst pipes in our family room above the garage that had saturated the family room and ruined the walls and ceiling in garage. I was concerned about the temperatures in the single digits and wanted to get someone out as soon as possible to start the work after servpro had removed all the damage. He called me within 2 hours and met with us at 1 pm that day. Oliver has been very responsive throughout the project. I was very impressed with his prompt communication. I have had many experiences with contractors not responding to phone calls, let alone emails. I prefer to email and he would always respond within a day, but usually within hours. All the work was done exactly as we had asked. He had carpet samples delivered to the house so I didn't have to go to the showroom to shop. When I couldn't find what I wanted in the original samples, a new batch were also delivered. He and his crew were professional and cleaned up after themselves. The timing of the work was sometimes difficult because of the cold weather but all was completed in a reasonable time frame. I wouldn't hesitate to contact him for future projects.
Description of Work: Replaced drywall and ceiling for 3/4 of my garage after water damage. Painted walls, popcorn ceiling, repaired family room popcorn ceiling, painted walls and ceiling (800sf room) and replaced carpet in family room.

We met with Mr. Beer in May of 2013 to discuss an addition to our existing home which we envisioned to be a four season room. We had an existing deck on the south facing side of our home and wanted to keep part of the existing deck for outdoor usage but also have a four season room built where the existing deck was in order to enjoy the outdoors and the views all year long. Mr. Beer understood our vision and agreed to perform the work. He soon brought in an architect who incorporated our vision(s), along with his knowledge of building do's and dont's, and the concept was born onto paper which became a reality for us. The work began in the fall of 2013 and the bulk of it was completed by the holidays. Having worked with Mr. Beer on this project I cannot imagine having anyone else do the work. Mr. Beer is a consummate professional who will except nothing less than exceptional work. He is a perfectionist in the most perfunctory way and I felt very comfortable letting him make decisions on things I had no prior knowledge of. The tradesmen he brought in to complete each phase of the work were all skilled craftsmen who evidently enjoy their occupations in addition to working with Mr. Beer. This project took many weeks to complete. Many times we had craftsmen, and Mr. Beer himself, working at our home on weekends and evenings in order to finish a phase of the building process so that another phase could begin. This dedication to the craft of construction is what gives Mr. Beer, Bauhaus Construction, and the work of his tradesmen such a remarkable reputation. I would not hesitate to call on Mr. Beer again, nor do I think I could ever find a contractor who could do better work.

First and most important, Bauhaus comitted to a 4.5 week completion and met that commitment. The timing of the various projects (since this was a muliple job) was excellent. This was very important to us that they stayed on schedule. The quality of each project was excellent. The company owner is a perfectionist and if he was not pleased with an aspect of the work, it was fixed or redone without delay. He was more concerned than we were which is a refreshing attribute. Additionally, the advise he gave for mechanical, construction and decorative issues was very good and alot of the time I went with his suggestions and in the end was very pleased with the outcome. Before the town inspector was scheduled to come we did a final inspection ourselves and found zero defects or issues with the entire job.
Description of Work: Bauhaus replaced roof and installed new siding and built a new addition and deck. Additonally, the providerr did the electrical work, lighting (inside and exterior), and floor install of tile and laminate and heating unit for the new addition.Bauhaus also completed all drywall and insulation for the the new addition and the adjoining areas that needed upgrade. They also did all outside and inside painting including foundation and steps. Installed windows in the new addition and installed two new doors and stained and installed all oak trim and crown molding in the new addition and into adjoining area.
