Work was completed on time. But when finished, I noticed that the thin metal threshold had no supporting wood underneath. When I communicated this, the reply was that the work was done to code and support under the thin overhanging metal threshold was not necessary. I had to insist it be corrected and at a later date it was corrected. My wife commented that during the appraisal for the work, there was unnecessary and lengthy conversation not pertaining to the work. She found the language and conversation to be offensive. So this was not professional.

The Member contacted us through Angie's List to replace a set of garage stairs leading into the house for his mother in law. I asked if he could provide me with photographs of the project. Two days later I provided the member a price. He agreed and I meet with his wife and mother in law, to sign the contract at his mother in law's residence. During our meeting I listened to his mother in laws concerns and likings. Our conversation also included a history of the preexisting stairs that had been built by her husband many years ago and never completed. Throughout the job she came out several times to look at the progress and confirmed that it was to her liking, She also expressed excitement over the fact that she was able to descend the stairs in a safe manner. The member contacted me the same evening, after the completion, and asked about the gap under the door. I explained that it is by code, except that drywall was missing, which created a gap. He was advised that after the completion of his job I would come and install a white board to make up for the missing drywall and matching the screen door.

Workmanship was solid. Attention to detail and cleanup was subpar. For example the furniture and grill were not returned to their original location. And integration of new construction with existing was not well done, for example the top step was not perfectly abutted to existing deck since no effort was made to slightly modify the existing deck to make the seam a tight fit. So I have an uneven gap between my existing deck and the new steps. It’s ok but not a great job in this respect. Interactions were not very professional and existing workmanship was criticized and language involved swears.

We were contracted to replace preexisting deck stairs with the same. Instead of 2 stringers, we installed a 3rd additional one for extra support. The original stairs had 6 steps. In order to get the correct pitch we had to add an additional step. We installed one 4x4 post on the bottom of the stairs with two 7" bolts, washers and nuts. We tried attaching the rail to the existing upper deck post, but as this was completely out of alignment, it did not provide a proper support for the handrail. To correct this issue we installed an upper stair and center stair post directly to the stringer, the same as the first. As to the customers concerns regarding the gap in the 1st stair tread, this came about because the deck boards of the existing deck were partially shorter and not aligned correctly. I was unable to cut the first tread to fill the gap, as it would shorten the riser of the stairs. These are issues that could arise due to weather and aged materials over time. We would like to wish this customer and his family many wishes for a wonderful holiday.
Oliver Beer came promptly, analyzed the problem, gave us a price to do the work and a date that he would be able to start. We had purchased the replacement windows, as my husband was going to do the work himself. He had removed one window; discovered the framework supporting the old window was rotted beyond his capabilities to repair, and asked me to locate a professional to do the work. Mr. Beer started the replacement work by pulling out the old rotted wood; the old insulation- including moss that had grown up between the wall and the old aluminum siding that has been on this 1940's Cape probably since the 40's. It took him all of the first day just to clean up the window spaces so that he could actually start replacing the framing for the windows. It was a lot of work, and we are very appreciative of his remarkable effort to give us a gorgeous view of our back yard, that we had never had, and improve my bird -watching. Although we had purchased windows that were designed for 'new construction' Mr. Beer said he could make it work and he did. The result is perfectly framed windows that are 'new construction' perfect both inside and out. After each phase of the work, Mr. Beer cleaned up all wood and sawdust and bagged it. He had to leave his equipment in our garage and my husband wanted to be sure it was there safely. The slide bar lock on the garage door didn't lock properly, so my husband had to drill out the connection, Mr. Beer, at his own initiative, fixed the lock that hadn't worked properly in the 25 years we have lived in the house, and we now have a garage door, even though it is old, works properly. His attention to the smallest detail was a delight and was unexpected. To have found a contractor so dedicated to his craft is unheard of these days. We would, and will, hire him to do more work on this old house in the near future. His charge was reasonable for the enormous amount of work he had to do on what should have been a simple window replacement. We are very grateful to him for accepting this awful challenge. I just hope my review doesn't get him a flood of work that is as awful as this one. He deserves to have work that is simple and straight forward.

When I first met Oliver Beer, I thought he was a good guy and very knowledgeable. Once I contracted him it was nothing but yelling and screaming @ me and his contractors, complaining about everyone and everything, and hating every person that I had gotten my products from unless it was ones he recommended. He hated my cabinet guy and granite people...but he was told everything about that coming into the project that I had purchased cabinets from someone else and gotten my granite from someone else and not his people. If you can keep him focused and get him to stop his complaining & YELLING at the top of his lungs about everyone and everything, then he does good work as he has astounding training. After months have passed, we noticed that our cabinet trim was not installed correctly by Oliver's Kitchen Installer, Ken, and when I finally had it inspected by the cabinet company we were told it was installed upside down...I had to reorder more trim (over $400) to get it installed properly without damaging the cabinets. I had a riser put between the kitchen and living room and now it is cracking in the seams....will have to get that fixed by a new contractor. We noticed 4 screws putting an indentation in the ceiling near a light after I had the ceiling resheetrocked to take the popcorn ceiling out. Knobs were never installed and he never finished doing the bottom trim in the kitchen and dining room....plus, if you say anything to him, it is always your fault and never his. He will never admit to anything - and when you question him he has his girlfriend send legal emails to you which is not right...a real piece of work. A box that came with the kitchen sink as accessories was stolen by him and/or one of his contractors and he would never own up to it - but that bothered me since its my home & I trusted him and his people. For the aggravation, and constant shouting and yelling, he is NOT worth the problem of having him in your house. Find someone else. I would NOT recommend. He is way too costly $30,000, ultra sensitive if you say anything contrary to what he says - it's his way or the highway and he brags about himself incessantly. I did like his advice on several recommendations he gave for a sink & faucet, though and I took those opinions to heart.

On October 13, 2017 this customer wrote the following review: Review: Home Remodeling Service 8 months ago Oliver Beer from Bauhaus Kitchen renovated my kitchen. He actually took on a challenge where others were contracted to do the work, but never did, and he stepped up to the plate to help me out so I could finally get a long-overdue kitchen renovation, which turned out beautifully. Oliver is organized, meticulous, on time, and cares about his trade and the output of the product he produces. He has a lot of good men working with and for him that were all very professional and leave your home better than when you left it. He is a hidden gem - and full of knowledge. He also takes the time to assist in choosing the best products for the renovation and end design, which is time consuming for both customer & contractor. He is higher than some contractors, but you pay for what you get. I would highly recommend him. Services Performed Home Remodeling Now several months later she revised her review to include defamatory statements against us. As is evidenced by her original review, we finished the project to her complete satisfaction. The project was permitted, inspected and approved by the building department of Ellington CT. When we undertook this project we made the customer aware of any issues that may arise. She had indicated that she had worked with a kitchen designer and this was in part due to the fact that she had previously selected and purchased cabinets from this vendor. They had stored them for her, for approximately 1 year at their facility, as the original contractor who was to install them was no longer available. We had no knowledge of the condition of the cabinets. This customer had also selected a granite company and purchased counter tops at the same time. We again had no knowledge of their contacted agreement, the size or the specifications. It was pretty much a shot in the dark. Having an understanding and going out on your own to purchase cabinets is not an easy task. We took on this project in order to deliver this customer's long-lived dream of having a beautiful kitchen. The kitchen designer had no functional knowledge about cabinet installation. This in turn resulted in the said problems with the 'crown molding'. The crown molding was installed properly by us, which can be seen our company website Bauhaus Construction.com under the category of "Kitchens" and see the first photographs. The stone fabricating company that she had contracted, insisted that one of the base cabinets, next to the cooking range, be installed in a crooked fashion. This was to make their job easier and so that they would not need to make any modifications to the countertops upon installation. Furthermore, the sink that had been selected was oversized for the sink base cabinet. We brought this to the customer's attention and gave her different options, but she refused to modify her plans or agree to a smaller sink. In order to appease this customer, the owner of stone fabricating company asked that we compromise the integrity of the sink base cabinet by removing the corner supports which is a part of the cabinet box design and provide a functional service. He stated, "'they were unnecessary and only intended to be used for transportation" and advised the customer of the same. When we refused to do so, as it would void the warranty from the factory, the owner himself made the modifications. Additionally he also removed the two sink flip out drawers that had been factory installed. The customer then had to contact the original kitchen cabinet vendor to have them send another party out to remount the face of the sink flips out drawers, at an additional cost to her. It should be noted that we completely installed the cabinets, including the bottom trim, which is contrary to her statement. This customer never selected the cabinet knobs during her designing phase or during the course of our job. We even presented her with samples of knobs but she remained undecided and they were never provided for installation. We requested that she contact us once she had made a final decision, but she never did. This customer house had popcorn ceilings in the kitchen, living room and hallway. She wanted to have the popcorn removed in the kitchen and at a later time in the living room and hallway areas. As there was no way to remove the popcorn on the kitchen ceiling we added a 1/2 "overly of drywall to made the ceiling flat. In our contract we also agreed to install a 2" transition piece from the kitchen ceiling into the living room / hallway area, until she had the remainder of the work done. The drywall specialists installed the overlay including the matching transition. The following day the customer complained that the transition was too small and that it should match the 11" headers in the back hallway. We advised her that at the time the house was constructed, it was not designed to have headers between the kitchen, living room and hallway, as the three adjoining walls in this area were completely out of alignment with one another. We explained that it would be impossible to make it 100% uniform, but in order to satisfy her we proceeded to install a full size header at no additional cost. It should be pointed out that the allegations of nail popping can result from houses settling and in this instance it is due to ongoing construction taking place in the living room / hallway area after our job was completed, which could have result from walking around the attic when installing recessed lights in the ceiling, which this customer had planned and to which we have no knowledge of. We ask that this customer refer to our original contract and disclosure statement. Lastly, the sink company included a strainer as an added accessory, which had no purpose, as we installed a new garbage disposal that came with a matching strainer in a chrome finish. We disposed of the strainer, as it was inferior quality. The following day the customer insisted that she wanted the original one, as it was included with the sink and she had paid for it. After explaining to her the situation, the customer continued to insist upon the original strainer and we provided her with a better quality strainer. Two days later she changed her point of view and asked that we take the strainer that we had purchased and return it. We refused to do so and she indicated that she would mail it to us. To date we have still yet to receive the strainer nor were we expecting to receive it.

I wanted to remove a hearth and wood stove from my living room as I don't really use it. Upon starting the project it became clear that the previous owners way overbuilt the hearth and butchered our chimney. Oliver discovered that the boiler flue was compromised and fumes were entering the wood stove flue and living room. Instead of opting for a "quick fix", Oliver pointed out the situation and did everything in his power to fix it. The problem is now resolved and we have a beautifully painted living room with new moldings. Oliver also recommended that we swap our outlets out for childproof ones as we have little ones at home and changed out the baseboard radiator. The whole room has been transformed and we are happy that the TV is now mounted on the wall with no ugly wires showing. Oliver was fair about the unexpected work that needed to be done and all work was performed neatly and professionally. Oliver will not settle for anything less than a perfect result! He is available to answer questions any time and always responds promptly. Oliver also noticed a few other issues with the house and worked with us to resolve them while working on the primary project.

Oliver was able to come out to us quickly to assess the job and give a quote. He spent a long time listening to what we were asking for and inspecting the room and underneath the floor to get a good sense of what the job might entail once demolition began. We were worried about the integrity of the floor and in a major hurry to get the bathroom finished before I gave birth in a few weeks, so we were working in a very tight timetable. Oliver was able to answer all of my questions very quickly, offer suggestions for local vendors for materials, and confidently offer price ranges for everything that might come up. His prices were very competitive compared to other local contractors I had been speaking with. I also appreciated his directness and honesty when asking questions. He was never shy to offer his opinion. There were very few surprises once we started the project and Oliver did research and found cost-effective solutions for each one, saving us a great deal of money in the process. He also discovered some very scary electrical hazards behind our previous shower and went through great efforts to show and explain to us how he was addressing it so we didn't have to worry. Throughout the entire remodel, he took great pains to explain what he was doing, and offered to do many other things we didn't even ask for, such as clean and repair our ceiling fan, our ceiling, and completely restore the wood around our skylight. Oliver was very mindful of the rest of the house when working, and never damaged any of the walls or doorframes while entering and exiting the house. He was extremely conscientious of the work space and kept things really tidy between sessions. He also did a great job organizing, preparing for, and arranging for secondary tradesmen to the site (plumbing/tiling). We didn't have to schedule or worry about any of it. The bathroom was finished very quickly and we couldn't be more pleased or confident with the results. An aside: my very young daughter was very curious about what Oliver was doing and often asked him questions -- he always kindly took the time to talk to and humor her while he worked. He even bought her a birthday present when the bathroom was finished! Too kind! (She loved it).

Oliver did an amazing job replacing 2 doors for me. The old ones were getting weathered and there was some rot on the bottom of the frames. He used high quality Andersen products for both doors and was very precise in his installation. Both doors are balanced very nicely, open smoothly and are much more energy efficient. Oliver took extra steps to ensure a finished look and made suggestions on the product selection to ensure that they fit in with the rest of the house. Both doors look great and replaced molding around the doors as needed to make sure they are weather resistant. He discovered some shortcuts that the original builders used and corrected them so that these doors will function properly for years to come. Oliver believes in doing the job properly and strives for perfection. I cannot wait to hire him again for another project!

After seeing the quality of the work when Oliver Beers and Bauhaus Construction installed a new front door for us this summer, we decided to hire him to do a long postponed small master bathroom. Oliver’s work is meticulous as was that of his team which included an electrician, a plumber and a tile ‘artisan’. He is skilled and imaginative and an excellent painter. During the demolition phase, we discovered that the shower base (which we had hoped to retain) was damaged and that there had been a leak below the original tile. Oliver and team adjusted the work schedule, removed the base and repaired the leaks adding only a few days to the schedule. Oliver referred us to vendors in our area to select tile, light and plumbing fixtures. We communicated by text and email on a regular basis so we were always aware of the daily schedule. The worksite was left clean and neat at day’s end. Our bathroom is better than we could have dreamed. My husband and I have already decided to hire him to do another bathroom and some kitchen remodeling in the spring. One additional note: My husband who, in the past did all our painting and home remodeling projects, has lost most of his vision. When Oliver realized my husband’s limitations, he took the time to explain to him what he was doing on the bathroom job and gave him a hand in finishing some other small repair jobs in other areas of the house. We are looking forward to our next project with Bauhaus Construction and Oliver Beers.
Description of Work: Note: this is a resubmit of a review that was not entered completely on 10/28/2016. Renovation of 60 year old master bath including remove shower base and tile. Water had been leaking in and discoloring the wood. Oliver diagnosed the problem immediately, replacing the wood with the correct type of wood, sealing the area around the wood to prevent water from leaking in when it rained, and painting the wood to match the ceiling color perfectly. He also found a stylish kind of wood that was heavy duty, but went with the design of the porch. Oliver does a meticulous job! He is a true craftsman who takes pride in his work and wants his customers to be very satisfied with the end result, which we were!

Project went very well. We discussed our vision for remodeling the living room with Oliver, and helped to bring it to life. We wanted more space and a more modern look, and Oliver helped guide us to achieving this. Oliver was punctual for all his appointments, made sure all aspects of the jobs were completed to our satisfaction, and we really enjoyed working with him. End product is high quality, looks wonderful. We really enjoy working with Oliver, he gives us good advice to help us along the way with decisions. Very happy with the project!

I cannot recommend Oliver enough. He returned my call immediately, was communicative, prompt and thorough. He analyzed everything I needed fixed and came up with not only the best solutions, but the most cost effective as well. He even fixed some things that weren't on my list! I now have a reliable, talented contractor for anything else that I need done in the future! (Yes, I used reliable and contractor in the same sentence!) Thank you Oliver! Oliver takes great pride in his work. His standards are excellent. Although this was a small job, he gave it all his attention.. We plan to hire him again to redo a bathroom
Description of Work: The work Oliver did was a follow up to his earlier work this summer installing a new front door. We decided to replace the storm door which required carpentry work on the architectural details surrounding the door. Due to the extreme heat in August, painting had to be carefully timed to be done in the cool of the morning. Oliver reinstalled the architectural pieces after carefully recutting them to make them fit with new door. He also did some sheet rock repair. His painting was excellent.

Oliver Beers/Bauhaus Construction did an excellent job. He replaced a sixty year old front door. Installing the door required reframing, installing a new deadbolt and rebuilding the threshold. The work was done in a neat and meticulous manner. When the weather cools off, he will return to paint the door and install a new screen door. (Note: we purchased the door separately so the price listed below is just the cost of the installation.) We plan to ask Oliver to do other work in our home.

Description of Work: Oliver and his team installed fire rated drywall between the garage and the living space
Based on Angie's List recommendations, we asked Bauhaus Construction for a quote to replace three exterior doors at the house in Storrs, CT. Oliver Beer responded immediately. When he evaluated the doors, we told Oliver that we were planning to sell; would his company be able to paint, on a separate contract? Yes, they could, and would. Our door replacement task morphed into a gorgeous facelift for the whole place, inside and out. Oliver is a creative thinker with impeccable standards and elegant, practical solutions to ready our house for market. He discussed his suggestions in detail, describing various alternatives and their likely outcomes. There are a number of houses already on the market in our area; he hoped to help ours sell quickly, at a fair price. We stayed in the house with our dog, while Bauhaus Construction people worked around us, for about three weeks. The doors were replaced first, well, and quickly. When Oliver discovered that none of the interior walls / trim had been primed, he was understandably distressed. This meant considerably more time and supplies, but he soldiered on, taking the time to remove all hardware, switchplates, outlet covers, thermostats, etc., prior to plastering, taping, priming, and otherwise prepping the walls and trim for a quality, lasting paint job. His ceiling man sprayed all of the (flat) ceilings in a short time, with excellent results. Carpets were pulled up and removed to the onsite dumpster in a couple of hours. We were particularly impressed with Oliver's organizational skills and outstanding personal work ethic. He is trustworthy, sensible, well-experienced, and careful. He and his people cleaned up after themselves every day. Additionally, it was a relief for us that Oliver did not object to having our dog, Enzo, in the house. In fact, Enzo soon fell in love with Oliver, watching every morning for Oliver's truck, then running out the door to greet his new friend. We suspect that Enzo preferred Oliver to us! When it was time to refinish the hardwood floor, we left the Storrs house in Oliver's capable hands, to return to our new house out-of-state. Every day since, he has provided either telephone or photographic updates. The place looks much better than brand-new! We ended up contracting with another provider only because we decided to do additional exterior paint work on our home and the package presented to us was more suitable for our needs. If we do need construction or remodeling services in the future, I would not hesitate to contact Oliver again. He was very easy to communicate with, punctual, gave great info and was very friendly and personable. We really appreciate the time he took to visit our home and provide a detailed quote.
Description of Work: I contacted Olive regarding updating our deck. I sent a message on a Friday afternoon, had communications with him on Saturday and he was here Sunday afternoon to check the project out in person and provide a quote.

Oliver is a meticulous craftsman and a pleasure to work with. He takes an unusually high level of pride in his work. He not only repaired the damaged areas, but improved them to a condition superior to their original state. He tossed in a few extra touches like painting the molding around our windows and floors. Oliver is knowledgeable about many aspects of home construction and repair. As one additional plus, Oliver lives pets and walked and played with our dog and brought her treats. We highly recommend Bauhaus Construction and intend to work with them in the future.
Description of Work: Oliver repaired water damage to a kitchen ceiling and living room walls. He removed the entire popcorn ceiling and replaced it with a flat finish.

Sheetrock was taped, sanded, and ceiling was primed and painted. Work was also done on bedroom wall. All work was done in a timely, neat and efficient manner. The owner Oliver showed up on time, paid meticulous attention to detail and offers very dedicated customer service. His price was fair and reasonable. I plan to hire him again in the near future for my kitchen.
Description of Work: Provided sheetrock over damaged plaster ceilings in bedroom and hallway.
Owner Oliver Beer was quick to respond to our request for an estimate. We contacted him in late spring, and were looking to have the work done in late August/September. Once the contract was signed - he was able to schedule and perform the work in the time frame that worked for us. Oliver and Leon were on site each day, and both did a great job. As the job was progressing, we could easily discuss making modifications to our original plan, and were able to add the work to the new shower stall just days before he started. They kept the work areas clean, removed all trash, and did a top to bottom cleaning of the work areas when the job was done.
Description of Work: Sheetrock installation and various repairs through out house: Garage: full ceiling installed/installed wall along one side/repaired remaining walls/ primed & painted all surfaces/ reinstalled missing window trim. Basement: repaired all sheetrock joints/popped nails/ installed new ceiling/ primed & painted ceiling/ replace damaged window/door trim. Throughout house: multiple small repairs/patches to sheetrock. Bathroom: removed old tile surround/installed sheetrock/ upgraded lighting around newly installed shower stall. M.Bedroom/Bath - stripped damaged popcorn ceiling and re-popcorned.
We met with Bauhaus Constuction with a very rough idea of what we wanted with a new kitchen and dining room space, and the business owner Oliver helped us turn those ideas into a vision and a real final product that we are incredibly happy with! During the initial process of design, Oliver helped by giving suggestions on different options, including his suggestions based on his experience in the industry. As details needed to be finalized, he always gave his professional opinion. Everything was our decision, but Oliver always gave us suggestions along the way, which we appreciated very much since we don't know everything about construction, design, etc. Sometimes that meant us going in a different direction than we originally thought on a material or design, and we are grateful given how wonderful the final product now looks. There was great attention to detail by Bauhaus, for cabinets, backsplash, trim, and all aspects of the project. Oliver made sure all the work, including the work of subcontractors, was accurate and materials from suppliers were correct, including coming back to finish or correct anything needed. For Oliver, it was never a question of if something was okay -- the product had to be exactly as we wanted it. The project took longer than expected, primarily due to delays by the cabinet supplier. Overall, we are extremely happy with the product and service.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel. New cabinets, removal of wall between kitchen and dining room, lighting, backsplash, replace floor with new wood floors, replace sliding glass door to back patio with new single door and additional wall space. New island in the middle of the kitchen. Install of new faucet, sink, granite countertops, and appliances. Also new railings outside, and outdoor lighting.
