Description of Work: Tbhis contractor arrived with a arrogant attitude which got even worse when I told him I was an architect and actually knew about he was talking about. He disagreed with many of our preliminary choices of materials we had used in many projects before and refused to use the IKEA cabinets we wanted and was going install some stuff he was going to build. We want extremely contemporary design and there was no way this guy was going to do it. He said he was a designer, a structural engineer, and he could be making more money doing that but he loved what he was doing. The whole interview was one of the most bizarre I've had in 40 years in the construction industry. His picture portfolio was very limited in terms of projects and types of projects shown. Every time I said something he had a counter. I can't imagine how he could complete a successful project with this attitude.

Response from Bauhaus Construction
This member contacted us in October to obtain an estimate for a kitchen remodel. Upon our arrival the member indicated that in addition to having their kitchen remodeled, they also had several other jobs that they wanted to discuss. These included repairing handrails that were constructed of 2x4's, updating 3 bathrooms as well as the appearance of the garage to match that of the existing house and converting half of the garage to include an art studio. We were caught off guard and not prepared to discuss this additional work. We guarantee our work and one of our main concern is with the overall durability and value of the product. As such, we will decline to install cabinets that we cannot guarantee, as they do not meet our standards and are not what we deem to be of quality workmanship. A kitchen renovation is time consuming and costly. It should be built to last. If we recommend a product and it fails, it comes back to us, as there are clients who will look to us for compensation and not the manufacturer. We have an extensive education as well as field experience of over 39 years. We also have an extensive portfolio of jobs that we have completed which are available for anyone to view on our website. This information is always provided and available to any member, so that they can view our previous work and our previous reviews from other members.

Description of Work: They were contracted to replace the slider on our deck and replace cedar siding that had rotted before we painted. All of this was done and done very nicely. Eventually. BUT... none of it was actually done by Bauhaus Construction. It was sub-contracted out to Tanglewood Builders. Scott and the guys from Tanglewood were awesome and I will use them again. Unfortunately I paid 2 contractors when I should have gone straight to the source and saved myself some money and still got the great service and job. Other than the owner, I can't tell you what any of the Bauhaus Construction employees look like. The pictures on their web site are mostly of Scott and his Tanglewood Builders.

This member contacted us to replace a 6’ sliding glass door on their deck. In addition to partially repairing the side of the garage with new primed cedar boards, several random pieces on the house wall by the deck, 2 corners of rotten trim and 30’ of facial board over the garage which were replaced with Azek composite. Before starting the job, we made the member aware that the sliding glass door had to be special ordered, to meet their specifications, and would take several weeks to arrive. Upon receipt of the door, we immediately arranged for a date to start. The member did not pay twice for this job. He paid us directly for the work, upon his complete satisfaction. The photographs on our website are of jobs that have been completed by Oliver Beer and Bauhaus Construction.

This member contacted us on June 3, 2014 requesting an addition and a remodel of their vacation home. It should be noted that this member’s home is a very old lake house, which has undergone many changes that were performed by the homeowner. I provided the member with a preliminary quote and advised that due to the requirements of the building department, that we would need an architect and / or a structural engineer. The member advised us that they were going to be away for several weeks and would not have access to e-mail during this time, so we asked that they contact us upon their return. We wish the member the best of luck with their project.

Description of Work: It is great to find a handyman you can trust! I hired Oliver to remove some composite boards from my deck so I could run plumbing underneath. When he began to take them off, though, he discovered that the boards couldn't stand up tot the task. They began to split and break apart as he removed them due to age and wear. He stopped the job right away and called me to suggest that I find another way rather than destroy the deck boards. And, he didn't charge me anything for the work -- not even a service call for coming out to my house. I was so impressed. I will definitely call him again when I need a handyman.

Response from Bauhaus Construction
We would like to thank this member for her kind words. We were contacted by the member to remove several boards in a deck in order for a propane line to be installed by another contractor. We were advised that it was Trex decking. Upon arriving at the job we determined that the deck was constructed of pressure treated pine. Removing the existing boards would have caused damage to the existing decking and any replacement boards would not have the same existing patina. After further inspection of the deck, we determined that the lattice around the existing deck could easily be removed and the necessary holes be drilled in the floor joists to run a propane line. We advised the member of our findings and proposed an alternative solution. We look forward to being able to provide this member with any necessary services in the future.

Description of Work: We contacted Bauhaus numerous times to get a quote for a bathroom remodel and finally scheduled a date. Unfortunately, due to traffic Oliver could not come to our house for the quote as we requested. He did call and apologize. He also said to contact a friend of his, Chris and he would come out to quote our bathroom. He contacted my phone and when I returned his call, I left a message. My message was never returned. Needless to say, they never came to my house to perform the quote.

This member contacted us in early November following a storm and were unable to go out to the appointment due to adverse roadway conditions. Chris contacted the member and provided his contact information so that the member could call him back directly. Neither Chris nor we ever received a return call from the member and therefore assumed that they had found some else to complete their job. We apologize for any inconvenience this member may have experienced. Chris has been with Bauhaus Construction for 7 years as a tile installer. He is always well accepted by our clients and returns calls in a prompt and timely fashion. Chris takes pride in his job and strives to achieve exceptional workmanship.

The work went pretty smoothly.
Description of Work: Oliver installed floor tiles in a bedroom and wall tiles above the granite countertop in the kitchen. His estimate was very competitive, he was punctual and completed the work appropriately. There were a few small flaws in the wall tiles in the kitchen, for which we requested him to return and refinish. He did this promptly and satisfactorily.

Oliver and Tracey were great to work with. They answered calls promptly, showed up when they said they would, and were there everyday, often for many hours. They walked me through the process, letting me know what they would do & what I should do. They went with me to pick out tiles, sent pictures of different products so I could choose. Oliver is meticulous in his work, very anxious that everything be done correctly, and very proud of what he does. You will have to admire his wiring! He's excited about technology - hydraulic toilet seats!! Oliver and Tracey had to do a LOT of demolition, but they did a great job of keeping the house as clean as possible. And they steam cleaned the carpets when the job was through. When the paint I picked for one bathroom was the wrong color, they repainted cheerfully. It was a big big project so it took a while, but I think the best thing that can be said after a major remodel like this is that we parted as friends, and I would hire them again.
Description of Work: Bauhaus Construction completely gutted two bathrooms in my home, moved doors, moved plumbing, put together two beautiful new bathrooms, & built a new closet in the master bedroom. The hall bath was more straightforward: they tore out everything in the room, put in new fixtures - except they were able to re-paint the vanity and re-use it, which I really appreciated. It is beautiful - all blue and white. The master bath was a real challenge. They tore out two closets to enlarge the space, put in a soaking tub, a double sink vanity, a big storage closet, a shower with both a rain-head & regular shower head and a heated floor. It is truly a dream bath. They put new windows and recessed lights in both baths, installed a beautifully quiet vent for both baths, and new doors. In the master bedroom, they built a new, walk-in closet with organizing system, installed new molding and painted the room. The pictures below are the master bath, before and after.

Overall we were very pleased in the beginning. Their work ethic seemed great, they were on time, very neat, on schedule with our time line. Remodeling began July 12, 2007 and ended Sept 8, 2007. It became obvious that Oliver was bored with the job at the end and wanted it to be over. There were a lot of things that were rushed, finish work that was never finished, a walk through that never happened, and some excuses that didn't make sense. His wife and partner, Tracey is a perfectionist and things always seemed to go better with her there. We have now noticed areas of flooring that are missing grout or grout is chipping, finish work under the vanity that wasn't finished and the basement has some issues with cracks on appearing in the walls across most of the area that was finished. What was disturbing was that no permits were pulled after it was assumed the GC would have done them and we had an issue with the exhaust system that almost costs us several hundred dollars in fines.
Description of Work: Completely finished basement making approximately 800 sq feet of additional living space. Remodeled baths with new counter tops, fixtures and flooring, removed wallpaper in 2 bedrooms and hallway and painted the same.

The job turned out to be more work than expected. After demolition, a lot more water damage was discovered than was planned. Oliver reinforced some rotted floor joists, corrected plumbing problems and replaced poorly installed electrical wiring. Oliver was very responsive from "estimate" phase to after job completion and some follow up work. Oliver's estimate was prompt and within expectations compared to other contractors. Oliver is always available for questions and quickly returns a call when a message is left. If there is a problem he will quickly return your call and come back to check on things if needed.
Description of Work: Oliver gutted our master bathroom and rebuilt a completely new bathroom. All of the debris was promptly removed. Walls were re-framed and floor joists were replaced. Plumbing was moved & corrected from prior work. All electrical was replaced. New window installed as well as a new base board heater. Floor & shower were tiled; dry wall put up & walls & ceiling painted. New bathroom fan & light fixtures installed. New toilet, sink & amenities installed.

The job went very well and most of the work was done while we were on vacation.
Description of Work: Oliver and Tracey had to remove and redo work that was done by another company to my bathroom. That was done just 7 months ago. They remove medicine cabinet and vanity that was not done correctly, and redid the plumbing under sink that keep clogging because of previous installation. Also had to tear out new tile and tub and frame it all out correctly and reinstall the tub and secure it properly. They redid plumbing of the tub so it would not leak anymore. Also relocated my ceiling fan in the correct location.

Oliver and Tracey were fabulous. The experience was definitely one that I would repeat. Tracey's design was superb, and it allowed me to visualize what the new bathroom would look like, without much experience. They listened to what we wanted and offered options from which to choose. I stated a budget at the outset and they kept the project under budget, while providing a custom product. The result is extraordinary. They were fabulous, very accommodating, and helpful in creating a design and then following through to implement it. I have already hired them again for a smaller project, and I can tell you it will not be the last.
Description of Work: Our bathroom was completely gutted. All tile on floor, walls, and ceiling was removed, as well as, the existing bathtub, sink, toilet, vanity, etc. The bathroom was complete rebuilt with a custom designed shower with frameless shower door. A window was also added, as there was no window previously. Custom granite countertop was installed over the vanity.

It went quite well. In the beginning Oliver gave us a detailed quotation which was almost to the penny except he did have to correct for a overhead section and floor section which was rotten out, he did the complete repair ( including plumbing etc ). They were punctual, and got the job done in a minimum of time. At first I wanted a stand alone walk in shower, but when we saw it would not fit, we went back to Olivers original suggestion of using fancy tiles, boy am I glad we did that. Now the bath room looks and feels eloquent and the multi facet shower works great, especially after a hard day on the road. I would definitely use Bauhaus again very any renovation work.
Description of Work: They removed the old bathtub, two sub walls, and flooring. They installed a new wall in shower, with full tiles in the shower area, and tiles on the floor, with a complete repaint and trim of the remaining bath.

Oliver responded quickly to my request for assistance in our kitchen remodeling. He spent a considerable amount of time with my wife and I, explaining his work and concern for quality. He also was very interested in past work that we had contracted or done ourselves, inspecting the materials used, as well as the quality of their installation. He offered a number of suggestions that would either help us to complete projects in progress, or for others we have in mind. He has followed up with us on several occasions to see how our projects are progressing. I did not have the opportunity to watch Tracey and Oliver at work, although it was evident that they worked quickly and efficiently. They completed the tiling in one day, where it would have taken me weeks. When I arrived home that day, Oliver was beaming with pride at the work that they had done, eager to show me every detail. We are very pleased with their work and look forward to having them work on other projects for us.
Description of Work: Tracey and Oliver installed marble tile in our kitchen, above a marble countertop. They also adjusted numerous electrical outlets so that they were flush with the new tile. They expertly cut the tiles around the fixtures and cabinets, work that I would never attempted by myself. They used the best materials for cementing and grouting, in order for the installation to last a lifetime. Their work was beyond professional, it was a work of art.

I was very impressed with Oliver and Tracey from the very beginning. Knowledgeable, courteous, and ALWAYS accessible by telephone to answer questions, a very important factor for us due to previous experience with area contractors and their inaccessibility. Contract was very specific and did not deviate from agreement. Oliver was very detailed and we could rest easily knowing the work he performed was of high quality. He put his ALL into this room which was evident by his working 12+ hours on many days. I greatly appreciated his taking the time to explain the steps along the way giving me a better understanding of everything involved as well as enlightening me. My children absolutely adored him and still to this day talk about the work he did. The finished room looks amazing and we are very pleased with the results.
Description of Work: The work involved the completion of an unfinished room above the garage, approximately 600 square feet. Installation of the following, electric radiator heaters, outlets, recessed lighting, ceiling fan and an air conditioning unit. Framing included footer knee walls and storage behind them as well as extra carpentry to existing ceiling boards which were all uneven. Removal of existing stairwell inside the garage and installing floor joists to support area. Insulation along rafters, ceiling and walls. Sheet rocked, taped, sanded, primed and painted walls and ceiling. Installed baseboard trim as well as along windows and door. Fixed hole in sub-floor in entryway and applied extra layer of plywood.

The project was very short in duration - 3 days total. Once the windows were ordered, the project went very smoothly. The critical part of the job was that our house has vinyl siding, and Oliver had to remove a good bit of the siding to properly install and then frame the windows. He then reinstalled new vinyl siding. No one could ever tell that the windows and siding were not original to the house. Furthermore, we had installed similar windows in our kitchen and dining room about 10 years ago (another remodeling company who has since closed their business). Oliver and Tracey looked for exactly the right windows to match the windows we had in the other rooms, as the dining room and master bedroom face the same side of the house. The entire project went flawlessly.
Description of Work: Large bedroom windows replaced. Had old sliders and new casement windows installed. Additionally, 4 bedroom and closet doors (hollow) were replaced with new solid doors. We hired Oliver and Tracey immediately upon completion of a more substantial bathroom remodel, as we were so happy with their work.
