I called the company, the lady on the phone was pleasant and setup an appointment. I took the day off to wait for the technician; they provided me with a 4 hour window. However, the technician never showed up, never called and the company never let me know what happened. Do not use this company, unless you want to waste your time.
Description of Work: I needed repair of a washing machine, however technician never showed up.

I stumbled upon Action Appliance a few years back. Since the first encounter with them, I have used no other appliance repair company but them. They are consistently responsive, reliable, and the quality of their work is very high. I've used them several times (refrigerators, washing machine, gas dryer, dish washer, etc.) They've never let me down. Would highly recommend them.

They offered up 4 hour time windows, which seemed reasonable to me. They came in the time window for both visits. The repair was done effectively. If I had more than one repair, it would have been more cost-effective, because they (reasonably enough) charge you something for the visit. But I didn't have anything else (though on reflection, I should perhaps have just thrown in a safety check of the dryer). I thought the overall price, including the part, was reasonable.
Description of Work: I called because a stove ignition striker was clicking over and over even when the stove was supposed to be off. (I'd had to unplug it). The repairman came, assessed it, ordered the part, and came back and installed the part.

This company is quite professional, but they have an annoying policy of requiring you to answer a phone call to confirm their scheduled appointment 30-60 minutes prior to arriving. If you miss this phone call, which I did, they move on to their next customer. This will likely set your time back 1-3 hours for the appointment (within a 4-hour window). This would be tolerable if not for their additional requirement that you, after receiving an email, confirm online the day before that you'll be available for the appointment you set up a few days earlier. In essence, they wish you to "double confirm" both online and via the phone. In summary, I confirmed the night before online and assumed (incorrectly) that all was set for the next morning. I then missed the phone call that morning (house is busy in the AM due to getting children ready for school), and they skipped over me. I complained to their dispatcher on the phone about this policy and he defended it as necessary. I will seek another company.
Description of Work: I had scheduled an appointment for dryer and freezer servicing.

reviewed all of the reviews for this company. All of my previous experience with Angie's List "A" rated companies were exactly that - "A" service. Unfortunately, this company was the only game in town to fix a Samsung Electric Dryer. The first call was answered promptly and professionally. The woman explained the $79.95 service charge and that it would be deducted from the final cost of the job. No problem. The first service man arrives exactly on time. My dryer is a stackable in a closet area made to fit a stackable. I was able to slide it out. He examined the appliance and determined it needed a new motor, then proceeded to order one on his laptop. He explained that if the person who came back with the part needed to slide it out then there would be another man needed and it would be an additional $100 charge. I said I would have the unit out of the closet waiting for him. The entire time Service Man #1 was there he complained about working and the company. He obviously needed to retire because he was not happy in his job. About a week later (guessing) I called to find out when the part would be in. I was told it had to come from Korea because there were none in the United States,so it would take a while. I said it would have been nice if someone had called to tell me this, instead of me calling to follow up. A gentleman named Don called back and explained to me how the Samsung part ordering and supply worked. I logged onto the internet and found the part at Sears.com for about $150 and it would take about a week. Don said that was more than his company paid for the part, but if that's the way I wanted to go, they would pay for the part and I could pay for the expedited shipping. He thought the shipping time would be about the same though he couldn't guarantee it. Understood. I said I'd wait for their ordered part. Part has arrived. Service Man #2 arrives on time. I help him take the dryer down from the washer. The dryer is now in the middle of my dining/living room. He takes the dryer apart. The part doesn't fit. He goes on the laptop. He calls someone on his cell. They are going to try to jimmy-rig the part so it will fit. It doesn't work. It's the wrong part and they can't make it work. (Why would you jimmy-rig the wrong part anyway?) So he puts the dryer back together, the top isn't on correctly and he's states he's done. No, please put the top on correctly. A few more attempts and he gets it. He explains he has to order the part again. Fine. He is very friendly and professional. Until he tells me that the dryer may have to stay where it is because he can't lift it back on top of the washer. NO. It's not staying there. I help him lift the dryer. (a female is writing this) He leaves. I find screws on the floor. Hmmm. More time goes by. I hear nothing. I am frustrated that no one checked the part when it arrived from Korea to be sure it was the correct one. Don had explained that receiving the wrong part was not uncommon with Samsung. Well wouldn't you check it BEFORE you get to the customer's home and take the appliance apart?? Still no word on the ordered part. I email the company. Steve (who I'm told is the owner) almost immediately calls me on my cell, and leaves a message apologizing for the issues I've had, assures me they will keep me informed of the status of the order, and he's confident he can provides some discount for the general aggravation. Part arrives. Service Man #3 arrives promptly. He has the dryer apart, motor replaced, dryer back together, dryer stacked, all in 30 minutes or less. Time to pay. I ask about the discount. He has no knowledge of any discount Steve mentioned. Ok. I pay in full. For the next 2 weeks I phone the company probably 5 times, speaking to the person answering the phone, leaving messages for the Office Manager (Steve's wife) regarding the discount. Finally the Office Manger says she'll offer me $50 and asks if that will make me happy. I said I honestly had $79.95 in mind, since that was the price of the service call fee (I had 3), and I already knew they were making a fair bit of money on the part. I thought that was reasonable. She agreed. I wait some more. I call to find out where the check is. Two weeks later, I get an answer from the person answering the phone (always someone different) that it went out almost a week ago. I'm a 15 minute drive away, so there's no way the check took more than a week to get there. I ask where it's coming from. Glastonbury to South Windsor. OK, then something has happened to the check. She'll have the Office Manager call me. The Office Manager leaves me a message saying the check is being "issued" that day. Three days later the check arrives and it's for $50. Really? I make numerous calls. Leave numerous messages. Write an email. I have never gotten a response. I never raised my voice or used bad language. I did promise that I would write a review for Angie's List. Here it is. Decide for yourself. And I truly hope you don't own a Samsung and have only this company to use for repairs. They sound great, but their follow-through was horrible. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but each turn was a disappointment (except Don and Service Man#3).

We called them on a Thursday and they came out on Saturday to look at our gas dryer which had stopped heating. The person on the phone was professional. The man who came to our house was also seemingly professional. However, he diagnosed the problem as the dryer needing new valve coils. He then started tying into his laptop and calling the office to get us a quote. He said it'll be $310 ! I said, "for that little part?" He said "I typed the wrong part number - let me fix it". Then he said it would be $273. We told him we'd think about it (knowing that it was an easy fix and it shouldn't cost anywhere near that amount) and gave him a check for the estimate fee. I then further researched the issue, determined that his diagnosis was probably right, and learned that new valves are about $20. I went to an appliance parts store, bought the coils, and fixed the problem in 10 minutes. The dryer has been working great since. I understand and believe everyone needs to make a profit, but $300 for something that costs $20 and takes 10 mins to fix is taking advantage of customers.

Response from A Action Appliance
I researched the pricing for this job. We were at the home for 40 minutes to ensure it was diagnosed correctly. he quoted them $273 - 5.00 dollar coupon which we use on any repair over a $100.00 so total repair was $248.00 dollars which would include the parts, labor a 90.00 day warranty on the whole dryer and 5 year warranty prorated over 5 years. Also besides paying $79.95 service call there was a $20.00 Saturday primium that the Technician didn't charge her. We told them the 248.00 dollar quote is good for 30 days and we would minus the $79.95 service call they already paid lowering the price to 162.97. We do 13,000 calls a year in Ct most people understand the cost of the part is not what they a paying for its for the knowledge of the Technician, we get out the same day most of the time and in this case we went out on a Saturday. Also Gas dryers are very dangerous and we have to be responsible for potential damage to a house or harm to customers.

They are really good. We have used them three or four times and the people who come are always polite. They come when they say they are going to, their rates are reasonable, and they don’t overcharge us. They could have told us a lot more was wrong with our stove but they didn’t. They seem pretty honest.

I think they are very good. I have tried other companies who were on Angie’s List and I was really not happy with them. I have used them twice in the last three months. It is hard to get someone to work on my large range and they have worked on my kitchen aid refrigerator a couple of times for various problems. I have an eight burner kitchen stove and it is really hard to find somebody to work on it and they did a really good job on it. I paid $125 on the kitchen range and on the kitchen aid I paid about $ 200 because it had 3 separate problems. They are very organized and they are very prompt. They come when they say they are going to and that is not true with everybody. They are pretty efficient and in my case I seen the same person on the 4 separate visits that I had so that was kind of comforting. I thought the price was fair because I am fairly recent here and I haven’t had these particular appliances worked on before. I thought they were fair considering the stove that it is. I had no complaints about the quality. They were very responsive and they came when they said they were going to and they were very punctual. They were very professional and the young man who visited was very professional.

Action Appliance came out as promised to estimate the repair on my dishwasher. They were on time and the repairmen was very professional. That is the good news. Now the bad news and my advice. The electronic touch pad on my dishwasher went. I knew I needed a new touch pad. Action wanted $400.00 to repair the appliance. Crazy I know. I could buy a new one for the same money. Needless to say I ended up buying a new dishwasher. My advice. If you suspect an electronic repair don't even think about calling a repair company unless the appliance is very high end. Another option is to input the model/serial number found on the inside door or side. The part I needed ended up being $100.00. if you are handy you might be able to do the repair yourself. Everything is plug and play once you take it apart. More advice. Buy the simpler appliance that has the dial and push buttons on it. They last forever. The internet is filled with electronic keyboard failures on applicances that are only a year or two old. The more advanced an appliance the more chance for failure. The dishwasher I purchased at Lowes I had to special order on line. I could not find a dishwasher with a dial on it in the stores. Good Luck.

A Action responded to my phone call with an appointment the next day. I had scheduled an appointment and was home to meet the technician but missed his cellphone call telling me he was on his way, so he went to his next appointment, bypassing me, which was annoying. When he did arrive he replaced the element in my stove but somehow messed up the digital controls and had to come back to correct them. The dishwasher was fine initially after his repair but is now leaking again. He was professional but brusque. I found them based on Angie's List reviews, which were good, so this may have just been a bad day, but I would probably look for someone else next time.

I called to see if I could get a rough estimate of the cost to repair my 1994 gas free standing range. The oven suddenly stopped working, I was pretty sure the oven sensor was bad. Also 3 of the burners had lost their seal. Matt, who answered the phone immediately informed me what the charge would be for a service call and what that charge included. Then he gave me the rough estimate I asked for based on what I had told him. With this information I was able to determine it was more cost effective to replace my range.

Repairman was about 1 hour later than he said he would be but quickly diagnosed the problem and called me at mutiple locations (work, cell phone) to tell me what the problem was. He also made some recommendations about what replacement brands to purchase.
Description of Work: Refrigerator stopped working. After being told by a service that it would take a week to get someone out to repair, I called a local company reviewed in Angie's list.
