It was easy to schedule an appointment for the day and time we wanted, even with the location of the home being outside of CT. Patrick arrived early and started inspecting the roof immediately. My husband and I arrived by the appointment time and we got started right away. He was knowledgeable and frank with his assessments. We are first time home buyers, so it was a big learning experience for us. He delivered the good and bad news in great detail and made sure we understood all aspects of what he was saying. The report he provided us with is in depth and gives us a clear understanding of priorities for repair. I would absolutely work with Tiger again in the future. I highly recommend their inspection services.

Tiger is very easy to work with and gave me (at my request) the same inspector who had worked with me on my prior "near purchase" property inspection for a similar but smaller property (where the results stopped me from making a purchase that would have led to massive headaches). They promptly scheduled the inspection for a convenient time and date. My inspector, Patrick, arrived on time, and took me around through the inspection showing me what he found as we went. He was intensely thorough and found features of the property that I hadn't even noticed, including drainage systems, a complex heating system integration, etc. He made realistic suggestions for risk mitigation and remediation of problems, and helped me understand how priority certain items should be. I can't overemphasize how key that is - for a complex property, even a few items in each building can quickly mass into something large enough to either be completely overwhelming for the buyer, or completely impossible for the seller, either of which could destroy a deal that is actually worth doing. Their report is well organized, with a summary section at the end that captures all of the key items to be addressed. Not only is this helpful in determining what to ask of the seller, but it is also useful in helping to organize post-purchase actions you may want to take. Tiger saved me from a prior purchase that could have been a disaster and gave me very good help to know how to work on the deal for this much more desirable property. You can't do much better than that. On price, I know the amount here seems expensive, but realize the exposure involved in purchasing a property of this complexity and how much money can be at risk. Of course, a conventional home inspection won't cost nearly as much.
Description of Work: Inspection of a large and complex horse property with 2700 sq ft home, 24 x 48 barn and 10,000 sq ft arena / stable. They also inspected a prior property with a smaller home, a pole building garage and a post and beam barn (which I did not purchase as a result of the inspection findings).

The inspector arrived early and got to work right away. He inspected the outside of the house, the roof, the chimney, the driveway, and the deck. Once inside he started on the basement checking the plumbing and heating system (oil boiler with hot water heat) as well as the electrical system. Then he moved to the main floor checking the bathroom and kitchen as well as the fireplace. Then up to the second floor to check the bathroom and bedrooms, as well as the attic crawlspace and the space/insulation in the eaves. He was very thorough, answered all of my questions, and has been available for questions afterwards. I highly recommend him! This is my first home purchase, and the money spent is a small amount to pay for piece of mind.

Our loan officer recommended Tiger to us. We used Angie's list to confirm his recommendation because Tiger has A rating here. We finally decided to use Tiger instead of other inspectors who asked lower price. Our inspector is John. He did a great job. He found lots of problems and especially pointed out that the crawl space had significant moisture build up and mold growth. Based on his inspection, we quickly decided to walk away from the house. Thanks, John.
Description of Work: We only used Tiger Standard home inspection. We also ordered Radon and water quality test but canceled them on-site after we found serious mold problem in the crawl space.

Inspector arrived at 8:30. Inspected the roof first on a rainy day. Inspector then went room to room pointing out to methe potential homeowner all the issues that were present. I learned a lot. Finished by 11:30am.
Description of Work: A complete and professional home inspection. Called on a Thursday - inspector was available Friday morning.Price seemed reasonable, I paid that much in Vermont in the mid nineties...Inspector was professional and thoroughand sent a report by email later that day that included informative pictures. Would definitely use again!

This is the 2nd time Joe Jr. saved our lives. First time, he located an undisclosed oil tank and asbestos piping on a property we were about to buy - we dodged a bullet that time. This time, he located a cracked heat exchanger in the furnace, potentially saving the lives of the current owners as well as us. Joe III is the very best - we couldn't possibly ask for anything more in a home inspector.

I had a very good experience with Tiger from start to finish. First of all, as a first-time homebuyer I had a lot of questions and made numerous calls to the office, and Diane and Debra were always very professional and helpful. If you need information, ask to talk to Debra as she seemed to know a bit more about the process. (For example, Diane told me it must be 65 degrees outside in order to test the a/c, but Debra explained it must be above 65 degrees 3 days in a row, and that they will not turn on the a/c and we must arrange for the seller to have it on an hour in advance of the inspection. This information enabled me to check the weather and postpone the inspection to a date when the weather was forecasted to be warm enough and make the proper arrangements. Had I not known this in advance, we would have missed catching that one of the compressors in the house was not working, because our originally-scheduled inspection date was too cold for testing.) I also had a number of concerns with the house as it appeared to have a significant amount of work done that had not been permitted, including substantial electrical upgrades. Debra actually recommended I cancel their inspection until I see COs from the owner. We decided to do the inspection anyway, but I appreciated that she was straightforward. I was also able to speak to one of the inspectors, David, the week before my inspection so that I could better understand exactly what was and was not covered in the inspection. So I was kind of a pain, but everyone at Tiger was happy to answer my questions or put me in touch with the right people--all before I had ever paid them a dime. I must have made at least 6 or 8 calls in total. The inspection itself went similarly well. John was our inspector, and he did a great job of pointing out things that need repairs and upgrading without being overly dramatic. He was balanced in his approach (for example, pointing out that the electrical wiring in the garage was not done properly, but that the way it was done is not uncommon and every garage on our street likely has the same condition.) He was very patient with answering our questions, and also pointed out to us things that didn't currently need repair but that we should monitor over time, and what indicators to look for that it was time for maintenance. It was a great education about the house and its mechanical systems. Altogether, John spent 3 hours with us. Tiger also has very prompt service; when I called to schedule the inspection, I would have been able to schedule it within 48 hours (though we decided to delay until the weather warmed up the following week.) The inspector also fills out the form and types all of the info into the computer as you go, so on the day of the inspection, we finished at 5:00, and our report was emailed to us at 6:38 the same night (though they do not guarantee the report until the following day). Radon test takes 2 days so we are still waiting for the results on that one. I didn't price other inspection companies as this one was recommended by someone I knew so I just went with it, but we paid $600 for the inspection and $125 for the radon test minus $25 because we found a coupon on their website. From what I have googled, that price may be a little high, but they have a range of prices depending on the home and said they charge more for older homes, so it's possible the other companies do as well. (Given all the time they spent answering my questions, I do feel I got my money's worth.) I was very satisfied with the service and would use them again.

Our initial contact with Tiger gave an excellent impression so we decided to use them for a home inspection. They were very professional and provided e-mail confirmation of the visit. Our inspector, George, turned up before us and was ready. He was very thorough and explained everything. He took the time to give us maintenence advice, provided helpful hints for the future and explain what he was looking for. We were very happy with the inspection and with George. We'd recommend Tiger and George. Our report arrived the next day and included everything that we had been told during the day. Additional information was also provided on a few issues that George found. Excellent company.

Great inspection experience, very knowledgeable and helpful. A full report issued the next day! $370.00 for inspection ( a bit steep) $125.00 for radon $25.00 coupon on their WEBSITE!
Description of Work: I requested Joe DeLaurentis III as a home inspector after he was recommended by my realtor. They did a home inspection and a Radon test in our 1958 Cape. Joe performed a thorough inspection and asked that I walk through the entire process with him. He talked me through each recommendation that he was going to make on the house and after the walk through, sat down with me, my wife, and our realtor to discuss. Joe was VERY helpful and took the time to go into detail how to remedy each aspect of the homes issues. Radon was performed by another person from Tiger and results we quick!

After my first experience with a home inspection nine years ago, I really didn't see the point. I felt that many items were glossed over and it wasn't worth the cost. This time around, my wife and I were considering a property owned by a relocation company who had conducted their own inspection. The home had been vacant for eight months, so we decided to have our own inspection done for piece of mind with regards to the vacancy. I am so pleased that we went with Tiger. We were on vacation when our offer was accepted. It left us with only 2 days to conduct the inspection—Tiger setup it up for after the day we returned. The inspector was amazing—he thoroughly went through the house and took the time explaining what he was doing, the problems, the potential/future problems, and the solutions (electrical, plumbing, structure, land grade, termites/carpenter ants, +). In total, he spent 2 hours in the 2300 sq ft. home and identified a number of issues that needed to be addressed with estimates on when it would need to be done (immediate, a year, 5 years). It was definitely worth the money, and I will use Tiger in the future. Thank you very, very much!

Tiger performed a home inspection for me on a home that I am buying. The inspection was excellent, the inspector showed up early, started his inspection on the roof before I arrived at the home and was extremly thorough in his inspection. John looked at all the systems of the home and pointed out all defects and issues, even if they were minor. He also told me where he didn't have enough knowledge to tell me how much it would cost to fix something or if he was not aware of the exact code section that governed an issue. I received my report via email within 2 hours of completing the inspection and it was very complete. I think tat he could have taken a few more pictures for the report, so I would suggest you bring a camera and take your own pictuers. If something like mold or styructural issues come up it is best to have a contractor come in and give you a quote about how much it will cost to fix the issue. Tiger doesn't provide pricing or estimates for repairs.

I have used Tiger Home Inspections for 3 different properties. I have always been very happy with the results of their inspections. They are very thorough, very professional, up-front about prices, and offer a clear, easy to read report very quickly. They can also perform additional inspections if requested. I've had them do termite and radon inspections/tests. Most recently Bill Rourke performed our inspection. He was very responsive, had great communication, and pointed out several areas that I had not noticed on my own walk through with the real estate agent. I was glad to have his experience eye. Although it may seem a little pricey, in our most purchase their inspection "paid" for itself. One specific example is that he tested the electrical circuits, and found that the ground was missing in the upstairs, which could pose a safety hazard. We were able to have the sellers address those critical issues before closing, that we would never have noticed ourselves. Ultimately this inspection resulted in our receiving approximately $2000 toward repairs from the sellers that we would have had to pay ourselves otherwise. I highly recommend them before any real estate purchase in the area. One additional nice thing is that they are very experienced in this geographical area, so they are familiar with common problems they need to look for in the older homes which are prevalent here.
Description of Work: Tiger performed a complete visual home inspection (a 1700 sqft single family w/ detached garage). They inspect what they can see, no destructive/intrusive testing. They inspected and tested operation of all of the home systems to ensure proper function, or advise of needed maintenance or repairs. They do NOT provide estimates for repairs, instead they direct you to find a licensed specialist for any area they find to be problematic.

They Inspected a house that we were considering purchasing. We called and scheduled the appointment, the inspector was prompt and professional. However, the inspection report cost us $750.00 and he spent less than three hours completing it. He arrived on site with a small notebook computer and went through the house and his checklist. He pointed out a few things that he saw that should be taken care of. We received the report via e-mail that evening. The report did not include any estimates for how much it would cost to take care of any of the problems, and the report mentioned at least four or five possible issues and said something like, "but we don't really know about that and you'll have to hire another professional to find out about it." Our feeling was that we had hired someone - him!! To spend $750.00 to be told that we need to hire someone to check everything out, well, what a waste of time and money that was.

Once he arrived, Joe spent another good half hour discussing with us the problems we've had with this house. His responses were patient and knowledgeable. We very much felt we were sitting down with a friend in the business who cared about us. His inspection was thorough and detailed. Two days later he emailed us a 15-page PDF with pictures and suggestions for the repairs our house needs. (These include tree surgery, flue relining, a new roof and regrading the property surrounding the house.) He also gave us many useful tips on how to dry out our basement and suggested several reputable contractors. We were very pleased and would use him again.
Description of Work: We have lived in our 88-year-old house for 26 years. We hired Tiger so that we could identify and prioritize the fixes we need to keep it in shape for another 20 years. Joe Delaurentis performed the inspection. He spoke to us on the phone for half an hour when we made the appointment to get a sense of our priorities (a leaky basement is a big problem for us right now). On the afternoon of the inspection he called to say he would be approximately 20 minutes late, and then arrived precisely 20 minutes late. He certainly made up for it with the time he spent once he got here.

Robert Dietz performed our home inspection. The only thing that seemed a bit unreasonable was the up-charge for the crawlspace, but he performed a thorough inspection of that area and did turn up one issue which made it worth while. Mr. Dietz was very professional and polite, he took the job seriously and did not rush. The report was complete and was delivered quickly by email (a clean .pdf- great for us as we keep a mostly paperless home/offce).

Christine Lindeberg did a great job. She arrived before the scheduled time and by the time I came she had already inspected the roof and showed me the photos she had taken of the roof. She did a great job and since it was a new construction (2002), we had it done like in earlier than expected with fewer problems. She had a lot of equipment which the previous $700 charging inspector i had hired for an other home did not have.Overall a great job and I would recommend her and Tiger inspection again.

We could not have asked for a better experience with our home inspection. The inspector was on time, thorough, and took the time both during the inspection and during the verbal report to explain everything so that we could make informed decisions about our purchase. The written report was delivered via e-mail on the same evening that the inspection was performed. It was detailed and easy to understand. The inspector responded within the same day to a follow-up question that we had. The individual completing the radon test was also professional and we had our results within the time quoted to us, in a clear format. I used Tiger 10 years ago when I bought my first home, and the experience was equally positive.

Christine arrived early, seemed to make sure I got the best price possible, conducted herself professionally, and did a thorough inspection and report. My real estate agent was trying to downplay everything she pointed out, but she kept finding and noting everything she found. She stated that the moisture in the basement was a significant problem that required remediation. I brought this to the condo developer's attention, pushed for it to be fixed, and got a $9,000 basement water system as a result. This wouldn't have happened without Christine.

Mark's services, in short, were *spectacular.* He was the home inspector for friends of ours when they bought our home, and now friends of ours will use him for their home inspection. The price was a little higher than we expected, but in this case you truly get what you pay for. We got more than our money's worth with Mark's services and would highly recommend this company and Mark, in particular, to anyone looking for a home or building inspector.
Description of Work: As first time home buyers, we hired Mark Chesanek as our home inspector through Tiger Home & Building Inspections. By day, Mark is a well accomplished architect and he also does home inspections for Tiger. Having the architectural background, he was extremely adept at telling us how things should have been built and/or how things should be repaired in our new home. He inspected the house top to bottom, inside and outside and even gave advice on the placement of exterior plants that will cause trouble down the road. He was pleased to have us shadow him around the property and was very responsive to small (and likely uneducated) questions that we had about this property. At the end of the inspection, he took significant time to walk us through the entire report to help us understand what it all means.
