Litchfield Hills Fence Co LLC

We contracted with Litchfield Hills Fencing for installation of a vinyl fence in our backyard in order to enclose our two small dogs. Upon installation, it was determined that the estimator made a significant error in calculating the amount of fencing needed for the desired enclosure. There was too little fencing ordered; therefore, the fence had to be redesigned and made smaller. Two bags of quick-crete concrete were also left on the site. This led us to investigate. It was determined that the installers only used the concrete to secure the gate posts, as opposed to all of the posts. This resulted in several posts leaning and sinking into the ground. The installers also mistakenly drilled 14 holes in the vinyl fencing. They had placed the locking mechanisms for the gates in the wrong place, had to move them, and the left the holes. These holes are unsightly and in full view from the backyard. Additionally, pickets are leaning, the fence posts are not in a straight line, gate posts are uneven which hinders the closing of the gate, and the corners are not square. The owner and estimator were notified about the problems. The estimator accepted responsibility and told us the problems would be taken care of; however, we are getting the run-a-round from the owner. Three months ago, Litchfield Hills Fencing was sold to Winchester Fence. I spoke to the owner of Winchester Fence in an attempt to resolve these problems. No resolution was reached. This fence was installed a year ago, and we are tired of everyone's excuses. In May 2012, we filed a complaint with the CT Better Business Bureau and still nothing was resolved. Recently, I had two independent fencing contractors (listed as A ratings on Angie's list) evaluate the fence. They confirmed the problems and gave us their recommendations. We have recently filed a complaint with the CT Department of Consumer Protection for investigation and resolution. Fifteen pictures were attached to our complaint to justify our claim. About six weeks after we filed a complaint with the Department of Consumer Protection, we received a call from Litchfield Hill Fencing. They offered to make the necessary repairs. Over the following month, the fence posts were replaced and reset with concrete, and the sections were straightened out. The representative stated that they would order a new gate; however, they just repaired the holes in the gate and did not order a new one. We were happy that these things were finally taken care of. The fencing representative was very polite and apologetic. They were very easy to work with. I only wish that this gentleman was the one who would have installed the fence in the first place. It would have saved us alot of aggravation.
