Safeside Chimney & Duct Cleaning

Safeside was supposed to clean our chimney today between 8-11 a.m. When I called at 11 to learn where the technician was, I I was informed that they were not coming today and had to cancel the appointment. I asked why they hadn't called to cancel and learned that they hadn't gotten to us yet.

The Service providers were young and very professional. They arrived a little late, but not enough to concern me as they had a long way to travel. I had mistakenly scheduled another contractor to do some work in the attic and Safeside worked well with them to minimize any complications. I was especially pleased that they didn't tell me that duct cleaning had to be done annually. I had researched the topic and learned that it isn't required on a regular basis, and Safeside confirmed that fact. The providers also did not push any other work, such as sanitizing, but simply asked if I was interested in having it done.

A job well done! Arrived on time. Very pleasant . Entire process went well. Left house clean.

No one got back to me. I called the company and spoke to a manager/specicalist. He said they're still reviewing my situation. He would get back to me in a couple of days. Well needless to say that NO ONE called back.

There were a couple of glitches, but they were fixed later. They need to explain better what they are doing and why.

They came to do the cleaning. Did not explain what they where doing or how the chimney looked after cleaning. Had to press them for any information. They really failed during the quoting of the new chimney liner. Before they measured anything they just gave me a quote as they walked in the door. Could not tell me how tall the chimney was, what the brand or quality of the liner was, what was included. Did not include any details in quote. The company called me later to ask if I had any questions about the quote. Again horrible service and could not clarify what was included in the quote and after pressing they could not determine what grade of liner that was going to be use. In the end they did not represent themselves as experts in the field or someone I would want to do business with in the future.

They were in and out real quick. I had them come to clean both my chimneys but one they said was probably never used by the previous owner so they only charged for the 1.

I chose not to go with them as they wanted a deposit on the spot. Also, as they were up on the roof inspecting the chimney they began to chip out huge chunks of mortar that no other contractor did when inspecting the chimney. They left gaping holes and dropped a bunch of mortar into the gutters right after i had them cleaned. Also, it was warm and said they would need to fully turn off the air conditioner and cover it since it was in the way. The work was done by another contractor who didnt request the same and didnt ask to have the air conditioner covered.

We purchased a large insert wood stove from them a few years ago (knowing we were choosing the product from them based on the need for ongoing service). Instillation was fine a few years ago and cleaning was fine last year. This year, multiple calls were needed to the store as we need new bricks for the stove. (One hand did not know what the other was doing)- and they had the wrong stove recorded in their purchase records. We looked up the bricks that were needed and gave them the model number of the stove. We told them they could clean our chimney and stove (knowing we were paying about $80.00 more than what we can get from using a "newspaper guy" ad)- with the statement- bring stove replacement bricks (that we would pay additional for and install at the same time). It took 3 phone calls to get the order correct-- then the order was placed and date was made to install & clean at the same time- or reschedule. We confirmed with them 24 hrs in advance (and the secretary verified that the bricks were there). The appointment was for 9-noon --- they arrived 10minutes before noon. Driver arrived- had partner climb chimney immediately on arrival. By the time it was discovered they did not bring the bricks -- the top part of the chimney was already cleaned. Driver said he knew nothing about bricks- and we would not be getting them during this visit. Since I was not there and left my spouse to handle this visit -- pressure was placed to complete the cleaning (even though the appointment was clearly made for both jobs to be completed at once -- or to be rescheduled.. The cleaning was performed, we paid. Interestingly enough the customer service man called and left a message on the machine a few days later reminding us that we should have the chimney cap done and water proofed (winter is coming)--- which we are HAPPY to do and realize it needs to be done-- No mention about the bricks, the problem of not having the promised bricks. So, yes we will be having our cap done and water proofed. No we will NOT be using Safeside- they do NOT have their act together. No we still do not have the stove replacement bricks. I will update this post- if anything changes. ....So, I said I would update you if anything changed. After posting this on Angies list- the manager called me and appologized for the miscommunication and have now identified that Safeside has a communication problem when items/services (outside of the norm) are requested. The manager stated they are working on this. I decided to give them another chance. Came ontime. I had them order the correct bricks for the woodburning stove liner-- which they intalled--- Very happy. I also had them take out the old crown and make a new one and then waterproof the exterior chimney.-- Very happy with service. The 2 men that came very polite and professional. Cleaned up. Took pictures of the crown before, during and after for me. Any business can have a work/communication problem. It's how it is dealt with. I edited my ratings for them based on my final experience with them. It comes down to owning the problem and then fixing it. Would I use them again-- yes they fixed the problems and made good on the services.

2 workers were prompt and courteous. They performed the work, took pictures, and explained what they were doing. My only complaint is that they presented so much information so quickly, that it seemed very much like a sales call. i understand that once they get up there, they might see some issues and/or have some recommendations, but what started out as a $400+/- regular cleaning, quickly would have added up to to well over $1,000 if i had allowed them to do everything. Not saying that i the recommended repairs weren't legitimate, just presenting the information so fast and with such heavy price tags, that it seemed like they were there to sell.

Called for a chimney cleaning and general inspection. Two man team arrived right on time in a truck clearly marked with company logos. Very polite. My chimney vents only the oil boiler - no fireplace. The tech explained how chimneys work, how boiler/furnace exhaust impacts chimneys, and why the ceramic lining had pretty much collapsed at the bottom of the chimney, allowing erosion of the outside layer bricks and mortar (which he showed me in detail). Skipped the cleaning since I decided to have a liner installed. The company followed up quickly with a call to schedule the liner installation. Another two-man team arrived right on time on the 30th, inspected the chimney, and started to work right away. Finished quickly with no bother to me at all.

The tech cleaned out the debris so that fumes no longer backed up and also replaced the chimney cap. We found out several weeks later that there was extensive damage to the flue and chimney above the roof line. A liner had to be installed and the chimney rebuilt from the roof up. We believe that the technician could have detected this when installing the chimney cap. However, Safeside did respond quickly and effectively to the original emergency call and resolved the problem at hand.

The crew was very punctual and professional. They performed the job quickly and didn't leave any mess. The chimney cap looks nice from where I stand, 30 feet below.

I was happy enough with their service that I called them back to get the chimney cap done. They came when they said they would and did a good job. I didn't need to be home for them to put the cap on. I also had them come out to clean the air ducts as well later - for about 418.00. We did have a couple snow storms that caused some cancellations of appointments, but they were good about getting back and rescheduling. The chimney cap went on just fine. On the whole it was okay.

Very professional, kept coming back until chimney stopped leaking.

They were very considerate of my house, i.e. making a mess. Extremely professional , explained everything without being condescending. The chimney leaked a couple of times- but they kept coming back until it was fixed at no charge. I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation.

He showed on time, job only took 15-20 minutes. Left the place cleaner that when he started.

scheduling the work was a horror story. They called once and said they would be be there and never showed. Then weeks latter they showed up. When all was said an done one chimney cap just did not look right. Had some one else come and he fixed the cap and in process rebuilt chimney

The service was very good. The technicians put down drop clothes for debris. After they were done they cleaned up the entire area, no mess was left.

I had 2 years worth of fires in my fireplace since last cleaning, so I thought my flue would be due for a cleaning. Two guys came and were done in about 10 mins. Either it was clean and didn't need the job, or it wasn't cleaned very well. Same company came out 2 years before, and the guys were up on the roof, in the house, and it took them over an hour, they told me the condition of the flue before and after the cleaning, the condition and integrity of the masonry, etc. This time the guy said the condition was "average", took the check and left. I don't know, maybe a flue can be cleaned in less than 10 mins, but after the previous time with the same company, I just don't believe it.

This company was quick to respond and very professional. They were a bit busy so the service was done about 2 weeks after I called. I suppose you know a company is good when you have to wait :) I'm sure based on the experience, had it been an emergency, they would've come sooner! They also called after the service, to make sure we were satisfied and to let us know about a few things that should be done in the future! Very appreciated!

Very well. Arrived on time, was very professional. Did the work cleanly and timely. Advised me of the conditions of the flues, especially the one that was not capped. There was some damage, but would not worsen with the addition of a cap, which i had installed. Signed up with them to do annual chimney sweeping.

They were fine; the first time they came to do the chimney and general inspection they took a digital camera up on the roof to take photographs of the chimney so they could illustrate what they were talking about when they were telling me about it; so that was good. I asked them to email me the photographs so I could show my husband but they forgot to do that so that never happened. But, they were polite and I felt trust in them; I hope it was not misplaced. They were clean and efficient. I feel more secure using my fireplace now than I did before.

great service, did full cleanup atcompletion of job.

The only problem was communication of time someone would be out to the house which caused some inconveniences trying to work around our work schedule.. It took 3 separate appts. before they finally came out and the cancellations/changes were on their part.
