Joseph Abbate Plumbing & Heating Contractors Inc

I contacted Joseph Abbate Plumbing for a house that I purchased in September 2015, which was previously a foreclosure. The house had sat unoccupied for quite a while and there were many projects that needed to take place. I contacted Joe about the Energize CT program which would allow for a 0% APR loan if the heating unit of a house was updated to a 90% high efficiency (or above model). After talking to over 10 contractors and getting quotes from $6500 cash - $14000, I met with Joe and could not have been happier. He gave me a reasonable quote, and was very polite and professional throughout the whole process. He really listened to what I wanted and what I was looking for, as opposed to some of the other contractors who seemed to be trying to squeeze every possible cent out of my pocket. He helped me through the entire progress of qualifying and obtaining the loan, which was extremely helpful (as I would have been lost without his assistance). His team actually worked on the house as we were slowly moving in and they were able to get everything done in time so that we had heat before we actually moved the last of our furniture. During their time at the house they were all very polite and professional and I had no issues of any type. They cleaned up every day before leaving and we never had any issues with any of the workers he had on site. Joe himself was onsite many times to supervise and ensure that progress was going smoothly. He was in constant contact with me in order to keep me appraised off the anticipated finish date and for any issues that came up along the way. I have had to contact him 2 times since it was installed due to minor leaks that were found in the system. Both of them probably could have been fixed by tightening a nut here or there, but I am nervous about doing any type of plumbing work for fear of flooding my basement. That being said, each time I contacted him with an issue he called me back right away (the most recent time he even called me back after hours and then early the next morning). Both times he had someone out to my house within hours to assess the situation and solve the problem. Both times the gentleman who came was exceptionally nice and respectful, and he was able to resolve the problem in under 30 minutes. Overall I am exceptionally satisfied with the work I received from Joseph Abbate Plumbing & Heating Contractors Inc and I would certainly never hesitate to recommend them to others.

It was fine. Scheduling was a little difficult. I did not feel like a priority with regard to scheduling.

They did well. They came when they said they would come. I felt reasonable in their cost, did their job well and left no messes.

Excellently. I had an Angies coupon that I held on to for a while - I was hoping to use it to do a minor little upgrade in one of the bathrooms. But I had a leaking valve under the kitchen sink, so I used it for that. First I called and they discussed the coupon and the limitations of it, which was fine. I like that kind of up front honesty. They gave me a great price and honored their coupon. We scheduled an appointment, they actually had someone in town so they called and got here earlier than planned. GREAT! They checked the valve under the sink. Then checked the basement to see if another pipe next to it that looks a little dicey was leaking. (fortunately it wasn't.) . Replaced the valve Dscussed the possibility that ugly pipe may have to be replaced in the future (a more serious job) and gave me a ballpark price, explaining costs and labor. Discussed how to keep the cost down if and when we need to do the job. Throughout they were flexible and helpful. I want to add before this incident, I had a boiler issue and I thought I'd use my coupon then, but they were helpful enough and steered me towards calling CT Gas to make the repair since I had a service and repair contract with them. They're a business, so they're about making money. But they don't fleece you, they're honest, they explain their costs and prices and they'll work with you. I like that a lot.

He came in, put in the faucet, and everything was okay.

They are always on time, very efficient and clean with their work. The owner always calls back to make the appointments and to see what the problems are.

I was pleased with the work, not so happy with the owner. His workers arrived pretty much on time, and didn't seem to understand how a Groupon discount worked. I purchased a Groupon for $29, worth $95 for 1 service call and 1 hour inspection. I needed work done, this would give me a $66 discount in the service call. Spoke with the owner by phone after the workers couldn't resolve it, and the owner gave me $29 off the $95 charge when the Groupon should have taken care of the whole $95 charge. Anytime I have to argue with an owner I usually won't hire them again, and in this case I won't. Doesn't matter if the job was done well, Mr Abbate could not or did not want to acknowledge I was his customer. By the way, I did look up the cost of the material and I was overcharged for that also. I would advise anyone considering using them to be prepared to send them home if they behave this way.

NO CALL OR VISIT ~ they just took my money!!!

Went great!. The owner did the estimate and supervised the work. The workers were prompt, courteous, professional, rapid and neat.

I trying to replace my toilet seat I inadvertently loosened something connected to the toilet tank. I am disabled and had difficulty bending and seeing what I was doing. The plumber, with an apprentice, responded promptly, in a reasonable amount of time, found and repaired the leak and cleaned up after themselves. Very satisfied with their performance.

The cold water faucet for the water into my washing machine was leaking. They replaced the o-rings in both the hot and cold faucets. The problem was fixed! I had the same problem a few years ago and the plumber that dealt with the problem then charged me more so I was very pleased with the cost of this service.

I was so impressed with how prompt he was. Everything went so smoothely and I would highly recommend him. This has happenned on multiple occassions. The prices I would've expected to be much higher. I would give him an A+ for everything if I could.

Arrived on time for appointment to provide estimate. Abbate provided information and recommendations regarding types of gas-fired boiler systems (efficient and very enery-efficient systems) and same for the 18-year old water heater. Other contractor presented other systems and manufacturers. Abbate said right up front that the chimney would need to be lined. The house is about 100 years old; the other contractor did not mention chimney re-lining. Given that the chimney work was about $2000, it became a big part of the budget and would have been a disaster to omit from the project budget. Abbate's contractors did the system work. Came back the next day to complete removal of the oil tank. The next day, I found that our attic, which is on its own zone with a low temperature setting, was registering about 75 degrees. Called Abbate that evening; contractors returned the next day. The boiler wiring for the zones had not been hooked up to the correct thermostats. Contractors re-wired the zone connections and everything seemed fine. Some water on the floor under the new boiler; assumed that was from emptying out the old one. Few days later, even more water under the boiler and extended to under the water heater. Called Abbate that evening. Contractors returned the next day. Determined boiler unit was defective. Plan is to replace the unit next week. I appreciate the responsiveness of Abbate; do not appreciate the necessity for the responsiveness.

We hadn't had the heating system inspected since moving into the house the previous year. When Angie's List offered a coupon for Joseph Abbate Plumbing and Heating we grabbed it because they are the company that installed the system years earlier. We made an appointment, two knowledgeable men showed up on time and checked things out. They took the time to explain a few things about our boiler to us. We have since called Mr. Abbate for another project and were very happy with that work as well.

no one returned my phone call asking for a quote

I had a fairly simple repair to a broken pipe. This involved cutting a hole in the dry wall to gain access and soldering on a new pipe for a shower diverter/faucet. Quote was $450!! Decided not to take their offer. Took me 10 minutes to cut through the dry wall myself and found a friend who knew how to do soldering. Pipe was repaired in less than 1 hour by an amateur. I called because of the high rating of their work, and never got to see that, but agree with all the other comments on price! Do not believe the Big Deal, they do not honor the part of the deal that implies the charge can be applied to work done, they would not allow the value of the deal to be applied to the work. Had to get my money back from Angies list.

The plumber who arrived at the house to do the actual work was not the owner of the company who originally returned our call to set up the appointment. This plumber was not very customer oriented, and when asked questions, there was little feedback other than straight yes and no answers. The coupon listed on Angie's List was deceiving in that it stated the $29 was for a plumbing service call and a 1 hour plumbing inspection. This was not the case as they did not honor that $29 coupon for the price of a service call and stated that and quot;the coupon was printed incorrectly.and quot; The bill did not break down the part charge vs. the labor charge, so we have no idea how much either was individually. The plumber was here for no more than 15 minutes, start to finish. The invoice came to $189 for this one part and 15 minutes of labor, and there was an Angie's List discount of $25 deducted bringing the total charge to $174.41. We would not use the services of this company again.

I am extremely happy with their work and I am having them come out soon to install a new faucet on my tub sink.

Came on time and performed services the same day as they came for the estimate. Used a Big Deal coupon and applied it appropriately. I was very satisfied with the work and would use again.

I called on Monday to have someone come give me a quote on a garbage disposal installation. The gentleman gave me the quote over the phone and also gave me some advice on the disposal itself. I had purchased a replacement disposal at Lowe's - I brought the same one we had. He let me know that was the base model and offered better models. I returned the disposal and purchased one he recommended. They came out on Wednesday morning to do the work and it took the two guys maybe a half hour. They asked proactively for any coupons from angieslist which I was impressed by. Overall, I am very satisfied and would definitely use their services again.

They were very responsive. Came to estimate very quickly after intial contact. Provided explainations for how and why they would approach the issues with their solutions. Even gave me a reference for another contractor to help with part of the job that was beyond the plumbing scope. The estimate was very reasonable and fair. We opted to use an alternate provider who offered a different solution to some of the issues, but Mr. Abbate was our next choice.

My experience was great. The quality was very good. They were great with everything they did.

Joes guys showed up on time and were great to deal with. They were done in a little over 2.5 hours. They laughed as much as I did when the old plumbing came out and we could see how blocked it was after 82 years.

Generally I think they're reasonably priced and always prompt, but do get a quote in advance and shop around, as always. Once around 10 years ago I didn't do that and was charged $500 to install a utility sink in the basement that I had already purchased and assembled myself, even attaching the faucet hardware! The plumbers (they sent 2 for tis job) just had to run about 10 feet of new copper pipe and do the hookup and new drain pipes. Took them over 4 hours for what seemed should've been done in 1 or 1-1/2 hrs! $500, 10 yrs. ago! When I complained about the price, Joe Abbate did knock some off the bill. That was my only bad experience. So, if it's more than a leaky faucet, get an estimate up front, and ask what the hourly rate is for the particular job you have in mind.
