Description of Work: We had carpeting replaced in our new home in 3 bedrooms and had a runner placed on the steps. We have used Empire in the past. Their price is very competitive and the quality of the carpet stands up to the test of time and 4 dogs and 2 cats. We were very happy with the installation.

Description of Work: Our experience with Empire Today in reality was 2 experiences. We have combined ratings for each "adventure" to the ones above. Our story is quite simple, we ordered a carpet for our bedroom in the middle of August. The process was quite painless. We made an internet request for an appointment, got a call from a scheduler, and the sales rep arrived as requested. She was very professional in dealing with my wife and me. She talked to us about what exactly we wanted, measured the room, and showed us samples. We chose the carpet we liked. In the process of this, the rep told us the carpet we |ultimately choose would take about 10 days to come in. We were going to be traveling and requested a September 21st installation. We received an email reminding us of the date, our obligations, and that they would contact us early on Sept 21st to give us an arrival window. We received a call at 8:45AM telling us that our carpet had not come in and they would let us know |when it arrived. We immediately contacted the sales rep who made an appointment to see us that afternoon. When she arrived, she told us the carpet had been discontinued, but Empire had leaned on the manufacturer because Empire was never notified of the discontinuance. The manufacturer said they would fulfill the order, and we should be able to get it in 10 days. We had waited long enough and choose a different carpet which was more expensive, but Empire extended the price difference as a courtesy for the inconvenience and aggravation. We chose Sep 25 as our install date. This time everything went as it should have. Got the call in the morning and the installers arrived within that window. They did an excellent job of moving, removing the old carpet, installing new, and cleaning up. Our rating for the failed carpet of course is very low. They handled the problem well and we are enjoying our new carpet. I would not hesitate to contact them again as the need arises. |

Description of Work: Contractors were great but Empire themselves tried to substitute a cheaper wood in place of the one I paid for TWICE. I had to argue with the warehouse Manager for two days and in the end he was over ruled by the sales director because he would not accept that he was wrong. Even the contractors ( two separate teams ) said he was wrong. When all was said and done the contractors were great but the actions and attitude of the Warehouse Manager have made it unlikely I would ever consider them again.

+ -1 moreThe salesman was my main problem with the transaction. He tried to tell me that carpets with a 10 or 15 year warranty are no better than ones with 5 year warranty. He tried to tell me that an 8lb pad is no better than a 6 pound pad and that the only thing one needs is a vapor barrier. Every other place... the home improvement centers and a small shop all told me things contrary to what this salesman told me. I would have appreciated a more honest approach. Something along the lines of "yes, you can pay more elsewhere for higher quality but you will have to wait three weeks to get it". My other complaint is that they have a small selection. I would have been willing to pay more for a higher quality carpet with a longer warranty (10yr). I went with them because I needed carpet faster than the others could provide. The guys who came to install the carpet were great and did a great job. The carpet is in and looks good.

+ -1 morePretty good- we had picked out 2 different berbers, one for bedroom and one for stairs. The house was vacant when the job was done and it wasn't until after the stairs were completed that we noticed the carpet was the wrong kind, On checking the original work order that my husband had signed it showed only one type of carpet. Despite this, Empire sent their crew back and free of charge removed the wrong color stair carpet. Although we made the mistake in signing off on the order, the salesman was a little distracted when we were picking out the carpet and so part of the error was his fault. The way Empire's customer service dept handled it was very impressive.
Description of Work: Removed carpet from 2 bedrooms and re-carpeted, plus carpeted stairs.

+ -1 moreInstallers left product stickers all over (that is how I found out about the poor quality of the laminate) and forgot to hook my washer back so that I was without a washer for a few days until they had someone available to hook back up. The biggest issue is I was shown a different, thicker laminate by the salesman than what was placed on my floors. I was told I was getting American Dream (Shaw Manufacturers). When I questioned the installers, I was told don't worry, once they link together it will be thicker. Unfortunately, they finished in the evening when it was dark and I didn't see the plastic like quality of the laminate until the next day. I was told by the installers I had to complete the evaluation immediately. I e-mailed a complaint, spoke with a consumer representative from the North Haven office who was not helpful at all. Now, that I am aware of this practice, I am reading similar complaints on the internet from other dissatisfied customers. I was taken by this company. I contacted Better Business Bureau and I still am not satisfied. It seems that if I want this resolved I will have to pay for arbitration. Empire Today has stated they will upgrade the flooring for a fee, yet they only have one type of laminate flooring. BBB never comments so I am not sure of the role they play in this. This has been a very frustrating experience. Please do not allow this to happen to anyone else.

+ -1 moreThe whole process was smooth and pleasant. The installers called ahead to give a time of arrival and showed up as promised. They went straight to work. At the end we inspected the job and was very pleased in how it was done. Now I can't wait for them to do our other bedroom.
Description of Work: We needed carpet for our bedroom. Bruce, the sales rep, came on time and brought the carpet samples that were on sale. The selection was good and the price better than expected. Bruce listened to our needs and didn't try to sell more carpet than we needed.

They were efficient, professional and they did a good job cleaning up when they were finished. There was nothing that I disliked about this company.

+ -1 moreSalesman was on time and called on his way to let us know when he was going to show up. Saleman was very knowledgeable and not pushy. He only recommended extras such as waterproof pad as we have two small children and a dog. Recommended carpets that wear well. Salesman was not in a hurry and very helpful. Installers were courteous and on-time. Worked hard and cleaned up after themselves. We only needed to do a small amount of vacuuming as a few stray fibers were around. My wife noticed a bump on the stairs and they fixed it immediately. Also, the lead installer inspected the job and corrected a minor seam issue near our marble fire place. Overall good job, quick sales call, quick installation. We were not looking for cheap carpet and feel we did get what we paid for. No hidden extras, fees or taxes.
Description of Work: Installed carpet in living room, stairway and landing at the top of the stairs. Installation included removal and haul away of old carpet and padding. Also paid for workers to move furniture so we did not have to re-arrange furniture. Installed quality Berber carpet with waterproof padding.
