Description of Work: They didn't do this job, however they were diligent in assisting me in finding a provider that could. Now a days, you don't see that. Most contractors will tell you they can do a job just to get the job, regardless if they could or not. I felt this company has a great deal of integrity and when I am in need of their services, they will absolutely be my first call.

+ 0 moreOne thing I disliked is that the job lasted longer than it was anticipated because they sent a number of people, but the number of people wasn’t the number I expected. So, instead of a one-day it became a three days job. The pricing was reasonable. They did a good job.

+ -1 moreMy wife and I went to the showroom in Hamden and were immediately greeted by Rick Lawler. We explained the scope of our project and he took it from there. We were shown several different grades of carpet and multiple examples of laminate flooring. I think we were with Rick for an hour or more. We made some preliminary decisions on product and arranged for a measurement appointment. We made Rick aware of our pets and he suggested a modest upgrade to the carpet padding for peace of mind (less than $150 overall). Rick sent us home with carpet and laminate samples to make sure it looked as good at home as it did in our vision at the showroom. The measurement appointment went as scheduled with Rick arriving on time. He was thorough and made sure that his numbers were accurate. We asked to schedule installation on a specific date as our schedules are crazy.The dates were agreed to and later confirmed by email. The installers arrived within the time window promised and went to work. The job site was left clean and neat at the end of the day. We are very pleased with the end product. I give them a B for price as they are not the least expensive provider in our market. However, the level of customer service and the quality of the install are my major concerns related to this type of improvement. There is a reason that they consistently receive high marks and paying a little more for this quality.
Description of Work: I am a firm believer in Angie's List and the accuracy of reviews and grading. This project was handled wonderfully by Sullivan and Son's. We had both carpeting (3 bedrooms) and laminate (200 ft sq hallway) installed.

+ -1 moreSo, this is why you go to a more personal, family business and not a large big block store A year ago, we went to Sullivan and Son and picked out a very expensive cork floor for our kitchen. Within a year, with ordinary wear and tear, the floor started to erode. We visited Sullivan and Son and showed them a photo of the floor. Within a week they came out to take a look. Right then and there, they told us the floor was compromised and they would replace it free of charge. Brad Sullivan, and all office staff was extremely professioanl and was in constant touch by email; I never had trouble reaching them and they were very prompt and patient in answering our questions. Within a few weeks, I scheduled a new appointment and had a beautiful new hardwood floor...decided to stay away from the cork this time! The installation was fast, clean and professional. Brad even emailed me for a follow up to see how everything went...can't imagine a larger store doing that or making this process more painful. I will return for some of those rugs.....

+ -1 moreThe salesperson let me bring samples home, and didn't rush my decision or push me toward a certain brand. He did reply to all my questions. The three installers finished in one day and were quick and efficient. They moved furniture, and everything was put back exactly, and the carpet looks great.

+ -1 moreI called on 11/12/12 to see if Sullivan & Son could put new carpet in my closet. I had leftover carpet from the original job, so I just needed it installed. I could not find any other installers interested in doing such a small job. When I called Sullivan & Son they were very pleasant, extremely accommodating and willing to do a small job. They even offered to install it the next day! They arrived on time, completed the work within an hour, and I was pleased with the result. They removed the old carpet without being asked. They told me up front that their minimum charge is $150 but it was well worth it to me. I would definitely use their services again!
Description of Work: Sullivan & Son replaced carpet in a 6' x 7' closet in my home.

+ 0 moreI can't say enough about how well we were treated from the moment we walked into their store to look for flooring and carpet to the moment the installers left our home this afternoon. Truly a professional staff that made you feel right at home. They did not push for a sale but let us look around. Once we decided they gave us samples to take home. Came out within the week to measure the rooms and place the orders for the carpet and flooring. Our kitchen, dining room, living room, hallway and stairs didn't look this good the day we bought the house and it was brand new! I would definitely go to them again for any type of floor covering. They always treated us with a smile and ready to answer any questions we had. The quality of their flooring is excellant along with the quality of the installers. They were also pleasant and professional. Thank you Sullivan & Sons!
Description of Work: Replace kitchen flooring. Remove and take away old carpet from dining room, living room, stairway/landing, and hallway. Installed new padding and carpet. Installers also moved the heavier pieces of furniture before the work began and replaced it all when the job was complete.

The 3 installers moved the beds and furniture (we had emptied most of the chests and drawers), took out the old carpets and pads and installed the new pads and carpeting. They worked efficiently and cheerfully, and replaced the furniture they had moved after the installation was complete. The work was professional and efficient. It was a major investment and we are quite satisfied with the result. The carpet feels wonderful and is very secure on the stairs, which had been a concern to us. It was obvious that the installers had considerable experience and training.
Description of Work: We chose them partly because they have been in the community for many years and have good reputation. We asked them for an estimate to replace the carpeting on our entire upstairs: 4 bedrooms, hallway and stairs. They presented us with a detailed estimate, including removal of the old carpet and pads, moving of furniture and laying of the new carpet. We looked at their showroom and the vast number of possibilities we had to choose from, both in style and quality. We chose one of the better qualities of carpet and decided to use it throughout. We set an installation date; they called to move it sooner rather than later. We were able to do this and the installation went smoothly, done by three men in one day.

Description of Work: Contact with this company included telephone calls and visit to our home to discuss the job and give us an estimate. We need to have a porcelain tile floor repaired (loose tiles and cracking and missing grout) after having an incorrect/inadequate installation 5 months earlier. It was easy to contact them by phone and get information. An appointment was made on the second contact, 2 days later. On the day of the appointment, after telling them that no one would be available until 7:15 PM, I received a call on my cell phone at 6:30 PM telling me that the company rep was lost. He was only 2 miles from our home and it was only 6:30 PM! I was close by him picking up subs for dinner so that we could eat quickly BEFORE he arrived. He followed me home after telling me that he came out early because he was driving his son's car that had no headlights and had to be home before dark! The inside of the vehicle looked like the inside of a dumpster filled with garbage and the vehicle had no muffler. It looked and sounded like a junk car. He also spent about 10 minutes discussing his son and his car rather than answering our questions and sticking to business. Our time is precious and limited and we did not appreciate this. Our job requires just repair and not the installation of a whole new floor. He would not even discuss that and said that the company would not warrantee the job unless we had them rip out the entire tile floor and subfloor and remove all the cabinets with sink and countertop to do it. He said our only other option would be to install another tile floor on top of the existing tile floor! This would raise the floor height more than one inch above the rest of the floors in the house and make opening and closing the newly replaced and installed doors in the rooms affected inoperable! Furthermore, the job would have required a plumber to come in and reinstall a toilet and modify all of the baseboard heating units in the rooms with the new floor! After discussing his options and his lack of professionalism we decided not to hire the company. We also did not like the fact that he was 45 minutes early! To us, this was very inconvenient as we had to let our hot subs sit and get cold and we were very hungry. He was also very unprofessional in his appearance and demeanor and seemed very nervous the whole time. When we tried to leave messages for him yesterday with other staff at the company, the messages were not relayed to him even after I spoke with someone at the store and told him that we were not inerested in their services. Based on our experience with this company we would not recommend them.

Everything was done when we were told it would be. We are happy with our carpeting and happy with the service. If we need more carpeting, we will go to Sullivan Carpets.
Description of Work: Carpeting that we picked out was installed on our stairs, and a runner was installed in our hallway and an area rug installed on the landing near the front door. The carpet is an excellent quality and the price was reasonable. Measuring and installation was done when we were told it would be. We are very satisfied and would use this company again.

I didn't get a written estimate and they had said they would move my furniture at the price they quoted. when i accepted the offer they said the quote didn't include moving furniture. I decided to get another estimate and then they agreed to do it all for the price they quoted me. my only other issue is that when they moved my furniture they damaged a few things and didn't tell me. i found out later on. The job took three days, just what they said and the floors look great. Overall a good job.

+ -1 moreI was given an estimate to move furniture and stretch the carpet in one bedroom--$150. I originally had an estimate of $99 from a vendor that is not on Angie's list. The Sullivan team was forty minutes late. I had scheduled carpet cleaning by the time Sullivan said they would be done. Since they were late, I moved a heavy bed and dresser, myself. The job took about a half hour. I told the installers that I would pay $100 for the repair, but not for the furniture moving. They referred me to the manager, who told me that they always charge a minimum of $150. When I said I would report them to Angie's List, they didn't seem to care.

+ -1 moreSullivan & Sons was enthusiastically recommended to us by our next door neighbor. They were very accessible by phone and were amenable to our time-line. They came right away to remove the old carpet to allow us time to treat for mildew, etc. while we waited for the new carpet to come in. The installers showed up within the scheduled time frame. The installation of the new carpet was fast (less than 90 minutes) and very professional--we can't see any seams, even near where they had to work around a support pillar. The Hamden showroom has a very nice selection of colors/materials/etc. For carpeting, I would definitely go back to Sullivan & Sons for any other carpeting jobs.
