e See above. One side benefit was that after the cancellation of my Met-Life Homeowners policy, I was forced to shop around, and wound up with the same if not better coverage from Liberty Mutual at over $400 LESS a year. As my mortgage has been paid off for a few years now, and I just recently retired, that savings will do a lot of good. I would never recommend them as general contractors, they seemed to have NO handle on what the subs were doing. The carpenters etc. they had working for them had MAD skills, but given the choice, I'd be my own GC and hire them on my own. The cost was crazy high, I could've bought a brand new house with that kind of cash, but I was given NO choice. They were hired by the private insurance adjuster that I signed on with, at a VERY steep price, DePino Adjusters out of the Hartford CT area. Them, I'd avoid like leprosy.
Description of Work: After a house fire in February 2012, NERS/Archon came in to pretty much rebuild my home from foundation to attic. Although it took nearly three months longer than the original timeline, the work they did was very good to excellent. I DID have to move into the house prior to completion, in order to get them moving, and it took more than one screaming fit from me to get them to MOVE, once they did I was satisfied, and I am not an easy man to please. Then again, what I had to outburst over were things left undone, no heat or hot water, no storm doors, a brand new refridgerator left in the middle of the living room, and not enough clearance to get it through the doorways, dumpster left overflowing, A/C vents no where to be found, things like that. Actually minor things, but when lumped together with 3 months late deadline, were enough to make me shout at the project manager until I thought he was going to cry. But as I mentioned, the work was done well and my must-do list WAS completed. One major problem encountered was that my salvageable possessions were quite literally thrown into cardboard boxes, or wrapped in bubble wrap, and tossed into the storage POD in my front yard, causing me to lose much of my things to mold and mildew. One thing was a numbered signed Mondrian lithograph, worth close to $10K. By the time I found it in the rear of the POD, the insurance already paid off the claim, and promptly cancelled my policy. There was nothing I could do about it. The same thing with two nearly new mattress sets, one Tempurpedic and one Sealy, costing me just three years ago well over $5,000. The only thing I could do was buy new ones.
