I brought my daughters lap top computer to them to repair the DC power jack which is used for supplying electrical power to the computer. It was obvious that the jack needed repair because part of it was missing. They told me it would be about $150 plus the part, which should be about $25, and took a $60 +tax deposit. They called me a week later and told me it would be $284 to repair it. So I went to the shop and discussed it with their technician. He had not taken the computer apart and had only priced the part that needed to be replaced. He also said the AC adapter needed to be replaced as well as the DC power jack. He wouldn't consider any alternate repair using less expensive parts, so I took the computer back. They kept my deposit. I subsequently sent the computer to a place in Virginia who repaired it for $79.99 plus shipping, which amounted to $20 each way, including insurance. The AC adapter didn't need to be replaced and the computer is working perfectly. So the place in Virginia repaired it for a total cost to me of less than $120, whereas PC Cleaning & Recovery wanted $284. I feel that PC Cleaning and Recovery didn't do enough to justify keeping the $60 deposit, they were uncooperative in exploring alternate, less expensive fixes, and my experience with them was very unsatisfactory. Although I suspected that I could get it fixed somewhat cheaper over the internet, I was trying to support a local business. It's businesses like theirs that drives people to the internet, then they complain that we don't support local businesses.
