Mr. Handyman of Upper Fairfield County

From the beginning they were very pleasant to deal with, easy to get in touch with, and they did all the work as promised and on time. Very pleased.

I thought this would be a small job, and the quote was $650. to almost $950. but they were available immediately. I guess I thought it would be the lower price, but it was actually the higher amount. Know if you use this group, it is expensive, but the work will be done.

I was very happy with them. It was the first time I had used them. They were prompt and their prices were reasonable.

We saw this company's vans around town and decided to try them out for the basic job described above. Upon calling it was disclosed that they charge $50 for a quote, which would be rebated if you went with them for the job. Fair enough. The worker showed up within a couple of days to inspect the job and then we called to get the quote a couple days after that. To our shock, the quote came in at around $1,000, which is multiples higher than it should have been. When I expressed our surprise, the manager (owner?) explained to me over the phone the intricacies that would be involved, including installation of rebar in the concrete (definitely overkill for a simple step on the floor of a basement). We really felt duped and upset about the quote, and ultimately went with another company that charged $200 for the job. I don't consider the quote we received from Mr. Handyman to be bona fide. It was way too out of bounds to be serious. Because of this, while it was understood at the beginning, not getting our $50 "deposit" back just added insult to injury.

They always arrived on time and were extremely professional. The work was top-notch. This was actually our second time using them after they did work on our bathroom.

I maybe could have found someone for less, but for the quality, warranty, and ease of transaction, and cleanup, for my money it was worth it.

They returned my call the same day and worked around my schedule. The fence was built and installed in time for a party we were having the following week and it looks perfect. They are highly professional and great to work with. We wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Over the past year, my list of "things that need fixing" was growing longer. Each item was small in itself: replacing a bathroom exhaust fan, fixing a window crank, reinstalling ceiling smoke detectors, installing new door handles on bedroom and bathroom doors, taking over-sized items to the dump and installing closet doors. The last item finally prompted me to join Angie's List and do a serious search for a handyman. Mr. Handyman of Upper Fairfield County was the perfect resource. Although I had to delay new closet doors, Mr. Handyman took care of all the other small-but-essential items. The technician, Mike, arrived promptly and worked efficiently. He was very professional throughout. I especially appreciated that he patiently and fully answered the few questions I had, for example, about the exhaust fan. The repairs were all done well. Mike also brought the Energy Audit to my attention, and I will be following up on that soon. I will definitely be calling on Mr. Handyman again, and I've recommended them to friends.

I called this company after hours to leave a message but was able to speak to the owner/manager directly. I explained the list of things that I wanted done and he was able to explain the pricing and give me an estimate of what the charges would be. I got whiplash from the sticker shock!!! While I appreciated his straightforwardness and that they have a pricing structure, I felt they were way too expensive for the items I needed done, that they were too rigid with their pricing per hour, pricing per half hour and the materials markup, and that there was no personal touch. I will not use them based upon their high cost.

The staff at Mr. Handyman is prompt, accommodating, and responsive. A slight price adjustment was made in response to our requests as seniors on fixed incomes. Some project changes added to the overall cost, which we think may not have been appropriate, however once a job is in process it is difficult to say no. It would be good to settle on a policy for change orders before the job starts.

An estimate for a bedroom closet addition was performed and a price agreed upon..The job began in late April to which approximately one half to three quarter's was completed (approx. 3 days)..Because of the need to order specific closet doors, which had not yet been received, we waited longer than originally anticipated.. When the doors were finally in hand, Mr. Handyman promptly set a completion date of May 18 and the balance of the job was finished.. The tech, Mike, also adjusted some sticking exterior doors and a window crank that needed replacement, while paint on the main project was drying.. We could not have asked for a better gentleman and contractor to work with..We will absolutely use Mr. Handyman again..thanks to Skip the owner for stopping by and introducing himself and for Mike's expertise.. They are great. They are reliable. The problem I have in Connecticut is that they don’t call you back. But this company, when you call them, they give you a date when they will come, they will tell how much it is going to cost, what the fee is going to be, of course you get an estimate on the work when they get here, because there is fee for just coming as well. The job is done efficiently, expertly and timely. I would recommend them highly. They can do anything, plumbing, electric work, anything. The great thing is that they do little stuff that we can’t do but bigger companies just don’t want to come in and do it because it is not worth their while. A $200 job of changing a fan in the bathroom that is what they did the last time. It took them all of 40 minutes and it was a job well done and one which we could not do and one that I probably could not find anybody to do it. I guess they do major stuff too like renovations if we needed like re-tile the bathroom but I have not used them for that. I will continue to use him in the future. I can rely on him, that is the basic thing and I don’t think it is common any longer to rely on that kind of a service.

He did a great job and I'm very happy with the end result. While it took a bit longer than the estimated time (the assembly was fairly complex), the electrician stayed until the job was done. This ended up including patching the ceiling after having to move the ceiling fan to a beam to deal with the fact that it was much heavier than the fan replaced. He checked with me before moving the fan, accurately described the issue and allowed me to make the decision. The only comment was that the electrician arrived about 45 minutes late due to an issue in the office. It would have been good if someone had called me from the office to let me know when they realized he would be late. This was pretty minor though and I will use Mr. Handyman again for other work in my house.

The work was done very well. Their quality was fine. We had scheduling issues. The owner was very attentive. I think the guys wanted to put out a professional front. I'm always concerned about how the work comes out and they did a very good job.

When I called the owner, he said he was going to send his best man and his best man did things that I wanted done which I couldn't do. His labor even though he said it was a sale was $320 for four hours. I didn't compare the price with anybody else. The worker that he sent was good in everything because I had to do a little bit of everything in those four hours. For instance, like a lock on my old closet door. All the people didn’t know what to do and they thought I had to have a new door. He said he knew what was needed. While he was doing the other work, my daughter ran down to a store and got the lock that he said was needed. Nothing has gone wrong with the work that he did do and I was very satisfied with the work. Most people charge just for coming out to give us an estimate and things like that but he didn’t do that. He told me the next time I called him his labor price would be less. He said what he told me was the sale price and he also told me what his regular price was for four hours. His regular price was $160 for the first hour and after that he said he charged by the half hour and I think he said it was $50. To me that was kind of high. The quality of his work has been good so far. Nothing has gone wrong. I would grade the particular guy who came out an ‘A’ because he did more than one work and he told me he was sending me his best worker. He was on time. He said he would be here at 9:30 and he was here exactly at 9:30. Another thing that I liked about the guy that did the work was that he worked fast, did a neat job and cleaned behind himself. Some people work fast and sloppy but he was not. He was professional and was like Jack of all trades. I plan to use them again because there are some more things that need to be done.

They were on time for some of the initial services but then they never came back to perform the subsequent services. Their quality of the work was fine. I would not use their services again in the future. They did some of the initial work and never came back to finish it. I had to chase them down. I never got any kind of billing information from them. I just had what was put on my credit card for it. It was just a bad experience in general.

Very professional. Work in teams of two. They are willing to fill in with other odd jobs while they are there. Arrived promptly, quickly assessed a way to reconstruct the railing. The old one was overly ornate and had extensive trim that was rotted. I did not want to recreate the previous homeowner's design and I did not want to disturb the anchors in the tar roof (a previous contractor started mentioning "maybe replacing the roof" which was in perfect shape). They quickly and intelligently devised a design, estimated needed materials and, while one worker started ripping out the old wood, the other went to pick up materials. NOTE: If you have other small jobs, they will do them in the same time block and pick up those materials at the same time. In my case, the back floodlight and annoying toilet. I really liked that they could handle all these things with equal aplomp. Carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing. They each had 30 years' experience, worked well together, completed the work efficiently. It did take a second visit to complete, but that was because of the job size. The over-the-phone estimating isn't totally accurate, but I feel that's understandable. I felt the price was very fair. They clean up and haul everything away and are pleasant to an extreme--Mike always has a smile. They were also able to schedule the work start on a Saturday--which fit my schedule. After that, I trusted them and handed over a key. I will snap a picture and attach when I get a chance. I will definitely use them again.

They have professional staff and they seemed conscientious. The price they quoted was $ 707.

My house is only four years old and I don’t know what he did to my gutters. There was a point where I was so annoyed. I cannot tell you how annoyed I was. He actually tried to back into my back door to tell me something. I couldn’t believe that he didn’t come from the front door. As I have two dogs where one of them is a German shepherd and even it was like shocked. I just thought that it was quite rude to be walking into my house. I don’t even know I was so annoyed when I called them up and told them that the gutter that was leaking is still leaking and the one next to it which wasn’t leaking is also leaking, they told that they would charge me only $40 for an hour instead of $50. I was so shocked that I said them that it was not fixed and how can I pay for that. So she said that he would decide when he comes out there. Now I have to hire somebody else to fix it as it is still leaking and my money is gone. They wrote to me and asked how it was gong and I wrote back as it was terrible. I actually hired them because of what was written reviews in the website. They were on time.

The guy was on time and I liked him very much. I have gotten a bid from them for other projects that I haven’t started on yet because they do all sorts of things. Their prices came in high for some projects but I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to have them back for other things. They charge an hourly rate with a three hour minimum and they guy they send out is pretty much able to do everything. He was pleasant to have around and he did his work without standing around or eating up time. I will use him again.

Did an excellent and complete job. I knew there would be more rotted wood underneath the exterior trim and it was also replaced. Each time he encountered additional area of concern, he called me over to confirm and made very good and appropriate suggestions to complete the job. He showed up when he said he would and followed up to make sure I was satisfied with the job. He took the extra time to do it right and didn't rush. It wasn't inexpensive, but I'd rather have it done correctly as opposed to being rushed and hidden problems not being addressed.

I interacted with Skip Wyatt. I spent about $2,000 on the job. I was really disappointed with his work. I had read really good reviews about him. When I had called him for an estimate, he had given me a quote of $500. He had told me that it was a half day’s work. However, he was not able to install it in one day. He took two days. The work has not been completed yet. There is some work that he has not finished. The windows are yet to be replaced. It has been two months and the work is yet to be completed. He misplaced some materials and searched for it for three hours. I got charged for those three hours. I I have had a very bad experience with them. Also, they have not replaced the attic ventilation mess. I am done paying them. I just want them to come out and complete the work. Even though they were a little expensive, I went with them initially because the reviews were good. The guy, who came out, was getting frustrated with everything. I am five months pregnant and I had to help out in the job. The work done so far has been good, but the process of getting there was bad. The kitchen hood was halfway done and it was left that way for three weeks. I was not able to use it. The guy would be late to work, then would leave the work halfway to get something, and would not be back for 3-4 hours. He should have let me know that he was not able to find the part. I was left waiting and was charged for those hours in the end. will not be using this company again.
