Fantastic. The folks at Bartholomew Electric were friendly and professional. I called to leave a message about the service I needed and got a call back shortly thereafter. The work was done in an incredibly reasonable amount of time. They quoted me about $650 but it turned out to be less because they didn't need to install a new breaker. Then, when the inspector came out, the owner of the company got there first to talk with me, get my feedback and make sure everything was OK. I will totally be using them again.

I am very disappointed with the services that Bartholomew Electric provided. The owner was aware that the house was built in the mid-1800s and had ample opportunities to refuse the job. The owner also had ample opportunities to review his employees’ work and replace them with electricians that were more versed in historic homes. The bill for $5,592.23 in an absolutely outrageous sum for the small amount of work that was performed properly. The bulk of work had to be redone; further inconveniencing my wife and me and delaying other home projects. Furthermore, the workers did not act in a professional manner and spent much of the day that my wife observed them alternately watching a tow truck remove the moving truck from the mud, discussing their respective girlfriends and complaining about the difficulty of working on old homes. As a recap of the work performed by Bartholomew Electric, I have the following comments: 9/8/2011 – Laundry room - Installed 2 GFI outlets to replace existing 2-prong outlets. Supplied and installed 2 new fluorescent fixtures. Library – Installed 1 new outlet with wire mold tapped off of existing outlet in computer room. Cost - $1,689.07 Comment – the 2 GFI outlets in the laundry room did not work. The new outlet in the library did not work. In addition, the existing outlet which previously did work was no longer working. The wire mold was oversized and was installed on the newly wallpapered wall instead of on the baseboard as I requested. I hired an electrician to fix the outlets and will need to have the wall repapered in the future. To recap, I was charged $1,689.07 to install a fluorescent fixture and ruin a newly wallpapered room. 9/9/2011 – Family room – Installed 2 quad outlets to replace existing duplex outlets. Installed cable/ telephone jack (but did not connect to telephone service as requested). Kitchen – cut hole in tile for counter outlet. Removed dining room ceiling fixture. Cost - $1,153.67 Comment – One of the quad outlets did not work. I hired an electrician to fix the outlet and the cable/telephone jack. At the end of the day I had: no phone, no light in my dining room and a hole in my kitchen wall; what a bargain for only $1,153.67! 9/12/11 – Kitchen – installed 1 GFI outlet in kitchen. Installed owner supplied ceiling fixtures in dining room, living room and front hallway. Cost - $1,035.09 Comment – All work done satisfactorily at a cost of $258.77 per task. 9/15/2011 – Installed 2 duplex outlets in computer room with wire mold. Installed owner supplied outside floodlight. Installed wire for three-way switch in open-walled attic. Replaced 2 GFI receptacles in laundry room. Cost - $1,221.61 Comment – The wire mold was oversized and was installed on the newly wallpapered wall instead of on the baseboard as I requested. I hired an electrician to fix the outlets and had to have the room repapered. The wiring in the attic was not done correctly and had to be replaced. The installation of the 2 GFI receptacles was previously billed on 9/8/2011. To recap, I was charged $1,221.61 to install a floodlight and ruin a newly wallpapered room. 9/17/2011 – Completed wiring in attic. Mounted owner supplied motion light. Replaced existing dryer receptacle. Cost - $492.79 Comment - The wiring in the attic was not done correctly and had to be replaced. The rate for the two tasks properly completed was $246.40 each. I paid $800 to another electrician to have the shoddy work re-done and will have to pay $1000 to the wallpaper hanger to have the two newly papered rooms re-done.
