It didn't go very well upon receipt of the contractors estimate. In what was discussed between the contractor and myself, I communicated with the contractor that I would be providing what I now consider to be the bulk of the materials for this work. I asked that the contractor remove and discard wood paneling that was currently on the walls of my finished lower level raised ranch home. This also included the installation of 47" height wainscoting/shiplap type material (that I would supply) to be used for trim around 90% of the walls within this finished lower level as a replacement for the removed wood paneling/trim including top cap and bottom cap for this wainscoting/shiplap material. The contractor would also apply pine trim (again, that I would supply) for one large and one small window and one door within this lower level. In addition, I asked that the contractor refinish a bookcase built into one of the walls in this finished lower level with nicer trim and wainscoting type paneling to match the wainscoting/shiplap I was having placed on the walls. Where the original wodd paneling that existed on walls from floor to ceiling, the wainscoting/shiplap (that I would provide) be used from floor to it's 47" height and drywall be used for the remaining height to ceiling. There would also be drywall applied to replace some trim being used to box a steel post support in this lower level and along the main support beam of the house. Also, I had asked that a piece of drywall tape that had lost adherence to the drywall be removed and replaced and on a ceiling and drywall taped joints that had been improperly compounded, another wider trowel application of joint compound be applied to better conceal the drywall joints. The contractor suggested he just replace the actual drywall? Once I received the estimate, there was a price, $4,151.00 and seven bullets describing (in some cases inaccurately) what is described above as the work the contractor and I had discussed be performed. Two of the bullets were used to describe my providing the materials for this work. There was no price breakdown of additional material be used by the contractor or how many hours and at what $$/hour the contractor would need to perform the work described. When I challenged the contractor on the price estimate, he accused me of being angry and based on the tone of my email, didn't feel as though he would get the work, so that no matter what he said, he wouldn't be able to justify what he called a fair price for the work described. When I receive a price estimate for any work (on my car, riding lawnmower, chainsaw, snowblower, generator or any job that has material and labor components) I don't feel as though it would be expecting or asking too much to break down the price estimate with materials and labor, so as the paying customer, I have a better idea of what I am paying for? If this level of detail can't or won't be provided, I immediately distrust the person providing it as if there may be something to hide? In my educated and technical opinion, with me (the customer) providing the bulk of the speciality materials for this work, an experienced professional such as this contractor would've been able to complete the work within a weeks time (40 hours). So, when completing some basic math on the limited materials this contractor would've been providing, the bulk of the estimate was labor, revealing that this contractor would've been making $70-90/hour for the work performed. I personally can't justify paying someone this type of money which far exceeds the income I possess. The pictures in Angie's List and on this contractors website seem to reveal excellent workmanship, but if you're price sensitive for the work you need to perform, I wouldn't recommend this contractor for your services.
Description of Work: The provider came to my home to review the job that I wanted to complete at my home in order to prepare a written estimate for his services. He was punctual and courteous when visiting my home. He prepared and delivered the estimate when he said he would.

Response from PREMIER CONTRACTING SVC
As the customer stated I showed up on time and provided the proposal when I said I would. He was very impressed with the pictures of my work on my website. He needed help resolving a problem using different species of wood within the same room. He seemed to approve of the solutions that I offered. He responded to my emailed proposal with a very long email that basically talks about what he said in this Angies List posting. It came across as very pointed and negative. He makes the point that I didn't break out the labor and materials on my proposal. Well, he never asked me to. This is not something I typically do. I've never had a complaint about this before so it caught me a little off guard. As far as the pricing goes, I priced the job fairly, he simply disagrees...at length. Lastly, I spent the first fifteen years of my thirty five year career as a drywall contractor. I know how to resolve substandard drywall work better than most. I'm not sure what to add other than you can't please all the people all the time, although I do try. Please see the comments from the fine folks that I actually worked for and let that be your guide.

This project went great. Mind you Wayne's cost was twice another contractor that we had previously used but this was a supporting wall and Wayne made us feel more comfortable about what he was going to do than the other guy. Wayne came in and removed the plaster/drywall to determine what might be underneath (plumbing, electric) and he cleaned up everything as he went along which was very much appreciated. He place supports on both sides so that he could put the new supporting beam up, called in his plumber to move some heating pipes over, sheet rocked the wall and the ceiling where he had to remove it, painted, put in hard wood floor strips where the floor was now exposed.....and all very professionally. I can honestly say that if you didn't know that wall was 3 feet wider once up on a time - you wouldn't know. You can't tell - it's pretty much flawless! I work from home and there was very little impact to me. I did have to move upstairs for some conference calls but otherwise I couldn't be happier and can't wait for the first party to open that table up all the way!! Thank you Wayne!
Description of Work: Premier (Wayne) removed 3 feet of wall for us in between our living room and dining room. I couldn't fully open my dining room table because of the lack of space between the wall. This was a supporting wall so not as easy as just knocking down and dry walling the ends....support was needed while a new supporting beam was put in it was unknown what might be in the wall (plumbing/electric).

Wayne was very easy and flexible to work with. We did some add-on work and he was reasonable and responsive. The work quality was excellent. He showed up on time every day; left the area very clean when done for the day. We decided to change the color of the walls of the bathroom after he painted it, and he quickly repainted. He works very closely with his subcontractors and they showed up on schedule. He did some repair work on a popcorn ceiling and matched it extraordinarily well. We'd use him again in a heartbeat. His price is very reasonable but not crazy low; you pay for good work.
Description of Work: This job included modeling a bath and adjoining laundry room. The wall between the laundry and bath was moved; lineolum floors out, tile in; remove fiberglass tub;new tub/toilet; tile around tub; new exhaust fan; changing washer/dryer location; repaint. New vanity and medicine cabinet. Boxing in an A/C duct; new cabinet in laundry, new electric fixtures.

GREAT!!! From the first time we talked with Wayne he was excited as we were about the project. He was quick to get us a detailed quote(s) and started within a couple of weeks of our sign off. We did not have the project completely planned out and Wayne was very helpful planing and offering suggestions/ideas. Easy to work with is an understatement. Wayne and Craig, his partner, did exceptional work. It always amazed us how much they could get done in a day. They were very flexible with are schedule when we needed time to research options for air conditioning, heating and lighting. We also did the painting which took forever. All the subs they used work quickly, professionally and left the work area clean. I almost gave them a 4 out of 5 for cost since the project was more expense than we originally predicted. The project came in as quoted - except some add on we added. So I changed it to 5 out of 5 - it really was just sticker shock for us. In this case we did get what we paid for... a beautiful bonus room. It has been a couple of months since they completed the project. The reason I am posting this today is that I read the following in the paper today and it made me think of Wayne and Craig. " The most important thing is to get a good team of passionate, committed people who you trust. Rather than bring in problems, they should come with solutions." Hartford Courant, 2/11/2011, Section H, Page 1
Description of Work: When we built our house we had a bonus room framed in over our garage. We wanted to separate the bonus room from the upstairs bedrooms so we left room for a separate staircase in the garage. We also has a shed dormer framed. The project we had Premier work on included a stair case and railing, extended mud room, French door, air condition/heat, stacked trim, cathedral ceiling with beams, additional windows, lighting along with the framing and sheet rock.
