The installation of the fireplace insert went smoothly. We previously had a gas log in the fireplace so the gas line was already in place. They had to run pipes up the chimney to bring in air and exhaust the gases. The installation of the gas stove went well also. This requires the installation of a metal snorkel on the exterior of the house to create a draft and air intake for the stove. We were supplied with an incorrect pipe by the stove vendor, so Pro Gas had to order a shorter pipe. When they tried to install it one of the pipe joints in the snorkel got broken. They had to order a new snorkel which took a few weeks to arrive from Mississippi, since it is now an obsolete item. They installed the new pipe and the stove worked fine. They said that would not charge us for the replacement snorkel that costs $400. We offered and split the difference and gave them $200. When we ordered the fireplace (above) they gave us a $200 discount. How can you beat that? This work requires a building permit and the building inspector said that the job was done very well. The gas line for the stove ran the length of the house and had to be a special kind of pipe made for propane and electrical shielding.
