If I could give EcoSmart negative stars I would. I have worked with many contractors, architects, engineers and developers in my life good and bad. EcoSmart could be one of if not the worst company I have ever had the unfortunate privilege to work with. After signing up with them, they wasted almost 2 months of my time, misrepresenting timelines and expertise, mismanaging the process, communication and making multiple false statements along the way. I was clear from the outset that the time frame install the system was critical. They told me multiple times that permits had been filed when, in reality they never filed them at all. They did not even know the process to file permits in my town (another thing they had represented they had experience with) and did not even contact the town until the week we had initially targeted for the install. They told me they understood and had experience with Solar batteries. I had to design this part of the system myself because they had no clue what they were doing and were not even capable of effectively working with the vendor to design and solve for any issues that arose. They were terrible with communication, often telling me they would get back to me and never doing so. I had to chase them all the time. When you are spending any amount this would be unacceptable. I was spending over $100,000. 2 months into the agreement, after bailing on a site visit that I rearranged my schedule for, Michael Pelton then called me to state that they would not install what they had agreed to and that Steve Pelton (the owner) was no longer going to offer batteries as he did not trust them. But then I should just do the solar alone with them. I was clear from the beginning that the point of the project was to have a back up system not just a solar system. It seems to me that their plan from the beginning was to tell me what I wanted to hear and then pull the rug out from under me when the timing was such that I was in jeopardy of losing the full Federal Tax Credit and potentially the State incentives in hopes that I would adjust the install to solar only. Ultimately, they gave me no confidence that they were going to be able to successfully and properly install solar either. In my option and experience they are not to be trusted. My experience with them is that they are incredibly disorganized and inept, often gave me false and misleading statements and have real issues communicating at any level that would be considered acceptable. They also showed zero respect for my time or following through on what they had committed to do. All of this resulted in me losing time, money and expending a tremendous amount of effort for ultimately no reason. Simply horrendous on every level and I could not recommend a company less then EcoSmart.

Instead of repairing the leak, he did what he referred to as a "quick fix" and told me it most likely "wouldn't work". He told me to call and set up an appointment if the roof still leaked. It did. I called his business and made at least 4 appointments, all of which he didn't keep. He cancelled, had excuses as to why he couldn't come, or just plain didn't show. No phone call....nothing. I stopped waiting for him and got an appointment with a roofer who I found on Angie's list. Meanwhile, we're in the middle of 2 straight days of rain. Would I hire him again, never! Why bother?

I contacted EcoSmart Home Services (R. Pelton Builders, Inc.) directly to have the state-sponsored Home Energy Solutions audit done. Three technicians arrived at the scheduled time and proceeded to complete the various aspects of the energy audit, including inspection of existing appliances, checking if any CFL bulbs needed to be installed, installing low flow shower heads and faucet aerators, wrapping the hot water heater pipe, blower door test, and duct airflow measurement. As a result of the blower door test, air sealing was done in the attic and the basement ceiling in areas that could be easily reached. Non-fire rated spray foam appeared to be used around the chimney in the attic, which will need to be redone. The "kitchen table" wrap up did not include a review of the rebate offers. I had let the technicians know that I intended to replace the central AC and possibly the gas furnace, but only the warm air furnace rebate form was filled out. The rebate form for high efficiency central air conditioning was not filled out. Furthermore, the comprehensive energy report did not include any saving analyses or recommendations for central cooling. As a result of this, I will have to wait four months from the date of the audit to have the Energy Star w/ Home Performance program completed before I replace my central AC and furnace. I will NOT be using EcoSmart Home Services for this.

We were referred to them through Solar World's website. They came out and performed an energy audit to determine the efficiency of the house and provided us with multiple rebates to make it more efficient. We contracted with them to install solar panels. They were a turnkey operation, so we had very little that we needed to do. They were courteous, and professional. Steve worked hard to complete the job on time, and made sure that he did the right thing. I give them my highest recommendation.

Sean responded promptly to my emails. When he sent guys out to do the job of installing my new outdoor lighting, I didn't have the correct prep work done for him to complete the job. He was very understanding and even spoke to my carpenter to coordinate the work. When the carpenter was finished with his part he sent his guys back out within a day of me contacting him. Excellent service and great workmanship! I would use him again and recommend them in a heartbeat! It is rare to get this level of costomer service. Thanks Sean!

We were very pleased with our Eco-smart energy audit, performed by Ron and Jay. They were here for about 2.5 hours and did a lot of work in that time. They filled us in as they went so that we understood what they were doing, how energy efficient our house was, and what we could do to improve it. The bulbs they replaced alone were worth the cash spent having them in!
