evidently one needs to remove locks in order to re-key them? thus, 're-keying' was less than half the full bill. The rest was for services I had no idea were needed. Perhaps I should have known that? They never mentioned it in the first or second telephone conversation. Only at the house.... Meanwhile: on time, neat, cleaned up after, etc. And, all the locks work now.

Thank you for your review Mrs [Removed Member Name] I hope my response will help you understand locksmithing better. Yes we have to remove locks so that we can disassemble them in order to rekey them. The locks are then brought outside to a service van and rebuilt to a new key. All companys charge a service call. Ours is $94.00 to send out a custom built $100,000 Service van with a technician that has done nothing else but locksmithing for 35 years. Looking at your sales slip, I see you had 7 locks to rekey at $20.00 each. Then you needed strike plate repairs. We offer this when we see that either a customer is missing strike plates, or the strike plates are so out of alignment that they will cause premature lock failure or allow the locks to be pried open from the outside with a credit card or butter knife type tool. I personally feel that if your locks are not installed correctly and can be bypassed without a key, then why waste the money on just changing the key only? I could have been lazy and just rekeyed your locks and left, and you would have had a false sense of security. Before I do any extra work I always explain why and what Im going to do to help the locks be secure, make the doors open and close easy and seal in expensive heat and air conditioning. This is not mentioned on the first phone call as your locks may already be installed correctly and then it would be a wasted conversation. We only bring ip concerns if they are there. Then we show them to you and offer to fix them. I cant see your doors and locks over the phone, Most people are delighted that someone actually knows everything about the complete door opening and are willing to stay to make everything perfect. A typical strike plate adjustment or replacement runs about $6 to $10 dollars per door. If you add up your service call, your cost of lock rekeying, your cost of key copys at $2.00 each that leaves about $50.00 dollars for all the extra repairs I did to help your locks do what they are intended to do. That work will save you hundreds of dollars in the future by not having to replace prematurely worn locks that are binding or being forced into the strike hole because of mis alignment. Those locks now, most likely saved you from being broken into because I left them installed correctly. Im sure that saved you $50.00 in items that may have been stolen from your home. Or maybe it was personal safety you were looking for. Guess what? I gave that to you. You are the first customer in 35 years to go onto a site (Angies List) that Im not officially a member of and write a complaint. You did not hire me through Angies list, but yet here we both are, I suggest you search Precision Lock complaints on the internet and see how many show up. Let me save you the time. Yours is the only one in 35 years and over 10,000 completed service calls to homes and businesses. I think a thank you would have been nice, but I will just end it here and say your welcome.

I thought the rates were on the high end as far as prices, and he didn't replace the lock with anything better, but put the same version back in.

All service calls are $94.00. Mine happens to be lower than most in a 50 mile radius. Labor was $18.00 to remove a broken anderson slider lock body and replace. I cannot put any other brand of lock body in a precut slider door. Anderson Sliders can only hold Original Anderson replacemen slider locks. Pella Slider doors can only use Pella Slider Locks, Marvin Slider Doors can only use Original Marvin slider replacement locks. I cant put something better on a Brand name slider door because it just wont fit. And to be honest, most slider door locks are small and cheaply made do to the size of the actual material they can fit into. Slider glass door locks were never intended to be used as a full time main entry door.. Also if you slam your slider lock against the frame in the extended locked position you will break it. I think its pretty nice that there is a locksmith that drives around all day with Factory Original Replacement Locks in his van for EVERY slider and is willing to service them. Can you imagine if cheap knock offs were available? Im all about using Original equipment OEM parts on doors. Im sorry if I did not explain that there really is not "Something Better" to put in that factory drill lock mount, but I will tell you that there is "Something Else" you can ADD to your slider to make it more secure and that is a Charlie Bar or piece of wood across the bottom track. BTW, if there was something better it woulkd have cost more money and then you really would have been unhappy.......(I bet) ... Your welcome.
