Englander Pellet stove 2 years old, ran but wouldn't feed pellets . Called Decker. He said stove wouldn't work because it needed cleaning. He said Englander stoves don't work if they get dirty Sent out crew. Vacuumed stove which took 15 minutes, charged $150.00. Stove still wouldn't work. Got Decker on cellphone. He told me Englander stoves don't work if they are not vented correctly, meaning height of pipe, etc. I asked him for details.I pushed the stove over to a window and connected the stovepipe according to what he said was the correct way to vent. Stove still wouldn't work . I called him back and told him what I did. This caught him off guard. Started to stutter and then said it was the electronic something or other but he couldn't come out for three days but he would walk me through to test each of the connections. I asked him what he planned on charging me to revent the stove. $450.00 I asked him what he planned on charging me to diagnose the electronics. He said it would depend I called a friend of mind and he came over. He gently tapped on the augur with a wrench and the augur came unfrozen and then the stove started working I called the dealer where Decker affiliated himself on his website and told them what happened.

I wasn't totally satisfied. Before I even had a chance to light the stove, they told me to evaluate their service. Later on I saw that they hadn't really cleaned up really well. They cleaned up some of it but they could have done a better job. They left part of the liner in the back yard. They were responsive. I would probably not use them in the future; I would look around a little more.
Description of Work: I used Jeffrey L Decker Chimney Sweep And Hearth Pro to install a 7 inch diameter stainless steel chimney liner and cap into a wood stove.

We are sorry you were not happy with our service we provided. However, installation of an alternative heating appliance is more than just labor, it is Liability to the company involved. We take pride in our work and work very hard to please all our customers, unfortunately that isn't always possible, especially when they don't tell you there was a problem. I would be very happy to address your conserns "if" and "when" you contact us direct. It seems that people posting on any website such as 'Angies List' should first allow the company an opportunity to address their complaint first hand. Customers give a company a great review when they are given a completion form and then complain on a website such as this after the fact, seems to me to be extremely "unfair". If anyone ever has a problem with our service and contacts me the owner: Jeffrey L. Decker, I try very hard to address the consern and make that customer happy. Afterall we are a service industry and want repeat business. Please shop around and you'll find that we are Extremely Fair in our pricing, no matter the cost of service. We have an extremely HIGH Liability level and have to charge accordingly. The permit for any stove is the responsibility of the home owner and we provide them with ALL the neccessary insurance and license info to obtain their permit from the issuing authority. We have over 2000+ satisfied customers and yes a hand full of those we were unable to satisfy. I have a large file of satisfied customer who would be happy to reccomend our services. Just call and ask for references. Please do price comparison shopping and then call us, we do offer price matching, again we are in this for the long haul and want to be your Hearth Professional for the Long Term. Please anyone reading this remember this is only one or possibly a couple reviews, before you decide on whom you use give the company a chance to offer you references of customers who trust our company with their lives and assets. Nothing against Armstrong Chimney, they are a good Hearth Company, all I can say is price compare and see whom you decide on. Please have a great day

He did try to charge me twice for sweeping my chimney. At first he denied it, then after discussing he corrected himself. The quality of the work was good and if it weren't for the mix up with the billing I would have been happy.
Description of Work: I hired him to repair a chimney cap and installed a liner for a wood stove.

689.00 labor for one hours work with no parts involved is a scam.
Description of Work: 689.00 was spent on aprox. one hour labor to install vent for a pellet stove with no parts involved. He did not get a building permit. He is hooked up with preston traiding post. They recomend him. My mistake was not asking for an estamate. I should have gone with Armstrong chimney who has always been fair to me.
