Description of Work: Installed solar panel home system. The electrician was good. The sales rep was excellent. The installers were mediocre. The owners were hideously rude. Do not count on their warranty... the owners were very rude, condescending, snarky, and pompous. Our panel ground unit was installed 30" off level and because they did not install it level ... 2 panels fell off it. The owner told me I should have crawled way up there and tightened it myself! They were the Keystone Cops from start to finish. |Our sales rep, Walter should get a Nobel Peace Prize for working with them. |The source of the rudeness is the owners. If I had a magic wand I would get a job for Walter with a reputable company and get my money back!

Description of Work: Ross Solar Group-e-mail exchanges with them were professional and efficient. I felt that they were giving me sound advice. My only reservation was that their price estimates seemed high and that they were trying to get me to purchase more electrical production capacity than I wanted. Even when he offered an estimate for a smaller system, the cost savings from a larger one were minimal, again persuading me to opt for the larger more expensive one.

Response from Ross Solar Group LLC
Hi [member name removed], I am sorry we didn't meet your expectations on pricing. Some factors may have included the type of panels or service we were offering compared to what others may not have been offering. Just as important, we are not going to be the least expensive company. We stand behind our labor for 10 years and this is factored into every quote/estimate we provide. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Sincerely, Joshua Ross Josh@RossSolarGroup.com

Over the past several months we did a lot of research concerning adding a solar system to our home. We decided that we would move forward and that Sunpower would be our panel of choice. The decision was based on their component design, positive customer reviews, market penetration, excellent warranty, and company financial stability with Total's backing. We assumed that the Sunpower panels would likely be more expensive than panels from alternate manufacturers but we believe in the adage that you get what you pay for. Another consideration in choosing Sunpower was their claim that their dealers are the most qualified, professional solar energy installers and that they are trained to the highest standards in the industry. Sunpower further claims that they are the only solar power provider with an ISPQ-accredited technical training program, that ensures quality and consistency. The problem is that after they train their dealers some use your training to sell and install competitive systems. Although CT has over 85 licensed residential solar system contractors we only contacted four of the Sunpower authorized dealers listed on their website. We told each dealer that we had contacted them because they were recommended by Sunpower and that we wanted to buy a Sunpower system. Ross tried to sell us a non-Sunpower competitive system. Ross gave us a quote for a $63,360 11.52 kW micro inverter system with 48 Sunpower SPR 240 ACPV's They told us that Sunpower made great equipment but that they could save us a lot of money by switching to an alternate manufacturer such as LG. Ross sent us a copy of a 26 LG panel 7.5 kW $33,390 system proposal addressed to a customer in Beacon Falls, CT. The LG quote was supposed to convince us that Sunpower was very overpriced. The Ross quotes had brake out prices for panels, inverters, racks, labor, shipping and permits. Using this data we calculated on a per panel basis the costs for each of the brake out items. Within a few dollars both quotes were identical. There was no savings for the LG system vs. the Sunpower system. When we confronted Ross with their questionable price savings claim they responded "you did find an anomaly within our system that has a glitch. For this we will credit you $500 as thank you for finding this error." It is our opinion that promoting LG panels after we repeatedly told them that we wanted Sunpower and sending us a proposal addressed to a different customer was unethical. CT uses the contractor system design factor to calculate the state rebate. The higher the factor the higher the rebate. Ross said that our design factor was 95. The three alternate bidders had design factors in the 70's and low 80's. Ross's 95 factor is clearly wrong. By giving us an artificially high number the CT rebate is artificially higher than the correct value. The correct rebate amount would likely only be determined if my system were subject to a random State audit. An audit would have the potential to jeopardize our rebate and delay the entire project. We have had a $50,000 11.1 kW Sunpower 34 E20/327 panel system installed by ENCON, 1265 Woodend Road, Stratford, CT 06615. Phone 203-375-3219. We are up and running. We have been very pleased with ENCON.

I had solar panels installed on my home. The company that installed them, and then went out of business, left wires hanging down under the panels. Squirrels decided to neat under the panels, chewed the wires, and caused a fire on my roof. Westinghouse, which bought the defunct company, sent Ross Solar out to repair the panels and my roof. Ross did an excellent job, and I subsequently hired them to install a squirrel-proof fence around the solar array. When I subsequently had problems with that, they came right out and fixed the problem, and assured me that if there were any further problems, they would be back. It is nice to deal with a small company that stands by their work. If I were to install solar panels again, I would definitely use them.
Description of Work: Repair of faulty installation of solar panels (installed by another company which has since gone out of business) and installation of squirrel-proof fencing around my solar array.
