+ 0 moreWhen a company sends a salesman to your house, you can be sure that it is going to be a very high-pressure sales pitch. It costs a lot to send out a salesman and they want their commission regardless. Salesman was very aggressive. If you are a senior citizen always have someone else with you to help you decide what to do. The cost of their work is also very expensive - two or three times what a local contractor would charge. The salesman declined to let me take a few days to decide because they know, statically, if they don't walk out with a check and contract, the odds of someone signing later are virtually zero, especially if they get a second quote.

+ -1 moreNot well ! They arrived late ( one worker showed up initially ) and in the afternoon . A second worker arrived later and the job was done in the dark and in the pouring rain ! The gutters were not realigned as promised and the straps were not brown as promised and the new roof is now compromised. Several calls were made and a supervisor actually told us that he received many complaints about these installers !

+ -1 moreThey came out pretty quickly to discuss the work and set up a date....I took a personal day, and they didn't come and didn't call. When I finally spoke to them they said they had 4 different numbers and none of them were correct, and thaT they weren't coming. I saw the contract...2 numbers, both correct....I was told that maybe someone entered the number wrong, so they would come another day. I couldn't be home. The work was done, and the gutters look good, however, it was an upper gutter, and all the leaf debris that was left in the original gutter was dropped on the gutters below, which means that debris will probably go into those gutters. We also left an extension cord for them and it was all tangled when we got home. Again, the gutter looks good. It has not rained yet so we don't know if they will actually work. When you have work done, the expectation is that the workers clean up after themselves. If the gutters work well I will post another hopefully more positive review. Until then I can't say if we will use them again. The price was right though...

+ -1 moreThe punchline first, then I'll follow with a narrative to explain how my husband and I came to deal with these conmen. Punchline: The morning after we had signed a contract and given them a deposit, I decided to look up the HIC license # listed on the contract on the ct.gov site. It wasn't listed! Then I looked up the HIC license # for the salesman who had signed the contract. It wasn't listed! Next I sent a very concerned email to the ct.gov consumer protection agency. They called me back immediately and said NOT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THESE UNLICENSED PEOPLE. The contract was not valid because 1) the HIC # listed on the contract had lapsed and 2) the person signing it did not have a HIC salesperson #. I should request my deposit back. If they do not refund my deposit quickly, to call back the Consumer Protection Agency and a warrant for the arrest of the unlicensed salesperson as well as his supervisor would be issued. At this moment I'm waiting for the deposit to be returned. I did phone LeafFilter CT and told them of my interaction with ct.gov officials. They promised a quick return of my deposit - hopefully that will occur. Now the narrative (same copy is now on file with the CT Dept of Consumer Protection): My husband and I met with the LeafFilter company (HIC#0649905) for the first time Saturday, 2/24 at the Stamford Home Show. We were impressed with the demonstration of their product at the show and signed up for an estimate. Their Commercial Account Manager (title on business card), Perry Gianopoulos, was prompt and professional in keeping the appointment in our home on Wednesday 2/28. We again were impressed with the product and also with Perry, so we signed a contract that evening and gave him a check of $300 or 10% of the total quote. Thursday I remembered to check their registration on ct.gov. The HIC#0637661 on the contract is listed as lapsed. I was quite concerned. I called the phone # listed on the contract 1.800.290.6106 and was told someone would call me back. Matt Perelli (spell?) called back saying he was the Connecticut Manager for LeafFilter. He was not aware until my call that there were any problems with the HIC # and while on the phone with me went to ct.gov. There he discovered that a second HIC# had been registered which was different - HIC# 0649905. I asked Matt what the reason was for the different #. He didn't know for sure but guessed the state had made a mistake. He suggested I put the valid HIC# on the contract. I told him I was uncomfortable doing that until I found out the reason for the difference. Also, I would be emailing the state to find out the reason for the different #. Matt said he would hold our deposit/not cash the check until I found out what was going one with the HIC #. This morning Robert Nakano from ct.gov/consumer protection agency called me in regard to my email. He asked me to scan the contract to him - which I did - and to send a narrative of my experience with LeafFilter. Then Robert asked me who signed the contract. I told him Perry had signed it. Robert then checked Perry's name and found he was not licensed to sign HIC contracts. He also recommended I not do business with this company at this time. The LeafFilter contract was duplicate, with a notice of cancellation at the bottom in very fine print. I will be making a copy of our yellow form copy the contract and sending the notice of cancellation completely filled out for a refund to the address listed there in tomorrow's mail. My husband and I are so very grateful to Robert Nakano and the state of Connecticut for helping us to avoid to business with LeafFilter. Please feel free to be in touch with me at any time.

Description of Work: Installed gutter guards and some new gutter. Job was sub-contracted and they cut a few corners. They did not install brackets that were contracted for, but finally came back and made me happy. They did try to please me and finally they did. They wanted additional money to remove some facia moldings that were in their way.

Description of Work: This job could not have been simpler. Less than a month ago, I had new roofing, siding and gutters installed. So there was not a lot of repair work or alignment needed to make the installation. I was not looking to have to clean gutters in the future. I investigated several options and had bids from 3 suppliers. Leaf Filter was mid priced and did not interfere with the roof shingles. I was concerned about comments on the net about Leaf Filter being overly aggressive. I did not find this was the case. I will admit that having requested an estimate, they were persistent in getting my business. In less than a week a sales person visited and an installation scheduled. The installation was made earlier than scheduled due to availability of workers. The job was completed in approximately two hours. This installation might have been overpriced, based on time and material. I currently have no complaint. Only time will tell how this system does the job and survives the winter.

Description of Work: It is hard to rate this provider. Before going with this system we did some online research including Consumer Reports. They also came recommended by a co-worker who had success with them. They imply that their product is installed as if they have their own installers when it was a sub-contractor. The sub-contractor was top-notch - in fact if not for the sub-contractor we would have had serious doubts about our purchase. The sales rep was very friendly - he showed up early but called ahead of time. He delivered a hard sell - wanting a signed contract before he left. We do no usually do that, but we had done some homework ahead of time. He asked what we thought we might spend on this product. When we told him he said he was not prepared to give us that price. He suggested calling his regional manager and seeing if he could offer a better deal - likening the whole process to buying a car. The manager gave us a price we could live with so we agreed. They were also able to include in the job a repair of some of the fascia that was damaged. The sales rep went on and on about how our gutters were installed with straps and that was a bad idea. He said hat the installer would install them the better way - having them screwed into the side of the fascia. He showed us a portfolio of pictures of what it would like when it was finished. When we asked this sales rep how long it would take to install he stated that a team of installers would arrive between 8 - 10 and it would take about 5 hours. On the day of the installation one installer arrived promptly at 8 AM. he did review the job with me and was very polite. By early afternoon he was barely finished with one side of the back. He also had to install this system with straps. He spent some time with me explaining why the straps were needed - our fascia was angled and there is no way to screw it into the side and have it work properly. He assured us that the system would still work the way it was designed and the warranty would still be valid. I called asking for the regional manager - this was an effort as I had to go through a customer service outfit that must serve many different companies (they simply answered "Customer Service"). They gave me a local office number - when I called there was no answer and no outgoing message that I had reached Leaf-Filter. I was firm but professional on the phone as the installer confirmed that this product could not be installed the way it was described to us by the sales rep. I also placed a call to the sales rep. I had to leave messages. The Sales rep called me back first, when I described what was happening he stated he had never heard that before. He gave me the regional manager's phone number. The regional manager did call me while I was on the phone with the sales rep. I called the regional manager back and explained what as happening and asked that the warranty would still be valid. His response about the straps, was that we had straps to begin with did we not. I responded that if that is the case why were we told that straps were a bad idea by sales and why did the marketing materials not show photos of the various ways that the system could be installed. His reply was to say the Victoria's Secret would not put their product on an ugly model. I told him I was not buying lingerie, I was buying a gutter system where his sales rep went on at great lengths about why their installation system was superior. He then stated that sometimes during a job the installer will run into problems and need to modify. I expressed that that should have been explained to us by the sales rep especially since the regional manager also stated that many homes in New England require straps. At this point the RM told me that I was accusing the sales rep of lying. He also told me that I could be using more diplomacy when discussing my complaint. At this point I asked him for his supervisor's name. He told me he was the boss - when I pressed and asked if their was anyone above him he stated that it would probably be the owner of the Leaf-filter company. I told him that if needed I would contact the owner and/or file a complaint with the Attorney General. At this his attitude changed and he stated he understood where I was coming from. I stated that I would like to believe that I was not deliberately deceived by the sales rep but he needed more education on the possible ways the product might need to be installed. |The installer spent quite a bit of time (again) explaining the process to myself and my husband. The installer worked on the project until 9 PM that evening and then came back the following day by 8 AM. He didn't finish until just before 2pm. If I could have written the check to the installer instead of Leaf-filter I would have. So far the product appears to be working. The installer did everything else that the sales rep said he would - cleaning the gutters and downspouts first and cleaning up after the job. Unfortunately I still feel ambivalent about the whole experience.
