St. Nicholas did a great job cleaning my chimney and relining our other chimney. Craig was very professional and was impressed with how he handled the job. I highly recommend him.

Super nice guy. Would highly recommend. And I should note highly regarded by numerous other contractors.
Description of Work: Came out to inspect 2 chimneys. He did an amazingly complete inspection. Identified a safety issue with our furnace chimney that needed to be repaired. The main wood burning fireplace needs to be sealed due to water damage but was otherwise fine. The furnace chimney we had him come back and install a full liner. We're now all set for the winter.

Description of Work: St. Nicholas Chimney cleaned two chimneys in my new home; it's likely that the chimneys hadnot been cleaned in a number of years. The very personable owner of the company performed the service with perfect professionalism. He not only cleaned the flues, but also the whole fireplace hearth, including polishing the brass doors! There was absolutely no mess, no fuss -- just two very clean fireplaces, ready for winter.

I called Craig after we used another provider highly ranked on Angie's List, All American Chimney Sweeps, who did not do a complete job. We purchased our home about 6 months ago, and at the suggestion of the home inspector, we hired a chimney sweep to clean the chimneys and install caps. That work was done in Oct., well before fire and winter season, so we didn't notice that one of the dampers was stuck open until recently. When contacted about the damper, the previous provider did not offer any explanation or to come out and resolve the issue. I did not want to pay additional to the previous provider, so I searched Angie's List and saw St. Nicholas Chimney Service was more closely located, so reached out to Craig via email. Here's the quick story: - Craig's response was within hours - His questions and our interactions were focused and got to the issue quickly - He offered to take a look at the problem for free and provide counsel on what needed to be done - He visited today, only two days after original contact - Not only did he assess the problem, he wrestled with the jammed damper for 45 minutes, fixing it - He also looked into my question about possibly needing another cap to cover the furnace flue, but told us we didn't need it and it would be an unnecessary expense. He did all of this for no charge! Craig has now created a customer for life. One who will gladly pay for any and all services we need in the future. It's tough for providers to have to fix someone else's errors, but he did it graciously and kindly didn't charge.
Description of Work: Repaired a stuck damper that was not taken care of by the original chimney sweep that came out to clean chimneys and install caps.

From the beginning, I had been quoted a price per flue. His office staff returned my initial call very quickly and were quite professional and knowledgeable. We made an appointment and Craig Heser showed up a bit early, which I prefer over being late. After the inspections, he went to work on the wood stove flue, finished in a timely fashion, and left the area cleaner than it was when he arrived. In total, he showed up on time, did the job right the first time, and did it at a fair price, while being pleasant and personable throughout the process.. He did not pressure me in any way to do more work. I respect his honesty and experience and do not mind paying a bit more for the peace of mind one gets from a true professional.
Description of Work: Craig inspected my gas boiler flue and made some recommendations which I'll follow up on in the spring. He did not sweep that flue, as the boiler is gas powered and the exhaust doesn't leave much if any creosote. He did sweep the wood stove flue and connecting pipes which needed it badly.

I received a quote over the phone from St Nicholas Chimney Service for sweeping three chimney flues. Pricing was on a sliding scale starting at $240 with a $20 discount given for each additional flue that may need to be cleaned. Any recommended repairs would be quoted upon visual inspection of the flue. The serviceman arrived on time, was courteous and immediately went to work inspecting the flues. One chimney has gas fire logs and is used infrequently so I did not expect that it would need cleaning. Sure enough, only two out of the three chimneys were recommended for cleaning. The serviceman promptly completed the job and both chimneys were left cleaner than they were found. I would recommend St Nicholas Chimney Service to anyone requiring chimney sweeping services.
Description of Work: The work to be performed was to inspect three flues and determine if any of them were in need of cleaning. Also recomend any repairs that may be required.

the owner called me back and is very friendly. His partner is who came by to look at the chimney and explained exactly what was wrong and what I needed to have done. Also explained that I shouldn't be using the fireplace at all.
Description of Work: they provided me with a second opinion and estimate on repairing my chimney. I could afford the repairs at the time but if I choose to do them I will be calling them.

Two years ago I converted from an oil furnace to a gas furnace, and this summer both a home inspector and a chimney sweep informed me that the furnace flue had deteriorated dangerously. They both warned me not to use the furnace this heating season until I had the flue relined. The chimney sweep recommended Craig Heser, who returned my phone call promptly. He showed up on time to do the estimate, and offered to throw in a free used chimney cap for the adjoining fireplace flue to help keep my costs down. He showed up on time -- again! -- to complete the work. It was a difficult job because my house is four full stories (cellar, two main floors, plus a stand-up attic), and he had to augur out this long, long flue to enlarge the opening to receive the proper-sized flue liner. Through the window I noticed him and his helper carrying off several buckets of evil-looking detritus. In spite of this, they did a neat, professional job and left my cellar, yard and roof in a cleaner state than they found them. The masonry work in the cellar, where the furnace and water heater join the flue and where Craig removed the clean-out door, is particularly beautiful. I would use him again in a heartbeat, although I hope I won't have to!

They were very punctual. They kept our house clean during the process, as it had not been cleaned for over 14 years. He did a great did. He looked at the other gas fire places and adviced us on them on them. The Angie's List coupon was good to have.

When they finished the job and left, we noticed our wood stove window was cracked. When I called to tell them they said it couldn't have been from them however before they arrived it was not cracked. When they went to inspect the chimney, they told us things that weren't correct. Once they had the job finished, I called for them to fix something else that was broke but I could not reach them and they did not get back to us at all.

Response from St Nicholas Chimney Service
After reviewing this posting , we checked our records for that time frame and did not find anyone with the members name. The address is from Virginia , and we are located in Connecticut. I will say , that if we did indeed do damage to someones property we would step up to the plate and take care of any situation immeadiatly ! As far as informing a home owner that potential problems may exist... it is our duty as professionals in this field to do so , we do not mislead , we do our best to educate the consumer , and at times what happens is , the consumer has already had two other opinions , so some people like to "shoot the messanger" , and become upset with any information that they do not want to hear. we are very aware , that this could happen, and work to prevent it from occuring , we treat our customers as we would like to be treated so we readily use National code structures ( N.F.P.A) for explaining and backing up any needed repairs. I really believe that this report by the Gamble is un founded and inaccurate , and they may have us confused with another company ,
