Gary was creative and used vintage bricks, so the new walk looks as if it has always been there. The project started and finished on time. The cost was very competitive. Nice touch: they re-seeded several bald areas in our lawn adjacent to the project.

The initial job went fine; my issue is with follow up. I called a year later to ask for some mulch and also had a few plants that needed some help post replanting. was told that someone would come and an estimate and I would hear from them. I never did; called and left voicemail but gave up. Frankly, I had problems getting them to pay attention on the first job, so it wasn't a total surprise. But it's simply not professional to say you are going to give a quote to a previous client and then just ignore them.

I went to the office and left contact information and details about the job. No one called back. They were working on a friend's property nearby, and the friend convinced someone to stop by and discuss the problem of why there was an expanding sinkhole where they had filled in a pool. I never heard from them again. I called - no one returned my call. I emailed photos of the hole to my contact there, who still did not call or email me back. They did a bad job of filling in a pool. Their customer service is the absolute pits. I have nothing good to say about Grove Gardens.

Spoke with Gary one week ago and asked for a simple quote -- was told that and quot;sure, in a day or twoand quot;. Well almost a week later and there has been absolutely no communication from him/business at all. I even sent email to inquire as to status and they can't even be bothered to respond to that. It would have been fine if at least they said and quot;we're really busy, it may take awhile....or our route is full, not taking on new customers, etcand quot; -- but I didn't even receive that courtesy. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I'm glad that I've since found a professional and reliable service.

The workman arrived as scheduled and ripped the old walk and rebuilt it. They worked diligently and finished on time as promised

Other than a slight hiccup on scheduling (hence the B on punctuality/responsiveness), the work was very well done. the crew worked very hard even in extremely hot and humid weather conditions and everything looked (and still looks) great. I would definitely use them again; I would just be more proactive on confirming the scheduled work date. In terms of price, it's hard to compare as they charged me based on hours and materials, given the nature of my job. I would definitely use them again, especially for planting. Gary and his team are VERY knowledgeable about trees and plants. I'm pretty good at it, but I learned a lot just by talking to them.

We have a steeply graded, wooded hill (45% slope over about 35 ft). We wanted to clean up the hillside so we could put a small shed at the top. We also wanted to place a terrace 1/2 up to accommodate a wood pile. We had the trees felled, trimmed, and sectioned by a friend. We then shopped around for someone to do the landscaping. Every contractor we queried wanted to install cement-based stone walls both above and below the proposed terraced portion. Unfortunately, this approach would drive the cost of the job too high for us to pursue. Confronted with this constraint, Rick from Grove Gardens proposed building the retaining walls from large boulders he had on hand. Not only was the proposal a novel idea, it was also cost effective. He came in and cleared out all the down wood, stumps, and brush. He then sculpted the hill to join the slope with our yard and to create the terraces. He brought in boulders and embedded them into the hillside: 2-3 ft dia rock on the lower section, and 1-2 ft dia rock on the upper section. He then graded and surfaced the terrace and shed pad with 1and quot; stone. Finally, he cleaned up the yard, brought in topsoil and reseeded everything. I was initially concerned that the 'break' in the slope of the hill at the woodpile terrace would be an issue for my lawn tractor (crashing the blade) by not so! Now that the grass is growing and the work has settled in, we pretty happy with result and I appreciate the unique character of our hill! I gave Grove Gardens a slightly lower score on Responsiveness since I had to withhold my final payment to get him to come out for corrections. I was also disappointed that he was not interested in doing a final walk-through with me on the job. Once he felt done, it was impossible for me to get any of his time. I recommend specifying a final walk-through up front, and specifying that the walk-through be performed before making final payment. In spite of the above complaint, I would definitely consider using Grove Gardens for my next project.

I like that they are a small-family owned company and we've used them for about 3 years now. They are also very good about explaining what plants work well and are deer-resistant and thrive in this area. This year, we wanted to try another type of mulch, but my husband didn't remember what we had before, but they were able to check their records and make a recommendation based on that as well.

The staff located the difficult to find product with one of their suppliers and stocked it when promised.

From their visit appointment, they were wonderful. They had ideas and plans, and their crew was great through the whole process.
