The whole thing went well. I lost count of the number of guys working on the roof. They were very efficient. David was friendly and courteous and he was very responsive to e-mails. The portable mobile dumpster and ladders were dropped off the day before work was to be done. It's really neat how the dumpster is drive able. They literally drove it around the house to where it was needed and threw the debris directly in rather than having to lug the debris to a stationary dumpster. The shingles arrived about an hour before the crew showed up to work. The crew was quick. The roof was 90% complete on day 1 and they placed a tarp over the unfinished section and got it done the next day. They saw that the flashing on my dormers wasn't step flashing so they tore off the shakes on the sides of the dormers, put in step flashing and put on new shakes. David offered to paint the shakes if I got him a can of paint and I took him up on the offer. All of this was at no extra charge.
Description of Work: Removed existing asphalt shingles. Installed 1/2" plywood over wood boards. Installed ice and water shield where needed and synthetic roofing underlayment to rest of roof. Installed 2000 sq. ft. of Timberline HD Lifetime architectural shingles. Installed new plumbing stack cover. Cut opening for, flashed, and waterproofed around new skylight.

Everything went great. During the estimate process, it was clear that the owner had a passion for roofing and tons of experience. He was the only estimate I got who actually went on the roof to see what the state of affairs was and discuss what he saw. I had a leak at the time and he was able to easily diagnose the issue as an improper repair done in the past. I decided to get a whole roof replacement because my older house did not have the moisture barrier under the roof that homes have now. I was having some issues with ice dams, so I wanted to go with metal. This was by far the best estimate I got for the job. The roofing team came each day for 5 days. Each day they completely cleaned up what they were doing and I felt like everyone wanted to get the job done right and quickly. The owner came on site multiple times to make sure everything was to his specifications. By the end, everything was absolutely stunning. :) Any questions or minor issues I had were promptly dealt with immediately. I consider myself pretty high maintenance, but this contractor was really patient and understanding. I would recommend Royal Roofing to anyone who wants a good product at a reasonable price, and to support a small local business.
Description of Work: Got my whole roof stripped and replaced with beautiful maintenance free standing seam metal. This included replacement of all 6 of my skylights.

All of their promises were kept and then some. They went beyond the terms of the contract: clean up was excellent, price was reasonable, and I would recommend them to all.

The job was started on schedule, diligently pursued, finished within the time estimated, and appears to have been done competently. I am entirely satisfied.
Description of Work: Royal removed the existing two-layer roof (asphalt over wood shake), sheathed in plywood, replaced all edging, installed double wide courses of storm and ice layers, and shingled with highly rated asphalt product. Repointed the huge chimney, replaced the copper flashing (which had not originally been installed correctly), grooving the native traprock cladding so the flashing would not separate from the chimney. Replaced two of the six skylights that were showing breaches of seals. Appropriately recommended the replacement of many of the siding boards on the weather side of the house. Replaced a rotted louvered gable. The work was undertaken in logical and discrete stages that left the premises well protected from rain each night (rain was in the forecast the entire time work was underway but mercifully held off until the job was finished). Royal showed up in force with a team of 6 to 10 men on each of four days. A carpenter appeared on the fifth day to fit molding on the inside of the skylights that shifted a bit during the re-sheathing. It was obvious that the men had worked together a lot. The coordination was a spectacle to behold. The mess during the work was gone each evening. No shrubs were worse for wear. The dumpster was removed promptly. The owner/boss on his first arrival last fall to appraise the job spotted issues I had long wondered about (chimney, gable) as well as some I had not anticipated (skylights), and he came up with good solutions. He offered options, submitted a clear and accurate proposal based on our discussions, coordinated well on scheduling the work, and appeared to have the favorable respect of and for all his crew. The mid-job addition of the siding work was appropriately recommended and priced consistently with other elements of his original proposal.

The work is not supposed to start until later this year. Right now I just wish Angie's List would stop pestering me to file a report.
Description of Work: I just contracted with Royal Construction to reroof later this year and expect they will do a great job. I am filing this report simply to get Angie's List to stop bugging me every few days to file a report.
