They charged me for $6000. I did not shop around and it seemed high to me. But the basement is dry, so I can't complain. They were very efficient. They have three workmen and they came in the morning on-time.They worked here for about 10 hours and they completely finished the job in a prompt manner. They only took one short lunch break. They picked up everything, they cleaned up the basement, and they did a very good job.

It was an upsell/hard sell. He did not address my problem at all. He came in smelling like smoke, I could hardly deal with being in the same room with him. The company was responsive and apologetic, but the gentleman who came out was not professional at all.

Although I was extremely pleased with the end result, I was disappointed in the process and professionalism of the company. I ultimately spoke to 3 companies, this was the first. It was a bit of a hard sell, although I liked the salesman. But after my other conversations realized that there are small but important differences in the systems that are installed. The original quote was quite a bit over the other written quote I received, and more than I ultimately paid. In the back of my mind I wondered if I was being ripped off because I live in New Canaan or because I was a woman. In any case DO YOUR HOMEWORK! They ultimately matched the other lower quote and performed the work. My hope was that they would be neater and the mold spray was of a better quality than the competitors, both important because I have allergies. Both of these items were true. They were EXTREMELY neat, not an easy trick with cement and a jackhammer (theirs have vacuums attached!) and the workers were polite and the foreman knowledgeable. The other issue I had was that they called my husband to confirm the appointment and did not reach him. Rather than call the other numbers on the contract (my cell) they tentatively cancelled the installation, quite a huge problem since the contents of my basement was in my back yard! I called the morning of the installation and was told they were on an another job and they had called my cell, neither of which turned out to be true. So they started late the first day, but still finished in the late afternoon on the second day. I was also please that their sump pump is American made.
Description of Work: Basement waterproofing; digging a trench around the edge of the basement with jackhammers. Putting in gravel and a drain beneath the surface of the floor angling the drains to collect in a corner. A sump pump was placed in the corner in a barrel as well as a back-up battery installed. The floor was recemented over the gravel and drain. They also placed a drain outside the door to collect rain water and direct it into the installed system. The sump pump was connected to an existing drainage pipe which they extended underground outside of the house to a gully that existed on the side of our property. They then sprayed for mold.

See above. The job was supposed to take two days, but the workers continued working into the evening, which meant digging up the pump pipes in the dark. In general, I felt staying late caused the workers to work too fast and thus not as well. For example, the supercrete was only applied to some of the area, and not all the cracks were taken care of. While the work was generally good, there were two problems. The window used to bring in materials to the basement was broken and the wooden sink they needed to move under broke when they tried to remove it. However, the company paid in full what it cost to replace both the window and the sink, including all labor costs. Another slight disappointment was that no one from the company came by or called to check on how things were going. The workers seemed to know what to do but I felt there was no oversight on such an expensive job.
Description of Work: As agreed after an initial consultation, the company installed a drain system around the perimeter of my basement to keep water from staying below the floor and get it instead flowing to a pump that took water to the outside. They used a jackhammer to tear up the floor with a system that did not create a mess and installed the system over the course of a long day. They also applied a water proofing substance called supercrete to cover some of the cracks in the floor caused by water pushing up. When done, the company sprayed a fog to eliminate the mold and mildew that had accumulated over the years. It worked well.

Very nice man. Immediately told me the problem. Although I wasn't totally convinced and needed another opinion. Red flags went up with the hard sell. $4K if i purchased within 48 hours, $5k, after 2 weeks and then $6K after a month. Also was told no negatives from Better Business Bureau. But I checked and found 2 negatives. Sorry I though Rich was very personable but the bottom line was fixing the problem at the best price and feeling confident that I had checked alternatives.

I don't think I have ever seen a harder working crew of men. I don't think they even broke for lunch. There was very little chatter, they just worked. They cleaned the cellar up after they finished. My cellar is now dry as a bone and the cleanest it has been since the day it was built (1933). I am very satisfied with the job that was done. I would use them again if I had the same kind of problem. I am sure that they have added value to my home. My basement now can be used. It is dry and clean.
Description of Work: My basement was inspected and found to be in bad shape due to an existing water problem. A day was selected and American Dry Basement arrived on time; ready to go. They cleared the walls of the basement and dug a trench all around the walls of the basement, put down crushed stone and then a pipe was laid into the trench. This was the same type of pipe used in French drains. Concrete was then used to cover the trench. There was a lot of "junk" in the cellar, so I made arrangements with the workmen to clear out and cart away what I did not need. The entire job took about one-and-a-half days. They also moved two sump pumps to a better location, covered them and led the pipes out to the storm drain. They also laid the same type of pipe on the low-lying side of the house and brought the pipe out to the storm drain. The same was done with the run off from the gutters.

They came over and he wanted to sell me a whole new basement system for $12,000. He wasn’t willing to do the $500 worth of repairs, as stated in the deal. I don’t think it needs a whole new system, so I decided not to use them.

In August 2012 I purchased an Angie's Big Deal for a free estimate and $250 for $500 worth of service. When I called American Dry Basement to set-up an appointment, I immediately recognized the high-pressure sales tactics employed by the company. As a matter of principle (and aggravation) I do not do business with these types of companies. I contacted Angie's List customer service and explained my situation - the person that helped me was very pleasant and asked no questions. My $250 was promptly refunded (GREAT customer service Angie's List!) When I called American Dry Basement to cancel the appointment, they unsuccessfully kept-up with the high-pressure tactics and tried very hard to reschedule. It has been more than three months since the cancellation and every 3 - 4 weeks I receive a call from American Dry Basement which I do not answer. They do not leave a message.

The day after we purchased the coupon, we coincidentally had flooding in our basement. It turned out a pipe coming into our house from the street had been leaking for a very long time and it finally starting coming up through the floor. The gentleman from American Dry Basement was already scheduled for a visit so he came by and said that pipe had likely been leaking for a very long time and was the main source of our moisture problem. He also gave us a few simple tips. Once we had taken care of everything, things have been fine, so we have yet to use our coupon. But we'll see how winter goes!

Salesman came out on-time and was very polite. The problem was, he spent 5 minutes in the basement and immediately jumped to conclusions about the root cause of the leak and proceeded to write up an estimate for a full blown french drain installation underneath the perimeter of our entire basement. He tried to get us to sign a contract on the spot, but didn't push too hard when he realized we weren't suckers. He refused to even entertain the idea that the source of water came from a water main entry in the wall right above the puddle. When I asked him if that could be the source of the problem, he said that it didn't matter and that the French drain would fix any and all leak problems we could ever have. I ultimately traced the water leak to poor grading at the side of the house and a rusted pipe that brings in the water main. The French drain would have been a complete waste of money, not to mention the risks of drilling around the entire perimeter of the basement floor. I understand that these guys make their living off a specific solution, but pushing that solution on people who don't need it is not ethical behavior. If you are not in the business of helping people solve their problems, then don't advertise it as such.

Arrived on time and worked with only one short lunch break. They had to dig up the perimeter of the cellar floor and I would say there was minimal noise...I was home the whole time. They cleaned everything up when finished. They were very courteous workers.
Description of Work: I am not sure how competitive this price was...it seemed high, but they did a very good job. We have not had any prolonged heavy downpours in the one month sinc e the job, but it appears to be fine. The three men arrived on time and completed the job in one day. It was a lot of work! So far, so good.

Ron came and evaluated the basement and we arrived at a fair estimate to fix the problem. A few days later, two workers arrived as scheduled and began digging up our basement. Inadvertently, they dug an an area that was not supposed to be touched along with what was planned. They repaired the unscheduled section and American Dry Basement gave us a letter saying they would correct any problem caused by them in that area free of charge. Everything else on the job was done very well. The workers were very neat and friendly.

The experience was good. They were very professional and they were very good at calling back and checking with us on some of the things they would be doing. Their price seemed a little bit on the high side. We got 3 different estimate and we are trying to decide which company to go with. We asked them to break down the estimate so we could just pick and choose. They said if we did it that way, the warranty would not cover it. Other companies would cover it. It wasn't a negative experience. We are not sure if we would use them; it depends on who offers the best price.

Very hard working staff of 2. Original plan was to do crawl space as well but I didn't to save money at least now. The staff, however, looked skeptical because of the height of the jack hammer (reason the work bench was the problem.) They were timely, worked extremely hard and got the job done in less time than anticipated. They were reasonably clean.
Description of Work: Removed concrete from perimeter of the basement. Put down perforated pipe. Sump pump with battery and back up battery. Could not do under steps so ramped the area so water would drain into the pipe. Problem with workbench but ultimately they removed AND replaced ( apparently not normally done but i was going to cancel the job). Drains into the yard. Blasted the area with mold deterent.

In our opinion, the representative was very high-pressure. I explained up front that at this point, we had had several basement waterproofing companies over, so we already understood where the water was coming from, why water comes in through the walls, how much pressure is under the floor, etc... and that it would be nice if he could skip the "where water comes from" lecture, which he didn't. He also stated that it would be impossible to do a gravity-fed system, though he refused to measure it out. He said he could just tell. When I said that another company came out and measured it out with a laser level, taking into consideration the depth of the basement floor and required pitch, he said that the other guy's equipment must be faulty, but insisted on staying to give us an estimate for the interior digging just in case we wanted to take care of the drainage system ourselves. The drainage system proposed itself seemed of high quality. The material was sturdy, with many great references and installation pictures showing it in place. We would have been happy to have the ADBS system installed if it weren't for the lack of gravity-fed discharge line and the attitude of the representative. After calculating a price, the representative started telling us that he could give us a cheaper price if we booked in the next 30 days because of a commercial condo job in the area that had a few days of downtime. Having read numerous reviews here and elsewhere where customers stated hearing the exact same thing, I resisted and just asked for the best price so we could consider it along with the rest. He became pushy at that point and kept trying to get us to commit to a date, which I would not budge on. Finally, after being asked one last time, I pointed out that the "commercial crew in the area" thing is something I had been warned about, and I didn't like price games. The representative packed up his materials, said some things about how I shouldn't trust the internet and stormed out of the house.
Description of Work: We had a representative from ADBS come out to give us an estimate for a basement waterproofing job. We wanted an interior perimeter collection system with gravity-fed discharge out through the back yard. The representative showed up, took measurements, explained the work, and gave us estimates on different levels of service we might be interested in.

I used this company to waterproof my basement and to have an air system installed. It has been two years and we have had a completely dry basement (and we have had a TON or rain during this time). I recently called the company to service the air system and they came, walked me through how to maximize its productivity and gave me a bunch of tips on how to create better air flow, etc. They did not charge me for the visit and they were extremely helpful with everything. I would highly reccomend them as they did a great job (again , no water) and we extremely helpful with the service call.

He was very thorough in his explanation. He showed us a brochure. He showed us exactly what was going to be happening. He explained the whole procedure. He was probably the most thorough that we had. He came a whole day ahead of schedule. I would probably use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I got a quote from American Basement Systems. They came out on February 17th to give me the quote. They gave me an initial quote of $7093.80. He said that if we signed up in two weeks time, he would drop it down to $5068. He had a lot of things that he was going to do. He was going to put the pipe punch drain all down one wall. Then he was also going to put a crack seal in the cracked wall, put a sub pump with a discharge so that it will be a new pump, and do something for the mold like a mold treatment. There were lots of other things too but I can’t remember now.

We have had no problem with the work that they have done but we have no proof that it is working because we have not had any spring flood yet. What they were going to do they did. There were some added cost that I had not anticipated that was not they, but we had to get the heating company in and take off the baseboard radiators and put them back on when they were done. I put the new ones back in. that was a mess. That was an added $1000 that I was not anticipating which was probably not their fault. It would have been nice had we known. It was not in the budget. It was not that they were profiting from it. There was a whole lot of stuff done at the same time. The contractor from this company who was overseeing what they were doing did some other work for us at the same time. We had two large rooms done for the estimate given by them. My basement has actually three separate rooms. I have an old house. The original house was built in the mid 50s. and then we put in the additional ones in the early 90s. So they did not do the addition they finished the basement room and the unfinished basement room in the original house. They took off the old pine paneling and pull down the ceiling because we were worried about the mold in the finished room and that was not included in the price. They added the pump and drains and the battery pack up and they did some bio fogging through mold remediation. They did a whole bunch of stuff. We were thinking of selling our house. Though it is not the best time to be selling, but we are at a point when all our children have gone and we have a huge house with only the two of us living in it. I was extremely pleased with their work. They were prompt, they were courteous and they cleaned up after themselves and I had no problem with what they did. The overseer then came back and basically put the room together for us for a separate bill. He came in at a price we liked. He and another friend came back and spend three weeks putting three rooms together for us; dry walling and everything. I was so pleased with the company that I was willing to have him back to do more as an independent contractor. As regards pricing we did something we should not have done and we took the first company that showed up. It seemed like a reasonable price. We liked them and it not seem like a whole lot of money to us. As for quality there has been no water in the basement yet and there has been no spring flood to check it out. hope that I don?t have to do it again but I have no problem recommending him to others.
