Emergency Services Offered
Services we offer
We can accommodate a wide variety of home improvement needs, from designing and building custom kitchens and bathrooms, new additions, or specialty items like sunrooms or built-in cabinets - to very simple repairs like screens and doors, replacing hardware or replacing rotted trim. The goal is to be the one place you need to turn, whatever your home repair or improvement need.
Services we don't offer
We usually subcontract large roofing or siding jobs, fences, and other large-scale, low-end work that specialty contractors can handle more cost effectively. If you should have need of one of these services, we can function as your general contractor, or recommend resources that may fit your needs. The goal is to be of service.
We had an old deck that needed to be replaced. When the old deck came down we had to do some grading of the soil. Jim worked with us to schedule himself and the tractor work to make this happen. The new deck exceeds our expectations. Jim has great attention to detail and made sure that every part of the deck looked correct and pleasing to the eye. We added string lights and outdoor lights to the project and he was happy to add that as well. It is very hard to find people who are excited about your project and take ownership of it. We found that in Jim and his team! We are SUPER happy and would reccommend Jim to anyone.
Description of Work: Jim built us a new deck with an attached garden shed

Description of Work: Patched drywall on the ceiling of the bedroom and installed a fireplace mantel. The work was neat and professional quality. Jim communicated any issues he found and consulted with me on how to move forward. Priced a little on the high side but solid quality work.

PERFECT! PERFECT! AND MORE PERFECT! We found this place called Trust Builders, LLC, on Angie's List (Of Course), and James (people call him Jim) had answered the phone. I called him up on the phone letting him know what the situation was, and how bad it was. Jim did a perfect job with everything that he did here. First of all, this is a very hard working man. I have never seen anyone take out LARGE portions of walls apart, so meticulously, so perfectly neat and with precision skill. The wall sections that were damaged were removed and discarded. Jim gets right down there in the wall, and takes out ALL of the dangerous BLACK MOLD by removing that harmful horror that we lived with for so many years. He was working so vigorously and managed to vacuum out everything that was such a difficult and tedious job. Jim worked for many hours on his first day at the house, RE-building the beams that rotted out on the first wall that needed work. Everything to perfection. The next and last visit to work here, was just as industrious and he just works his heart out. This guy worked so hard, we felt that he was really true to his word. He gave us a written estimate of EXACTLY what work needed to be done, and to the mark, we paid that exact price. In fact, the verbal price we were quoted at the beginning was higher than what we actually paid, due to the fact that the second wall was not as rotted as the first, and required less work. Jim told us that himself, he didn't mince words or take extra because it didn't require as much work as the first wall. Very Honest, Jim let us know right away, there would be a REDUCTION in our estimate. ************************************************************************************************************************************* I'll tell you something, this guy puts hard work, sweat and strength into his work. Jim KNOWS this business. He acts like a PROFESSIONAL throughout, he was prompt, and got started almost immediately. He even ran out to get the materials after he was here, showed us receipts for all he purchased, and even left us the extra materials! I would ABSOLUTELY hire Jim again on the spot. All I can say is, a job like this takes a lot of precision. If a contractor doesn't do the work correctly, harsh chemical black rot irritants could become airborne. He was very careful and we got kicked out of the room to the upstairs (nicely) for our safety. He cleaned every bit of the areas that were worked on, that the area didn't even seem like anyone worked there. Only that it looked so much better. Great Job. If you know anything about carpentry, if it isn't done right, it becomes a real big problem. The price that we received for all of this work was unbelievably reasonable. VERY REASONABLE FOR ALL OF THE WORK THAT WAS REQUIRED OF THIS JOB. Friendly, Professional, Business - Like, and knows the business. Is there ANY reason to use anyone else? I recommend Jim for this type of work. You wouldn't believe all of the other beautiful woodwork he does. I've seen it in pictures. Everything as promised here both in work detail and in price. WHAT ELSE CAN I SAY? AT THE END OF THE DAY, WE WERE EXTREMELY PLEASED. Hire again? ANYTIME! YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT : ) **************************************************************************************************************************** AND I HOPE THAT WE ARE ALLOWED TO SAY, WE LOVE EVERYTHING THAT HE DID FOR US AND LOVE HIS WORK! ********************************************************************************************************************************* THIS IS THE WAY WORK AND SERVICE SHOULD BE! GOOD SERVICE IS RARE THESE DAYS. WE ARE HAPPY CUSTOMERS!
Description of Work: ********************************************************************************************************************************* ********************************************************************************************************************************* This guy James Riggs is the Carpenter & Construction business and is really FANTASTIC!! IF and when I have large jobs to do, I WILL ONLY CALL HIM. HE SAVED OUR WALLS FROM ANY FURTHER DAMAGE, AND CAME OVER TO ASSESS THE SITUATION. This is the builders part of the story, to explain what happened. When we first purchased our home, it was built for us so we had brand new casement windows. The windows were purchased by the builder and were definitely contractors grade. From the beginning, the windows were drafty, were never flashed properly. Half the windows didn't open and were jammed shut. Very dangerous, and if there was an emergency, it would be difficult to escape. The alarm system also shorted out, from the water damage. The water would leak through the frame, between the walls, and down into the basement. This all caused black mold and rot in between the walls. The painted surfaces were also damaged. The walls were constantly wet, whenever it rained. I stayed up many nights for years monitoring the situation, placing towels below on the hardwood floor which buckled, and warped. Garbage bags were placed on the windows to try to deflect the water seeping in, and the blinds were ruined. when we purchased carpet, it was all but starting to get a moldy, musty smell. The two over sized front windows of the house were destroyed. At this point, we had to look for a carpenter that would fix all of the black mold / rot that happened to the walls underneath the windows.
Jim and his team were knowledgable, professional and very thorough in their work. We are very pleased with the results. Jim is creative and finds a way to get things done when faced with challenges. We had a 2nd story window which was difficult to reach due to landscape and Jim handled it smoothly and with no problem. His team was conscientious and took their time to make sure each opening was done properly to insure a weatherproof installation. We highly recommend Trust Builders LLC and are making arrangements to use them again on a basement remodel.
Description of Work: Installed windows, resizing the opening to accommodate the new windows and blending the cedar shake siding to the new openings. Replaced and installed a french door which had failed.

He is very professional and has great communication skills. He responded to text and email, provided updates and was very punctual. The work was well done and looks nice. My only complaint is that he quoted me for the entire job and I paid that amount. I happened to have a painter working in the house at the same time, on other projects. The two of them apparently agreed that the painter would do the sanding, frame priming and painting and touch up. This wound up costing me an additional $250 from the painter. I would hire him again, but I would be more specific about the completion of the work.
Description of Work: He removed a door and widened the entrance between 2 rooms, creating an open flow between the kitchen and the dining room. This required removing the door, removing some of the plaster wall, reframing the entrance and matching the wood flooring.

My husband and I received a used play scape and needed help putting it together. We contacted Jim and although he shared that this would be his first play scape project, his background in Deck Design and General Construction would be applicable. He was very flexible with his schedule and it aligned with ours. The result was perfect!! The play scape needed some sections rebuilt and he made it happen. Jim is meticulous and precise with his craft and it shows in his work. I feel very comfortable that it was built with quality.

Jim first built the supports for the porch roof, he then removed the support pillars, the railing, the floor boards. On inspection, the Beams and Joists were not to spec, he came and discussed replacing the beams and joists, and gave an estimate for the replacement. On agreement, the lumber was ordered and provided. The foundations were inspected after the removal of the framework, we had epected the beams and joists to be replaced, but not the foundations which were the original from around 100 years ago. New foundations were placed with modern materials. The work took just over two weeks and it was hot ... we only had to deal with Jim the owner, he provided a detail estimate at the start of the job, and detailed estimates for the add ons, all of which were detailed and within the budget. The original estimate was $13,000, at the end with changes the final cost was just under $17,000 and worth every penny. I will say we did not have to do anything, Jim worked with the city for permits, we just provided checks as needed. Kim has followed up on his work letting us know when we need to oil the porch deck and wax the ends. I would hire Jim for almost any job.
Description of Work: Our front porch was falling down, Jim rebuilt the porch, we spend more time there now than in the back garden.

Jim was great. Throughout the whole process he guided me and helped me figure out the best solution. I knew I had to replace the front porch/small deck entry way but I didn't quite know how it should look and what would be best. He had some ideas that really made the project much better than what was there. Specifically, the design features were really great: overall shape, type of wood, angle of boards, style of rails: he had 'the vision.' Jim did what was best for my house and I should add, even better than what I could express going into the project. He has that designer's sense of what would work and what would help the overall statement. I was really pleased with the way it came out!
1. book case project. I know Jim. He created my front porch and I trusted his sense of design and artistic vision. When It was time to redo my big ugly book case to something more artistic and fun, I knew I had to get Jim. I didn't quite know what I wanted but I new that the big, monolithic, ponderous bookcases needed to be replaced by something more cool, funky, light and something more in keeping with my mid-century modern home, something that could define the 'great room' and be a centerpiece/statement. So I had Jim over and explained what I was l thinking. He came back with a drawing that was really wonderful and fanciful and seemed to be just the right thing. I mean this thing is flying from the wall (attached in some weird internal way...cleats? i don't know..but it floats off the wall and doesn't touch the ground!...cool) There are curved bits on a few different angles; it must have been really hard to make those kinds of cuts. This is the most artistic statement one can make in a bookcase and truly it must be seen to be believed. It's not weird. It completely fits my vision and is in keeping with my idea of something fanciful yet tasteful. I knew I made the right choice when after it was built anyone that would come over would always comment on how cool my book case was. It really makes the room! 2. Jim also made me wood doors out of cedar to match my house. I had him make 8 doors. I wanted to do something custom that would be special and not just get the typical flimsy screen door. These doors are more substantial and they have replaceable screen door or glass panes. They are the right look for my house and very functional with my cat so I can have glass on the bottom that is impervious to scratching yet have a breeze coming through at the top of the door. Made out or cedar they blend in well with the house.
Description of Work: 1. created book case. 2. created wood screen doors
The boards on the porch of our house were rotting and needed to be replaced, during the quoting process we decided on the materials to use we wanted Ipe boards (Expensive at $6.25 per linear foot ... but we felt well worth the price) Trust Builders LLC gave us the best quote of all received ranging between $13,000 to $22,000. They came to our house after getting all of the necessary permits and arranging a trash skip. Jim the foreman and master carpenter modeled supports for the roof that was sagging, removed the columns and boarding. The framing and footings under the porch were then inspected and found to be unsuitable for use. Further funding was required for the new footings and framing, these were added to the original quote of $13,000 and came to around $2000 (cost price for materials). The porch was completed to spec and within budget within two weeks. We are thrilled with the new porch and are probably going to hire Trust Builders LLC to build out our attic space.
Description of Work: Front Porch (Replaced the footings, framing, porch boards, railing and columns)
