Standard Oil Of Connecticut

The price we locked in on the Oil was a very good one and the service has been excellent. The furnace in our recently purchased home had been neglected a bit, but Standard Oil got it to operate pretty well with the original service. Since November, a thermostat failed and Standard Oil replaced it. They got the furnace up and running the same day we called and there was no cost to us because the repair was covered by the service contract. Recently the Fan in the furnace failed and, once again, Standard Oil got the furnace up and running the same day we called. Joe came out to do the repair and did an excellent job. We had to pay for the fan since it was not covered by contract, but the furnace is operating better than ever and we felt Joe did a great job for us.

We wanted provider to come give us an estimate on putting in new vents and returns on our heating/cooling system. They asked if we were monthly oil customers and we said we were not but might consider changing. They informed us that since we weren't customers, they would not show up unless we gave them a $1000 deposit!! I've never heard of such a thing! How insane! Their website says they do that sort of work and they came up on Angies list when we searched for that service. Well now they lost out on a job and a potential new oil customer. And they were rude on the phone too!

I've just moved into this house, and so shopping for heating oil was new to me. But somehow my inspection team involved Standard, and I had read about them here on Angie's List. So I decided to give them a try. I locked into the price, which apparently has saved me some money this year. They show up an fill my tank from time to time during the winter. At first when they are here, they would leave a receipt on the outside of my mailbox. During one snow/sleet storm, that receipt was frozen to the outside of my mailbox, and shredded when I tried to remove it. So I called the company to ask them to leave the receipt IN the mailbox. They said they couldn't do that, legally. So I gave them my permission to open my mailbox, or at least do it when the weather is bad. Now they just don't leave a receipt at all, which I do not like. So I guess I have to call back and re-iterate my instructions. But all in all, they do what they say, and the price is fair. Like I said, I don't have a lot of experience here with which to compare them. And they do have an online portal where you can see all of your account activity, which is nice.

Called for service-they want to charge $1000 to my credit card since I do no have a service contract. I have no problem paying for services, but $1000just to get someone here to look at a furnace??

It went really. They were polite, professional. They are dependable and do a great job.

i currently use standard for my fuel oil although in the past i had a service contract with them; i have no prob with standard, they are slightly higher priced than some other oil companies who just do oil.

I've waited six months to review this to be sure everything withstood the test of time. So far it has. This was an excellent experience. We had been using Santa Fuel for several years. Their service was very good, but their oil prices always seemed higher than everyones else's. When Hurricane Sandy knocked out our electricity for a week, it exposed the flaws of our leaky and rusted old boiler. (The boiler's gaskets had shrunk when cold, resulting in water flooding our basement.) I got proposals from Santa, Standard Oil and a couple of others. The Standard price was at least $1,500 less than a comparable boiler from Santa, and they threw in some sweeteners, like two free years of service, and a discounted oil price. So I switched everything--oil, boiler installation, and service--to Standard. Their regular oil prices are also considerably lower than Santa's. I have no regrets. The installation was prompt, professional and completed within one day, causing only brief disruption of boiler use. They did a great job and were pleasant to deal with. They were obviously very experienced at doing this, and the boiler has worked beautifully and efficiently. The manufacturer (Smith) gives you a 20-year warranty on parts and Standard Oil matches it with a warranty on labor if parts have to be replaced. This is almost unheard of and very comforting. Hadn't heard much about Smith boilers before this, so I did a lot of online research and they are very highly regarded in New England by several sources. Would definitely recommend including Standard OIl when getting bids on a new boiler. But always get more than one proposal, just to educate yourself and compare the differences between companies.

They are good. I have used them for years. If you call they are there quickly.

Their service is good. They come when they are called and do what they say they are going to do. They will come in the middle of the night if we need them to.

Professional, competitive rates and along track record of performance were the deciding factors when we chose Standard for our new homes oil supplier. Six months into our relationship and they have been impressive in their billing, service (refills) and customer service availability. - Only a "B" in price because their pricing is competitive but not exceptional. I chose them more so based on service reputation... so far, I have ZERO regrets.

It is an excellent service. They are available at all times. We never run out of oil. When we had to get a new oil burner, they guy got a good quality and simply oil burner. We did appreciate this because it can be easily fixed because you don't need a specialist to fix it.

Sometimes when they come to fix something if they cannot see the issue right away it may take a few visits for them to fix what is needed. I have to call them back from the previous visit. There have been times when they have fixed it on the first visit but that does not happen on every visit. They are good when it is general maintenance.

I have had some difficulties as it is difficult in the spring to schedule a cleaning. The service has been good and the service people that they send have always been helpful and knowledgeable. The majority of the service people have been in the business for a long time.

I was concerned that a large company like Standard might not provide the service and responsiveness of one of the smaller, local poviders in my community. However, Standard has been very responsive over the years in responding to emergency situations and I have found their annual maintenance plan to be a good value. They also offer various plans to reduce/manage your home heating costs that are accessible online--and they might even offer you a discount on a locked rate plan if you also buy the maintenance plan and call to ask them for their best available rate.

Nothing to report. Oil was delivered and when there was a problem with the oil burner it was handled professionally and promptly.

We have not set a date yet, but we have not find anything, but we will soon. I just wanted to wait a little while and get estimates from other people. So far, everything has been good with them. I called them, they came, they gave us an estimate. It was cost that was holding it up and I just called them back and they come in right away for an appointment. I have had nothing bad yet with them. They came right away and they were right on time. They were very professional.

They were fine, but their prices are not. I have used them two years ago but I have switched because of the price.
